I became a NASCAR fan because of Dale Earnhardt Jr. After seeing his interview (that was shown on 6o minutes) at Daytona in the turn where his father was killed, I was so impressed with his manner that I started reading everything I could find about him, his life, family and racing. Began watching the races and have become a fan of the Cup, Nationwide and Truck series. I’ll always be his fan because of who he is. Outstanding young man.

I am a nascar fan because i enjoy speed, and love to work on cars. i have been watching earnhardt family race since 1995 and have enjoyed every min. of raceing. and i am a collector of nascar and number 3, 88,they are my drivers and always will be. ive been to lasvegas race 3 times. and have a dream to once go to daytona race in my life time, hopefully that day will come true for me.
[Reply]
I became a real NASCAR fan the day Dale Earnhardt Sr wrecked and died at Daytona. My husband became so upset and I felt so badly for Sr’s family that I almost instantly became a Dale Jr fan. I have been loyal to Jr since then and my husband shares that sense of continued legacy in the Earnhardt family. We also enjoy hearing about the rest of the family and are happy that Kerry’s son is looking to be a future star in the sport. Now it’s time for Jr to have a family and make some little No 88′s!
[Reply]
Dale Sr caught my interest and then Dale Jr without either one Nascar would not be the same. When Jr starts to win the fans will flock back despite the economy.
[Reply]
I started watching it about 6 or 7 years ago when I decided my husband would not leave the TV while racing was on, so I figured I might as well start watching it, too. Well, I did, and now I’m more a fanatic than he is! I fell in love with Jeff first, later my #2 became Jimmie, although I like many of the drivers. There are certain ones I do not care for at all, but I love the sport and enjoy the excitement. I have cabinets full of Jeff collector items and some of Jimmie. Every birthday, Christmas, whatever occasion, EVERYBODY gives me Jeff & Jimmie items. I love NASCAR forever. That’s the most important thing on TV for me!!!

I have been going to races since I was a little boy around 50 years. Seen Rusty Wallace and Mark Martin run ASA when they were younger in Indiana at tracks like Salem and Indianapolis Raceway Park and Winchester, ect.
I love Nascar and travel around to tracks all over the southeast. I live in the Charlotte area now. I am waiting on the Hall of Fame.

I started following NASCAR back in the early 60′s when there was the likes of Richard Petty, Fred Lorenzen, Fireball Roberts. I love cars, I love car racing. I grew up in Nashville, TN and was at the Fairgrounds Speedway every Saturday there was a race. I saw Bobby & Donnie Allison when they started, Red Farmer and saw the start of the career of Darrell Waltrip. People like Coo Coo Marlin were my favorites to dislike with his famous 711. It has alway been an adrenaline rush just to hear those cars start up. I get annoyed with the racing of today, it’s not really racing as I grew up. They are cookie cutter cars, it’s not a ford or chevy or dodge, they are the same with ford or chevy or dodge sheet metal. But I still get the same rush when I hear them fire up those motors.

I became a fan of nascar, because one Sunday afternoon I came in from work and I had a housefull of people there. They started telling me about it and really enjoyed listing and watching it.But what really got me to liking nascar, even more was when my son and daughter-in- law took me with them to Altanta Speedway. Was a true fan then and still am.Love to watch them race, guess my favorite driver is Dale Jr.I like to see good hard racing.A true fan now and will be one always.

Our son used to race offroad vehicles & my husband worked in the pits & always watched Nascar races on TV & loved watching the Earnhardts race. I am a huge Dale Jr fan & will always be so as long as he is involved with Nascar I will always watch.

I am 48 years old and have been a fan for 42 years, mostly because my dad and grandfather were fans.We used to listen to the races on the radio every Sunday after lunch, mostly on Grandpa’s carport.I used to ride my go cart and pretend to be Richard Petty. When i was in 1st grade kids would ask..”What do you wanna’ be when you grow up”? I always said,”A race car driver”! I finally got my wish when i drove a Ex Cup car 10 laps at 160 mph at Kansas Motor Speedway while on a trip out West.

