You Decide: Should Tony Eury Jr. Stay or Go?
Would You Fire Tony Eury Jr.?
Everyone’s talking about it.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. is talking about it.
Rick Hendrick is talking about it.
Tony Eury Jr. is talking about it.
Race fans everywhere are talking about it.
Should Tony Eury Jr. be fired as Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s crew chief?
Team owner Rick Hendrick made it clear this week that Tony Eury Jr. has the full faith and confidence of Hendrick Motorsports.
Rick Hendrick says:
“What I want to say is that I am 100% behind this group. I have no intentions of making any changes,” said Rick Hendrick.
“I’m very happy with the relationship with Dale and Tony.”
In fact, Mr. Hendrick seemed to lay more blame at the feet of Dale Earnhardt Jr. than Tony Eury Jr.
“Dale has step up to the plate,” Hendrick said. “Tony is willing to do whatever he needs to do. We can get it fixed.”
Dale Earnhardt Jr. has both defended Tony Jr. and said he would like to have his original crew chief back at the same time.
Junior says:
“There are days where I wish Tony Sr. was still around, said Dale Earnhardt Jr. about the crew chief who took him to 2 Busch series Championships and most of his Cup victories. Â ”But when they moved Tony Jr. in to the crew chief role it was what was supposed to happen with him.”
“Everybody knows how smart a guy he is. He is a good mechanic and a solid crew chief. I’ll take the fall. I would rather be crucified than him.”
“I feel like I am sending my brother to jail for a crime I committed, you know what I mean?”
So who would you fire? Would you even fire anybody? If Tony Jr. is out as Dale Jr.’s crew chief – then who is in?
Remember, Tony Eury Sr. has zero experience with the current race car.
Some people have suggested a crew chief like Ray Evernham, who is available. But, Evernham still has zero experience with this car.
Eury and Earnhardt made the Chase last year, and finished 12th in the Championship points. They won a race. They had 10 top fives, and 16 top tens. They only had 2 DNFs. What crew chief is available who has done a better job than Tony Eury Jr.?
Would you fire Eury?
So – would you fire Tony Eury Jr.?
If so, who would you hire in his place?

Jr has to make that decision and I am sure he will make the right one. He is a smart guy and I am behind him and his decision 100%.

I THINK JR IS A GOOD DRIVER HE NEEDS TO WORK HARDER AND GIVE TONY JR FEED BACK SO HE CAN FIX THE CAR SO HE CAN WIN JR. NEEDS TO KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT AND LISTEN TO TONY JR THAT WAY HE WILL GET BETTER AND START WINNING
[Reply]
Dale Jr needs to be fired. Jr.is holding back that team. He has lost something and just cannot get it back. Maybe he should retire.

You are obviously not a jr fan. Its easy to tell when a traitor is among us. Jr needs to decide what to do. Its his life and he wants to win more than anything. 2nd or 11th is not good enough for him. Eury may have to take a different role. Why not have both Eury’s in there…Behind Dales decision 100%

I am A JR Fan! I think it sucks with everything that has happened to him! starting with Step Monster – which he still has to deal with because she will always be part of his Family. I think Jr has too much going on right now and we don’t know the full story. I saw him in Daytona and He didn’t look like he was feeling to well. Fans were complaining because they wanted autographs. His time was limited – he had to go to drivers meeting. Obviously I don’t want to judge him or give him the wrong opinion. He has to live his life and sort things out for himself. Poor guy gets crucified no matter what he does. But NASCAR should just have an IROC Series since they want everyones car to be the same. I USED to like watching the Trucks. Now with the rule changes- they WRECKED that series to! Go ahead and waste your money watching caution clean-ups and wasted laps trying to get the positions correct! Glad I didn’t go to Bristol – you can always change the channel and watch UofM softball get beat!

The man is out of touch with reality. He may be popular but he can’t win the big prize. He tries too hard to be his dad. He will never be the driver his dad was. He is an average driver at best. I say send him packing and I stick to that. He doesn’t measure up to the other Hendrick drivers. He should have never left DEI. He wrecks more people these days than Michael Waltrip does. Open your eyes the man is in over his head.

no they should not fire dale jr! he is what nascar is all about. the fan and all. but he needs to be more agressive, and show them he is his dads son! maybe he doesn’t want to wreck his race car. there might be another reason why he doesn’t drive wild. leave him alone! hendrick will decide. go junebug! and show them what you can do! jr fan always…

There’s no doubt that Dale Sr. was the true essence of stock car racing, in my eyes he was one of the best and I miss him very much, but he’s gone and for anyone to be expected follow in Srs. footsteps including his own son would be impossible, he was truely a one of kind! Now Dale Jr. I am possibly his biggest fan I get mad when he gets wrecked and I get mad when he wrecks, but thats what the sport is all about. I can’t pretend to know what it takes to win a race or to know whats going on with Dale Jr. and Eury Jr. but I do think like Tony Stewert, all good things must end, It’s time for new blood. Thank for the memories Tony Eury hope life continues to treate you well.

