Why Was Jeremy Mayfield Suspended?

NASCAR Needs To Drop the Secrecy Around Mayfield

It’s time for NASCAR to stop hiding behind privacy laws and confidential information – and tell race fans and drivers exactly why Jeremy Mayfield was banned from the sport.

If anyone thinks that the reason NASCAR won’t say is because of some health privacy law then I’ve got some oceanfront property in Iowa I’d like to sell you.

It would take a second-rate lawyer 2 seconds to write a clause into a NASCAR entry blank that says NASCAR has the right to publicly disclose the results of any driver’s drug test.

NASCAR doesn’t have any second-rate lawyers.

If NASCAR wanted to say what the reason was all they have to do is speak up.

The same goes for Jeremy Mayfield. Why won’t he say why he has been banned from NASCAR?

The other drivers have a right to know.

Was Mayfield taking illicit and illegal substances?

Or did he simply take too many aspirin along with an allergy medication?

There is a big difference.

Is the banned substance Mayfield was caught with a major sponsor of NASCAR – and is NASCAR simply trying to avoid embarrassing that sponsor?

Has NASCAR pressured Mayfield not to reveal any information?

It’s time for everyone to come clean. Both NASCAR and Jeremy Mayfield.

The fans have a right to know – but, more importantly – so do the other drivers.

  6. Why do fans need to know?

Why do some people insist on spinning stories like “is it a major sponsor?” What difference, exactly, would that make? There are alcohol sponsors, and alcoholism runs rampant, but its the individual who should be embarrassed, not the manufacturer of alcoholic products.

Shouldn’t the real blame be directed at the individual abuser rather than an alcohol or pharmaceutical manufacturer?

  8. Jeremy has already said he took a prescription medication and over the counter allery medications. I think this has gotten blown out of context. If you follow Nascar daily everyone would already know this. Hope this clears up the air on this subject.

  10. nascar needs to get a life. if you condemn someone, lets hear the facts, nascar will probally come out with mud or there face again.let it be cut and dry and have all the facts before you tell anyone. wake up

  12. Yes, I remembered reading about Jeremy admitted that he took prescription medication and over the counter allergy medicine. I feel the fans don’t need to know what happen when a driver get caught, but I feel the other drivers should know so that they won’t do the same thing. Somehow I think some of the drug test need to get better and be more specific.

  14. he should have the right to appeal, ask oj or casious clay, or robert blake. if mayfield is right, i hope he sues for a bundle. put nascar fans on the jury.

If Jeremy or his representative wants to defend his honor, than let him do so.

Why always pick on NASCAR? Did you stop to think that banning Jeremy from the sport he loved was humiliation enough for Jeremy and NASCAR does not want to hurt his friends and family anymore than necessary?

Are you all really losing sleep over why he was suspended? Get a real life. Leave it as it is and find something better to do with your life!

  18. I like Jeremy and I think NASCAR should give more information to the public. At least let the other drivers know. Or, maybe they do know and are not talking. I’m hoping that it is not as bad as NASCAR has implied. The implication can only cause many rumors.

  20. I am really finding it hard to believe that someone, like Jeremy, who wanted to race so badly would take something illegal. I could be wrong, I usually see the good in people before the bad, but it doesn’t make sense for me that he would take something banned when he has so much at stake. I wish him well. I’m sure it will all be ironed out.

  24. I agree that NASCAR should let the cat out of the bag. I don’t think Jeremy is an illegal drug user and if he is shame on him. But like I said I don’t believe he is a user, I think NASCAR is afraid that they F’ed up and can’t live up to admitting it. Maybe there should be a thing called fans against NASCAR officials looking to destroy lives of their drivers. I hope the best for Jeremy and his team because I truly think this is unjust to them.

  26. If you knew that you could get drug tested at anytime wouldn’t you be real careful about mixing non prescription with over the counter drugs. You would think he would want to know what effect one might have on the other. After all his career is on the line with every drug that goes into his body..I’m not sure I’m buying all this…

  28. As a retired Law Enforcement Officer, and a long time NASCAR FAN, I feel all the drivers know what they cannot ingest by NASCAR rules. As far as the public goes, we also know their are rules we cannot infringe on when we drive.
Yes it would be nice to know the dirt on any driver, but get a grip. We can go on from here, but think about Mayfield’s future is in the story. What would it be if it were us?

  32. Jeremy stated he took an over the counter drug and a prescription drug together. His doctor is talking to Nascar and trying to straighten it out. When one of his crew members tested poitive he was fired on the spot. I hope things get straightened out and he gets back soon.

  34. My guess they would not (Na$car) pick on any big names. That would be to costly. Just get the ones with limited funds.

  38. I sincerely wish that the NASCAR officals would let the “light of day” shine on the Jeremy Mayfield tragedy. I agree that the other drivers need to be informed about the real details of the drug test. It is amazing to me that Jeremy would mess up when he has sunk so much money in his own racing team, let alone fire his previous driver because of drug issues. He is much too smart to put it all on the line as has been indicated. I would like just a small “crumb” of knowledge from the NASCAR officals, or is it possible with a legal suit pending?

After testing positive on a urine drug screen a hair follicle drug test was administered. A hair follicle drug screen is a forensic toxicology that identifies if a person has ingested drugs in the past 5 to 90 days. Hair follicle testing is far greater than a urine test, which typically detects drug and alcohol use for about a week. The hair follicle drug screen returned positive for methamphetamine. End of story. If it is possible to mix over the counter medications to come up positive for meth then I surely would like to know which otc medications they are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tell me what you're thinking...