I saw Dale, Sr. die and fell in love
with Dale, Jr. He is above all my favorite but I am also hope Mark Martin ends up a winner. He is so humble and obviously a great American.
I love the races an yes I’m in my late
70′s so racing is just not for the young.
[Reply]
I have been a fan since the early 70′s. Back when the only way I could find out about the races was to read The Dallas Morning News on monday. I would read everything I could about the drivers, The Petty’s, Buddy Baker, The Alabama Gang, I liked them all. That was when racing was racing.
[Reply]
Yes I’m a big race fan of Nascar, Loved Dale Sr. now it’s Jr. was gonna race stock when I was younger, even started to build my own race car. I love fast cars and the rush. Thank You Nascar..

I was introduced to speed,120-mph or better at an early age. I AM 61 years old and grew up in the mid-west state of Nevada.
At that time there was no speed limits in Nevada unless otherwise posted, and my Father would not own a vehicle that would not do 120-mph+.my dad taught me to drive at a very early age on the dry lake beds in Nevada. Being from such a rural area I got my permit-license at 14. At that time I had been helping my dad build ‘Hot Rods’ And the need for speed grabbed me.I lived on the edge of the Bonneville Saltflats for a couple of years, and the need was still there! Finally, the races started on tv and I was hooked on fast cars. Whether it be in a 1/4 mile run, or zooming up to Lake Tahoe,Virigina City, these are like road courses!
At present time I have a Tri-Power ’58′ Bonneville 2drht and trying to get it restored.
I guess that speed and the love of racing is in my blood.
Thank you for reading my reason.

I BECAME A NASCAR FAN BECAUSE OF DALE EARNDHART SR.— — HE MADE RACING VERY EXCITING— HE WAS A GOOD DRIVER AND HALF THE FANS LOVED HIM AND HALF BOO-D HIM—LIKE HE SAIS–” GET BOO D ON SUNDAY— AND GO TO THE BAK ON MONDAY”—WE MISS HIM AND HIS STYLE OF RACING— BUT NOW WE FOLLOW DALE JR.. WHO IS JUST PLAIN NICE TO LOOK AT—

Back in the late 50′s my daddy took me to a race at Asheville-Weaverville Speedway, I was in high school. I have loved racing ever since. That old speedway is now home to North Buncombe High School. I remember that red clay dust flying in the air and getting all over the cars. My head would spin around watching those cars, I think if I recall, Junior Johnson was the most aggressive of all. But I still liked him. Earnhardt Sr was my favorite, and Jr. is now, Tony Stewart comes in next to Jr. Go Jr.
[Reply]
I used to be a real big fan of NASCAR now I’m a so so Fan There was a time when you could tell the makes of the car just by looking at them now you can only tell by the emblem on the front..Now all the cars are same, we have IROC cars every week..Then Toyota comes in thanks to Brian France so now its not an all American sport.. NASCAR lets Kyle Busch say what ever he wants because he drives a Toyota and if NASCAR pisses off Toyota they pull all there money out and Brian France will have to work for a living.. Sorry for venting but thats the way it is.. Good Day!

I was sitting with my dad one sunday afternooon while he was watching the race, I believe it was in 2006 late in the season. I asked him why he watched nascar and he said he didn’t but thought it had to do something with how my great grandpa used to race in the 50s, he raced in one of the daytona beach races, 1956 i think (I have a newspaper clip of it!). He said how Grandpa Ralph was good friends with Richard Petty and his family, and also how he raced agianst guys like fireall roberts.I of course that that was cool and still do.
Shortly after that my dad said he was going to quit watching nascar because he had better things to do. So I then started watching, I read more articles and driver Bios than anyone you know! I didn’t have a favorite driver right away so I decided that i would watch some races and see who i liked. I didn’t want to like the same driver as my dad. I watched a race and at the end they interview Dale Jr and I watched the interview. I liked how he took the interview and stuff so I decided he was my guy! Well come to find out he was my dads favorite driver too!
My dad origanaly pulled for Earnhardt Sr but after his wreck he began to pull for Junior.
I have been a Nascar/Dale jr fan for three years now and love it! I am deffinatley a nascar history buff, somi know who won races in the 70s and 80s as well as now.