Don,t even say that word. Dale Jr. is a great driver. If everone would just leave him alone and that goes for loud mouth, and arrogant Kyle Buch, then Jr. would do alot better. I hope Jr. kicks his butt.
[Reply]
There are no decisions to be made. Rick Hendrick has said he has no intention of firing or breaking up the two Juniors. This is how rumors got started in the first place. One person talks to the media with a comment that “maybe” the two should not be working together and before you know it, we have a rumor that has been distorted and people ready to be fired for the good job they are doing.
It’s not anyone’s decision as to what goes on in that garage except that of Rick himself, after all it is he that pays the salaries.
[Reply]
No do not fire Tony, Lets be real for a little bit, first Dale lost the only thing in his life that meant so much to him ,he most likely has not got over that and likely not ever so dont be so hard on him he is a great driver he has already prove that ,he will come arround soon and when he does the spot light will shine ever so bright and Rick Hendricks and the sponcers will benifit from all of that ..Just be patience focks concentrate on something else for a while and let this rest !!

Fire Dale or retire? You got to be NUTS! Do that and go ahead and close the tracks down.

So Dale, drive like I know you can. As for Tony, maybe a change is indeed in order.

Pray for Dale Jr we all need Gods help in all our lives,
[Reply]
No i would not change any thing.
Lets put the blame where it belongs on NASCAR until they let the teams make the changes they need to on these cars. NASCAR said they wanted to even out the playing field and they made it worse. It took very good drivers down to just average doors.
Case in point look at Joey Lagono very good in old car to just learning the COT car. Not the crew chiefs foult there.

NASCAR a Joke! Captain Jack and Intimidator probably rolling over in their Graves! I’m sick and tired of green/ white 1 lap shoot-outs and so-called races being called! Really enjoyed the Legends racing and would rather support and watch them! NASCAR is like the Government but not giving any bonuses! I totaly agree this is NASCARS FAULT!

I’ve been saying from day one that it was a mistake for Jr. to bring Eury Jr. with him to HMS. I listen to Jr.’s in-car audio every race. Jr. DOES give Eury good information. Tony Jr. just doesn’t have the ability to make the right changes or to “keep up with the track”. I can’t remember a time that he made Junior any better during a race and he’s sure made some real bad strategy calls.
Junior should have let Rick Hendrick build him a team from scratch. He’s proven himself to be pretty damn good at it.
[Reply]
There is too much hype here. there are how many teams that have not made the chase that are just as good .. I am a Dale And Tony fan .. but we all need to realize this is not bush series … and he is not Sr. he finishes the races and makes it home safe every week … I wish him luck in the future and i am behind them both ….
[Reply]
Neither should be fired…i think Nascar is to blame for all the problems that are going on in the series. They make the bottom line rules, and this COT was one of the biggest mistakes Nascar ever made. Seems to me that the only ones that have any advantage are the Toyotas. I think they need to go back to the Car of Yesterday and then we will see how well both Jr. and Tony do. But, if anybody is to make the decision, it should be Rick H. himself, and not Jr.
[Reply]
Mr. Hendrick knows what to do and has said what he feels is correct. Tony Jr. is doing a great job and is still learning about the new vehicle – it’s hard to get everything right in a few years. Dale Jr. is a good driver but at times needs to protect his equipment – he only needs to lead the “last” lap to finish first. Races are not won in the first or middle laps – he seems to be improving on this idea, as he does, Dale Jr. and Tony Jr. will work more as a team with a goal to finish races first or close to the lead. Mr. Hendrick knows how to meet and deal with many people including his race car drivers, crew chiefs, and, just about anybody. Yes, I am a Dale Jr. fan as I was with his father, Dale Sr. Th Eury’s helped both of these drivers win races and given time without fan abuse, the Jr’s will come out on top within 3 years. Go Dale and Tony Jr’s!!
[Reply]
I have been a fan of Jr for a long time and will remain one. It is my opinion that Jr is giving up. He appears to be complaining all the time and is not happy. I don’t think it would matter who is his crew chief. I really hope things change for him.

[Reply]
I really believe that Dale and Tony Jr. can be good together as long as Dale stays focused and relate back & forth with Tony what the car is or isn’t doing. Then, Tony needs to make the right adjustments. I want to say that Dale is giving all he’s got, but for some reason, I don’t really know where his head is as of the start of this season. I agree with Rick though, Dale does need to step it up! He is the driver!! I’m behind him 100%, and I know he has it in him to win….he just needs to get his head in the races and focus on each and every race!!
[Reply]
I think its like the article on nascar.com says: “The commitment from the guys on that team is there,” Hendrick said. “And I kind of want to draw a parallel between, let’s just take the 24 team [of Gordon] last year, and where they were, and everybody was saying, ‘Hey, you need to replace Stevie or you need to do something, because they are just not running.’ Last year at this time, the 88 was the best team we had on the complex, and they were the ones that were leading the charge. And then we kind of fell off toward about the Chase”. Yes Dale is having a rough start but I must admit some if not most of us get upset at him when he doesnt drive like we think he should, and when he DOES drive aggressively we dont like that either. Unfortunately we as fans can’t have it both ways, we either have to let him drive aggressive or let him continue to drive the way he has been. Neither of them need to go, they just need to get back in their groove.
[Reply]
Hmmm….Dale Jr. has to make that decision?? Um, NO. The driver doesn’t have decide who will be his crew chief, the owner does. Hendrick hired Eury, Jr. because he knew he would be good and, like Jr., Eury, Jr. was stupid enough to leave DEI. As you can see, it has NOT improved Jr.’s driving one bit.
Give Jr. a break cuz he lost his dad 8 years ago?? Come on!! NO he will never get over it, it’s been 13 years since my own father died and I’M not over it and never will be. But cut him a break?? If he needed a break, he would take time off.
NEITHER should be fired!! What would help Jr. the most is, to put it bluntly, shut up and drive. When he’s in the car, he blames everything on Eury, Jr., says he’s “saving their ass”, etc. Whatever changes Eury, Jr. wants to do, he argues about and the only changes that get made are the ones that Jr. says to make. Hendrick is right, Jr. needs to step up to the plate. IF Dale were still alive, etc., and Jr. was telling his crew chief how it was going to go and driving like he is, his butt would be back in Nationwide. He may not win championships, or he may…either way, he can do a heck of a lot better than he is.
[Reply]
I think that Rick Hendrick needs to remember he has 4 teams, not 2 teams that share everything with each other and then 2 other teams that are on their own. TEAM work, means ALL – not Jeff and Jimmie in one building sharing and JR and Mark in another.
[Reply]
I think the two Jr’s can work it out, I think it has to be a team effort all the way around not just the driver and crew cheif, I also think the media just makes such a big deal of it, and i’m sure they make a bigger deal about it because it involves the name Earnhardt.
[Reply]
I am a Jr fan. I am all for getting rid of Tony Jr. and I wanna see if Jr will step up. Tony never makes the car better ( that is his fault) Junior gets a attitude with him thats Jr’s fault. I wish Hendrick would just try another crew chief and team for 1 month and go from there,. we all will b satisfied!!!
[Reply]
I agree with Debbie c,get rid of the c.o.t.,they are God awfully ugly.Don’t worry folks the 88 car will come back.Just down on their luck right now,but they will be a contender before the year is over.
No-matter what,Dale Jr will always be my driver.
All he has to do is change his demenor a little to his Dad and he will kick Ass.
[Reply]
Jr needs to let go of the “family thing” being that tony is his best friend, as well as his cousin, he stated he loves to race with Tony, and have fun, I never saw T. Jr. on the track in a race car?????Have you??? wel-l-l-l, right there is a problem, No#1- On the track- tony is a PAID EMPLOYEE, HE IS NOT PAID TO BE A BUDDY OR A COUSIN ON THAT TRACK! his job ONLY is to maintain that 88 car and fine tune it to a tee to make it perform perfectly, THIS IS A JOB ONLY- PAID BY HENDRICK, HENDRICK GAVE HIM THE BEST EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS TO DO THE JOB, Tony is not doing the BEST JOB, if he claims this is his best, then he needs to move on, and I bet if he misses a years worth of paychecks, you’d see his performance improves!
Jr.? Right now I think Jr is trying to compensate for the both of them and all the mistakes, fuel milage mistakes, Jr’s fault?
staying out when he should come in, both their faults, Jr comes in to have adjustment 3 – times in a row in one instance for the same thing, in one race, the car was never adjusted! Jr’s fault????? and it goes on and on, Jr over the line by a hair- lap down – that was being too technical by the official wanna be. Probably his first day at it. Jr going too fast on the pits, HE knows better…..sometimes … trying too hard can get you WORSE results.
yes, I would like to see jr. with a different crew chief for a trial period, half the races, let’s see then what happens.
Junior needs to let go of the buddy- family -cousin, fun thing, too much dependency like this can ruin it for your job. He needs some one who wil be straight forward and tell him like it is, and Junior needs to listen, Junior also needs to get his points across as to what is wrong and a good mehanic needs to fix things correctly and maintain that car to perfection, the communcation stinks between the two, what’s happenig now is, Jr is telling Eury what the car is doing and eury is just saying ok we’ll take care of it and he fixes it the way he wants it or not at all- and tells Jr., (that’s family…..) ok, it’s adjusted…just to shut him up, NOT GOOD!!….
The guy needs to have the car adjusted according to what the driver is telling him the car is doing, the crew chief needs to know just what would remedy that and adjust it correctly!!!!
[Reply]
i need a job
[Reply]
No do not fire Tony, jr., just let Dale Jr know he is the driver and Tony is the crew chief and he is calling the shots, the reason he did so well with Tony Sr, was that he listened to him and he was the boss and that is the way it has to be, you cannot wear all the hats in the racing of today, besides, Tony Sr would have chewed him a NEW BOTTOM to set on, had he not listened…Iam a DIE HARD Earnhardt fan, also one of his dads fans, he just needs to listen sometime
[Reply]
As I watch each I become more and more dissapointed in JR’s lack of a feeling that he needs to win!! This is SPRINT CUP RACING. The big time. cinch up on the buckle JR and get down to biz. I’m a huge JR. fan, and want to see you win. WE ALL know you can do it. JUST DO IT !!!Please dump the F-ING me attitude and get down to the biz of racing. But Man get to it… No more excuses just shut up and race. How about a top 3 at Martinsville ???