My husband was a diehard Dale Sr fan and I never watched the races when he was racing, but got interested in the sport when the other sports on TV were not interesting anymore to me. So I watched Dale Jr race, and his growing to maturity and such a guy you can really call a good guy. So I follow Dale Jr and will follow him even when he is down. A true fan will be loyal through thick and thin. Now I’m sorry I didn’t start years ago to watch Sr. in his prime. Especially the years Jr. and Sr. raced together. That was special to both of them I’m sure.

i became a nascar fan when i married my wonderful husband 24 years ago and we both enjoy all the excitment ,we also love the dedication the drivers show to the sport and us fans also the way it is family friendly our two daughters are also nascar fans and so are there families it also a great source for family get togethers both our son in- laws were kind of shy when they were getting to know there future in-laws but i think nascar also helped in that area it was kind of like a common ground for them to get to know us and us to know them ….also great for christmas gift’s time always something new to add to there collections most of us are die hard dale earnhardt jr and dale earnhardt sr fans at least all but one and she really likes gordon but also loves dale sr and dale jr even our grand daughters whom say dale jr is a hot alert and cheer for him at every race

I grew up around cars, worked on them for years and Pianted them also.
While working in a body shop my boss had modified troyer car that ,Kenny troyer drove for him, well myself and a few other guys started to work on the race car after work till all hours of the night to be ready for friday night, then we started to go to the track every week to work on the race car there as well, that did it it gets in your blood.
Today we go to the track to see drivers, cars and most of all to have fun and spend time with 130,000 more people who love racing thats NASCAR

I have watched Nascar since the 70′s and will keep watching till I die. I cheered for Dale Sr. and now cheer for Dale Jr., my spare bedroom is totally full of Sr. & Jr. diecast also my garage is wall to wall diecast of Sr. and all the other Nascar drivers. In fact I just finished building a 1/64 scale race track of Bristol Motor Speedway, its 6 foot by 12 foot in size. My wife watches also, she is a Tony Stewert fan, we both actually like most of the drivers and we are hoping Mark Martin wins the Title this year or next.

I started listening to the races on the radio after I was first married in 1955. Loved the excitement and when Dale Sr started I was in love with it. He was the best, watched him til the day he died, and also watched Jr when he first started racing as a kid. Been to a lot of the Nascar races and would never have believed it would turn out has it has today. Just a bunch of cars following each other around the track. But still go to the races, was at Indy on Sunday again and still love being at the track. Go JR GO! I’m 75 now and sure hope JR gets a championship before to many more years. I want to be here to see him win.

I have been going to races since 1964, it started at the old “Peach Bowl” in Atlanta. We became friends with T.C. Hunts family and then my husband became involved with then AIR – Atlanta Internation Raceway, where he was part of the rescue group when they would have wrecks. It then got bigger and bigger and Dale Earnhardt, Sr came on the scene and I’ve been a fan ever since. When Dale, Jr. started racing it was just natural to get on his band wagon and now I love the kid like he was my own. I just wish some of the people would leave him alone and let him be his own man, no-one knows how much pressure he has on him and he seems just to let what people say roll of his back, he’s always got a smile regardless of what happens and he’s had his share of bad luck this year. Most drivers would blow up or spew off at the mouth with the kind of luck Jr. has had but not Jr., he’s always kind and courteous to the reporters and everyone else. I just hope his luck changes and people will shut up, giving him a hard time. Look at the stats of what he has done, he’s one heck of a good driver, he’s just had bad luck!!! Love ya, Junebug.

I used to watch a few races when I could get them on TV. Where I was I usually wasn’t able to get the races. Just before I retired I got satellite at my home in the city so then when I moved back here I was able to watch the races. My son was an avid Dale Sr fan and was very upset when he was killed. He became a Dale Jr fan so I started following Jr when I started watching in 2004. I read about him and could see what a special person he was so now I am an avid Dale Jr fan. He’s the same age as my oldest grand daughter (she’s special, too). I’m at the age when I don’t collect much but I am a member of Jr’s fan club and I buy Sr and Jr merchandise for my son. I hope Jr starts doing better this year and maybe win a race or two.
There are some drivers I love to hate, some I just don’t care for and others I like but don’t cheer for them unless Jr is out of the race.