I love Dale Jr,and don’t really know that much about Tony Jr, except for the fact that he needs to tell Jr to shut the hell up when he is whinning but that’s usually because Tony Jr doesn’t encourage him or coach him on like he should. For example like Chad does Jimmy. I listen to them on racedays and it’s usually pretty quite except for when Jr ask a question or is pissed because like he has stated to Tony,” Am I talking to myself?” Jr is a Carolina boy and being from Carolina myself, you want us to win, piss us off, challenge us and with a little encouragement we can be unbeatable! Also when I listen to them on raceday I have heard Jr say so many times,” tell me when the rain is coming, or tell me how many laps there’s left. Tony Jr just seems to be just there, Not saying much at all. Hello…. can we get a response without Jr having to ask for one. I say there’s not much enthusiasm or spirit to push Jr. Jr needs to be told to shut up and encouraged at the same time. With that said I to am so tired of the way racing has changed. I have yet to see a good race this year besides Daytona and it was ok. Racing just isn’t racing anymore. It seems like every time there is a piece of paper or a minor spin out causes a 2 lap or so finish, but prior to that hell 14 cars can wreck and the cars are right back at it after a couple of laps. The last 20 last or so is the best part of the race to me, not 1 or two laps, hell change the channel!
[Reply]
I would not fire either one. I am not sure what I would do, but to go firing someone to make others happy would be insane.
I believe both Dale and Tony are old school. Maybe the new car is safer and stronger but it sure has turned exciting races into boring events. Anyone could have a good day in the old car. It is only a few that can say that in the new car. I hate sounding like a broken record, but the new cars sucks and we as fans and they as drivers and crews were/are forced to accept it. All these safety improvements could have been placed in the old car.
[Reply]
Hate to say this, but I feel Jr. need another crew chief soon, because Jr. can win more races with the right crew chief. I feel sorry for Tony but sometime you got to make a change and it always start with the crew chief and then go from there.
[Reply]
I read that Rick Hendrick hired an extra engineer for Gordon’s team when he was having problems last year and just look how he has improved. Maybe he should do the same for the Jrs and the 88 team. I believe it’s the COT and the problems of having to keep making changes to get the right set up. Even when the car is good in practice it seems to go away during the race. Even a small temperature change seems to throw it off. I know Dale Jr can drive the car if he gets the right setup. Don’t fire anyone!!

EVERYBODY TALKS ABOUT WHAT A GREAT DRIVER JR IS. HE WAS UNKNOWN AND IN SPRINT CAR FOR 2 YEARS BEFORE HIS FATHER DIED. ALL OF A SUDDEN HE BECAME NASCAR’S POSTER CHILD. NOT BASED ON HIS DRIVING SKILLS. HE HAS RELATIVELY LITTLE. BUT BASED ON THE FACT HE WAS NOT CONFORMING TO THE ACTIONS OF THE REST OF THE DRIVERS. HE WAS BUCKING THE SYSTEM. 18 WINS IN 10 YEARS IS NOT STELLAR PERFORMANCE. TAKE A LOOK AT KURT BUSH AND JIMMIE JOHNSON AND JEFF GORDON. THEN YOU WILL SEE WHAT A GOOD DRIVER CAN DO. TONY IS PROBABLY BETTER AS A CREW CHIEF THAN DALE IS A DRIVER. DALE IS ALL HYPE AND NO SUBSTANCE.
[Reply]
Put Tony Sr on the box and in Dale Jrs. ear for awhile and continue with Eury Jr as crew chief making all the smart calls on the car, since Pops is not real familiar with the new car. If Pops is in both their ears, maybe if Eury Jr is so smart he can learn how to communicate in a more effective way with Dale Jr. I really think they will be the winning combination as there is chemistry and desire in both the Jrs.

Fred hit the nail on the head with the need for Tony Sr. and Tony Jr. working in tandem to get the best of both worlds. Tony Sr. has more common sense and knowledge of what works and which way to go with adjustments during the race. Tony Jr. is more of a nuts and bolts guy that can still be a great asset to the team with some guidance from Tony Sr. It worked before and it would work again. Jr. gets testy behind the wheel but who wouldn’t if ya take your car in for adjustment and the crew chief makes it worse!! Jr. is a great driver if the car is driveable in the turns. I listen to him all the time on the scanner. It’s a broken record that needs mending NOW!!!!
[Reply]
Dale Jr. needs to drive and learn to tell Tony Jr. what the car is doing. Also Rick Hendreck needs to tell both of them you got three races to do something or I will? No firing just a young engineer sitting on the box with Tony Jr.
[Reply]
Dale Jr. needs to get his head on straight and start driving, there is no waY he could consistently be getting bad setups, it just don’t happen that often, he has become lazy and complacent with his driving, YES I AM A DALE JR. FAN BUT HE NEEDS TO GET HIS ACT TOGETHER AND NOT BLAME EVERYONE ELSE……..HIS DADDY WOULD KICK HIS BUTT AND TELL HIM TO GET ON WITH IT OR GET OUT. THIS ONE RESTS ON JUNIORS SHOULDER,,,,,,,,,,,,,START DRIVING!!!!

You are dead wrong…he IS getting bad setups from his team. Listen to his scanner!!! If you can’t get through the corners as fast as everyone else because the car is headed for the wall because of a push condition…you are gonna crash or lift off the throttle. It’s that simple. Given the exact same race car..Jr. is just as good or better than the top drivers out there.

bad set-ups from the team??? what does that even mean??? lol all i can say is that ,the team as a whole needs to manage its car&tire data a whole lot better, and develope a simple and clear communication between driver and crew…it takes two ya know
[Reply]
No one needs to be fired… maybe they are both just too close to the situation. They’re more like brothers, reacting to what the other one does rather than working together as a team unit. A simple fact of being family! I’m sure Mr “H” sees this, he is the King of making situations like this work. He will be the middle man to help them find a way to resolve this. They have to be able to come to a conclusion on their own. No amount of public outcry is going to force this down their throats. Yes, they are having communication issues… rather than fire one or the other, find a way to resolve them.
[Reply]
I think that maybe everyone is notlooking at everyone involved in this team. Maybe his spotter has something to do with it too. I was at the race in Bristol and Dale Jr. was having a hard time getting his spotter to talk to him and keep him up with what was going on. It seemed like the second half of the race the whole team stopped talking to Jr. and giving him feedback on what was around him. It takes everybody on that team to give it everything they have and work together to BE A TEAM!
[Reply]
Don’t fire anyone!!! Hendrick is a smart man, He will get the problem solved. Race fans & media just back off. I hope he will DEMAND a closer sharing of info amoung his 4 crew chiefs and 4 drivers. They all are paid by Hendrick and should share everything with the company so they can ALL become more frequent winners.

Hey – do you remember when Mikey and Jr swaped pit crews at DEI? Jr has to be willing and commited to accept the change or it will not work. I really believe his LUCK has to change as he cannot control everything and everyone. Can’t be perfect all the time.

Harold Maddox Sr touched on a good point earlier… when your Daddy is Dale Sr., your gonna want to prove to him you can ger er’ done! Your gonna try to do it every lap you run! That kind of motivation is pretty powerful stuff. (Taking that away, can really put a chink in the armor) Maybe Mr Hendrick can help him find that again!
We (all of his fans) know he’s got what it takes… he’ll find that fire in his belly again.
The NASCAR world seem so quick to jump on Dale Jr., give the guy a break!

I, personally, feel very sorry for both Jrs! However, you might want to check into Dale Jr’s personal life. Unlike other drivers, people seem to be more interested in Dale Jrs. lifestyle. They say he is married but keeping it a secret, etc…….you can say who cares! For whatever reason, this could be playing a role in Dale Jrs head. I say: NEXT YEAR JR. WILL WIN RACES – IT WILL BE HIS HAPPIEST YEAR! Just give the boy a chance and see what he does in 2010. Thank you for letting me post this.

THE THING IS NOT FIRING TONI, JR BUT HE NEEDS TO GET A GRIP ON THINGS. NUMBER 1—-HE MAKES LAST MINUTE DECISIONS—WHY I SAY THIS,IS BECAUSE WHEN I HEARD HIM ON THE DTV LISTEN TO THE DRIVERS ETC CONVERSATIONS, JR WANTED TO COME IN THE PITS, I FORGET THE REASON, BUT I BELIEVE IT WAS TIRES AND TONI SAID NO, IT COST JR A LAP AND THE RACE. JR TOLD HIM THAT IF HE NEEDED TO MAKE THE DECISIONS HE DIDN’T NEED HIM, EXACTLY—I THINK MR HENDRICKS NEEDS TO LISTEN TO THEIR CONVERSATIONS ON THE TRACK, I BELIEVE HE WOULD AGREE WITH ME THAT TONI IS THE PROBLEM AND HE NEEDS TO TALK TO JR AND TONI. YOU CANNOT MAKE LATE DECISIONS TO PIT AND THIS IS THEIR PROBLEM. TONI, I FEEL, HAS A BIG HEAD AND HE NEEDS TO COME BACK TO EARTH. TONI, JR NEEDS TO TALK TO CHAD KNAUS, I DON’T CARE WHAT ANYBODY SAYS HE IS THE TOP CREW CHEIF AND IF I HAD A CAR HE’S MY MAN, GO JIMMIE. I LOVE JR BUT HE NEEDS TO REALIZE THAT IF HE WANTS TONI TO BE HIS CREW CHIEF, HE NEEDS TO GET MORE CO-OPERATION ON PITS FROM HIM. JR SHOULDN’T HAVE TO MAKE ANOTHER LAP WHEN HE HAS A PROBLEM, BRING HIM IN, GET IT STRAIGHTENED OUT, AND OUT OF PIT ROAD. I’M SORRY JR BUT YOU ARE NOT THE PROBLEM,OR AT LEAST NOT ALL OF IT—JR LISTEN TO YOUR CONVERSATIONS WITH HIM DURING THE RACE, HE LETS YOU GO UNTIL THERE IS NO, YES, NO RETURN. TONI BRING YOURSELF OUT OF THE CLOUDS AND INTO REALITY, LIKE RICK FLAIR SAYS IF YOU WANT TO BE THE MAN YOU HAVE TO STEP UP, I DIDN’T WANT TO USE BEAT THE MAN BUT THAT’S WHAT IT IS EVEN IN RACING “IF YOU WANT TO BE THE MAN—-YOU GOT TO BEAT THE MAN” SO EURY,JR WISE UP AND TALK TO YOUR DRIVER AND GET HIM IN THE PITS BEFORE OR WHEN HE TELLS YOU HE HAS A PROBLEM. YOU ARE NOT DRIVING THE CAR SO YOU CAN’T REALLY TELL. TALK TO CHAD AND TRY SOME OF HIS SUGGESTIONS, DON’T TRY TO ACT LIKE YOU KNOW IT ALL. Granny 67

Leave Tony Jr. in there at the moment and let him and Dale Jr. work things out they will get it together soon ..There is to much being said on here and the media and all if they would leave Dale Jr. and Tony Jr. and team alone and let them race they would be good to go to much being said I don’t think is helping ..They just need more communication about what is wrong with the car and what he is feeling in the car and how it is reacting and then Tony Jr. could fix what ails a poor handling race car ..So I have ver bit of confidence in the both of them so Go Jr. Go !!!!!

I have to say I was not happy to read this article. I am so tried of reading that Tony Jr needs to be fired. Where does everyone have the right to judge the job they are doing? Has any of you ever raced a race car, stood on a pit box, worked in the pits or stood on the roof to keep your driver safe? No. So how can we judge what kind of job they are doing. Sure we all wish that Dale Jr was higher in the points. I am sure the team would like that as well. They have worked hard this year and have learned alot about the car each week and continue to learn. This is only the second year with the COT car. If you look at the field there is a different group of drivers in the front of the field then was there last year. There is alot to seting up these cars. Some have it figured out and some do not. Some had it figure out and no longer do. I have faith in Tony Jr and the whole 88 crew and soon we will see them in the front of the field and we will see Dale Jr in victory lane. We all just need to have faith and believe and it will happen. I just wish all this talk would stop, I am sure the stress and all the negative talk is taking a toll on the team. Has anyone thought about that? I am sure not.

I love DALE JR. but he has almost everything with racing but, a championship. I would hate to see Tony and JR. split but if things aren’t happening then you have to try something else!
[Reply]
GET RID OF dALE JR.THEN MAYBE HENDRICK COULD WIN SOME.wHEN ALL JR. WANTS TO DO IS WRECK OTHER DRIVERS AND TRY TO KILL THEM,IT’S TIME FOR HIM TO GO.macys THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE IS BETTER THAN NASCAR IS NOW.
[Reply]
no they should not fire tony jr. dale jr needs to get on the wheel more and people should get of his back he’s dammed if he does and he’s dammed if he doesn’t……least we forget his pit crew has made some BIG mistakes…….that should be reviewed and some changes made……..

WELL THE WAY I SEE IT. DALE JR WILL NEVER BE WHAT IS FATHER WAS AS HE WILL NOT WRECH EVERY BODY TO WIN. DALE SR WOULD NOT OF BEEN WHAT HE WAS IF NASCAR WOULD OF PUT A STOP TO THE WAY HE DROVE. HE WOULD WRECK YOU TO WIN NOW NASCAR SEEMS TO PUT A STOP TO IT. IF HE WOULD OF RACED LIKE THE KING OF NASCAR ALOT MORE CLEAN HE WOULD OF JUST BEEN ANOTHER RACE CAR DRIVER.IF YOU WAS AHEAD OF HIM HE WOULD PUT YA IN THE WALL SO HE COULD WIN (AS HE SAID RATTLE YOUR CAGE)NO IT WAS LIKE WRECK YOU. IF I HAD A 1/4 OF THE MONEY HE WRECK IN CARS FOR SOME ONE ELES I WOULD NEVER HAVE TO WORK AGAIN. WELL DALE JR IS ALOT MORE FAR IF NASCAR WOULD LET HIM WRECK EVERY BODY HE WOULD WIN. DALE JR IS A RACE CAR DRIVER HE RACES IF HE WINS HE WINS IF DONT HE DONT THERE IS ALOT OF PEOPLE THAT DONT WIN HE IS ONE OF THEM. PEOPLE SEEM TO THINK HE SHOULD WIN ALL THE TIME AS HE IS DALE JR HE IS JUST LIKE THE REST OF THE OTHER DRIVERS. HE PUTS HIS PANTS SOCKS AND SHIRT ON LIKE ALL THE REST OF US.THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER KING OF NASCAR AS HE IS RETIRED AND OWNS PETTY MOTORSPORTS. SO LETS RACE ON SUNDAY AND LET IT BE NO ONE NEEDS TO BE FIRED.ITS THE WAY IT IS. IT IS NASCAR ITS NOT JR’S JR’S NASCAR. IF HE WINS GREAT IF HE DON’T IT WAS A RACE WE LIKED IT. JUST ENJOY. YA ALL HAVE GOOD NOW YA HERE. P.S. IF YA CANT DRIVE THE COT CAR THERE ARE MONSTER TRUCKS DIRT RACING ROLLER SKATING OR JUST SETTING IN THE GRAND STAND AND ENJOY LATER

dale jr. will make the right decision so all u dale jr. haters lay off the guy is doing a great job considering the crap his been thru
[Reply]
Maybe if Jr. would start to work w/Tony Jr. as a team, and maybe if they would work together for the glory of God instead of for the glory of themselves, then maybe they’d start to win some races!

I think the reason Rick Hendrick is behind tony jr. is that he as well as some fans and the commentators have said dale doesnt tell him as soon as he relizes problems and there are times he doesnt agree with tony and gets his way then when it goes south dale gets mad. He is an average driver and should listen
maybe he should just go to nationwide as owner he seems to do ok there.

Everyone always lays blame on everyone except Dale Jr… I have nothing but love for the dude, but he needs to have more confidence in himself. I’ve seen so many interviews last year where he just sounded like he was givin’ up & givin’ in to failure. He is one hell of a driver. But, I’ve been seeing to many races where he is not driving up to his abilities. I don’t have to know Dale jr. well at all to know he can have a short attention span in he is not interested in what you are saying or what he is doing at that particular time. That’s a typical guy, people. I have a brother, I hung out with more males & did their thing verse going to “Brownies” or “Girl Scouts”. So, I am the same way as Dale Jr… I guess. I don’t need to know him. All I know to be true about him is he wants to be loyal to his family legacy, he doesn’t want to be in his father’s shadow (he’s not his dad), but… Jr… if you’re reading this, you’ve got the talent/skill/drive to be great. I’ve seen it. I think sometimes you can be too laid back, not so aggressive. Once in a while I’ve seen & hear your aggesstion, I like it. But, I know there is a time & place. It’s alright to show it more, people won’t think less of you. Earnhardt Sr… was a stand up guy who said what was on his mind. Junior… are you gonna let people say whatever they want about you,(if if you can’t stop it) are you gonna keep on playin’ right into their egos… And, I’m not talkin’ about just fans. Sometimes you’re to close to the action to see it.

give dale jr. the same chance that j.j. and that little boy that tries to drive that 24 car your dreaming there is other factors here look at the performance of the 88 week after week it just is not there tony jr. see ya are you sure he is not working for j.j. it sure seems that way to me

He need to go!!
[Reply]
I don’t think the problem can be blamed on one or the other entirely. I think Dale and Hendrick need to look at his pit crew though. How many times have they left wheels loose so Dale had to go back in the pits and every time he does he loses track position. His pit crew needs to step up or be replaced. I tend to agree with the fan who said Hendrick needs to remember that he has four teams not just two (or one). Last year Hendrick seemed to be there more for Dale and gave him more support. That seems to be missing this year. Also, last year he had Darion Grubb. Where is he this year??? With Tony Stewart and Tony is doing really good. Was that a good decision on Hendricks part to let him go over there? Regardless, I have always been and will always be behind Dale all the way. Go Dale!

Well it’s been 2-3 weeks since you asked the question and now I feel different about Tony Jr.
The PIT CREW has alot to do with Dale Jr.not bein able to win. Last week the lug nuts were not tight, so Dale Jr. had to come back to pit road, then again in Texas. Before getting rid of Tony Eury Jr. I would get rid of the pit crew. Seems like they don’t listen to Tony Jr. and they do what they want to. And the same way with Jeff Gordon crew chief and pit crew. Maybe Rick Hendericks needs to step up and give the pit crews a shake down and tell them there are other pit crews guys out there who would like a job. Kinda funny Jimmy Johnson is wining even if Chad and rest the crew get caught cheating, like 3-4 years ago.
[Reply]
One of the 1st things that needs to be done is when Jr. is coming down pit road week after weel we miss the pit box put the DAM sign up higher or stand up on the wall and get it out there so the man can see the thing! PLEASE, or get a longer pole!
[Reply]
Put the PIT SIGN UP HIGHER????? Heck, what do you want, bells and whistles too???? That’s twice, TWICE, Jr. has missed his own pit this year. Too much partying the night before will do that for you. It’s not like the spotter isn’t telling him to go around the #?? car, leave room for this car, etc. There is no excuse for missing your pit unless you get knocked passed it. Funny thing…..not ONE word about it on This Week In NASCAR…….and on Saturday, in the Nationwide, I guess that was Eury,Jr.’s fault, too, huh?? I think NASCAR needs to start giving Jr. an ABC test before they let him on the track to race. Now I see why Teresa said he needed to decide if wanted to be a “personality” or a driver. He’s much better a driver than what we’ve been seeing and you can’t blame anybody but him for not being that driver. Then again…..don’t blame him at all, but quit throwing blame at everybody else. He is JUST a driver. But, a driver who had better decide if he wants to go to races to race or party.
[Reply]
Maybe if they use a Whiskey River sign on pit row, Jr. will see it.