i became a race fan when my husband & i first got together 12yrs. ago. my all time favorite racer is Dale Sr. but I LOVE the action in the race, the wrecking & the peed off driver’s who get wrecked!! everyone says “Who wants to watch a bunch of cars going around in circles for 2hrs.?” well, it ain’t all about just driving. there’s pit strategies, gas configuration & all kinds of technical stuff to consider when racing!
GOOOOOO NASCAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was raised around racing from the time I was just a kid, 4-5yrs. old. Mostly it was local dirt track racing or demolitian derbys. Then I moved on to drag racing. I always knew someone who was involved with racing somehow or another.I have a serious need for speed. Then I went to work at a Chevy Dealership in the late 70′s. Needless to say that’s where I got hooked on Nascar. A group of us went to a Nascar race in the early 80′s and that’s all it took. Dale senior was my favorite along with Kevin harvick. Now my favorite is Junior, and not because of his Dad. Junior has shown that he has what it takes to be a top driver. I have a long list of drivers that I like, but Junior is my favorite, good years and bad years. There is so much excitement at a Nascar race it’s awesome. You never meet a stranger at a race. I know people that I met 10-15 years ago and we are still friends to this day. It’s all about the noise, the cars, the drivers, the smell of the fuel the rubber all over you when you leave and the fans. There’s nothing better than a Nascar fan. The racing is addictive. Once you’ve been to a race, you’re hooked. It’s an unbelievable experience. I have so much Nascar things I’m running out of room to put it all. It’s just awesome!.

I was born loving all motor sports. I didn’t start watching the NASCAR series till about a year before Earnhart died. Once that all happend my heart just went out to the Earnhart’s and that made me a Dale Jr. AND Kerry fan. I like other drivers and love to hate the Busch’s! Ata live NASCAR race is the most exciting with the sound the smell the sight. It’s just very much more entertaining than your regular ball games. Motor sport RULE! NASCAR REALLY RULES ALL SPORTS!
[Reply]
I have been watching NASCAR since the early ’70s when CBS would show parts or all of the race on the “Wide World od Sports” program on Sundays. Prior to that, I got interested due to going to a state fair at the old Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine in the late ’60s, I was probably all of 17 at the time and fell in love with the smell of fuel, burning rubber, and the roar of the engines. The drivers that night out on a great show or speed, luck, and daring. And I was hooked.
Since then I have had many fav drivers; the likes of Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, the Allisons, Buddy Baker, etc. I also liked the commentators, such as Eli Gold, Chris Economaci, and Jackie Stewart. They knew how to call a race. Those were the days and racing was racing.
These days, I still love watching NASCAR whether it’s a road course, short track, speedway, or superspeedway. When Dale Earnhardt Sr hit the races, I started folowing him and he turned into my #1 fav. It was a real sad day for NASCAR racing when he died and we won’t see racing like that again. I now follow Dale Jr and watch others as well. There isn’t a driver out there I don’t like. I watch the Nationwide and Truck series also and follow some of those drivers as well.
IMO, there is not a better sport in the USA nor on TV than NASCAR racing.

I have been watching Nascar for about 25 years. My cousin Dick Trickle is a favorite of mine! I grew up in Wisconsin Rapids WI following him and all his fans 3 to 4 nights a week until he went onto Nascar. I just wish he could have gotten a better funded ride and better equipment too be able to show what he is really made of. NASCAR ROCKS!!!!!!

I am a race fan because of my Dad. He raced cars back in the day and after he married my Mom he gave up racing but still attended races every weekend. He started taking me along when I was about 9 or 10 and instead of being bored I was a fan right from the start. He was a fan of Dale Sr. and like most of us that were, I am a fan of Dale Jr. I like what they bring to Nascar, the integrity of the people he surrounds himself with and the good person that he is – very generous to charaties and gives back. If you are a nascar fan and have been lucky enough to attend a race, you know for sure why you are a nascar fan – the first few times around the track when they are full out is the most fun I have ever had in my life and I hope everyone who is a fan can do that atleast once. Nascar is about family and friends watching the races and cheering on their favorite driver, win or lose. It is a blast and something I will never grow tired of.

My wife and I have been married for 46 years and have always been involved with racing. We started racing in parking lots then went to Drag Racing. Along the way we involved all of our kids in all of our ventures. One day I was watching tv on Sunday and there was a Nascar Race on. Since that day we have all been Nascar fans. We pull for Jr through good and bad and always will.

Betty.. I can relate to your comment on why nascar is my favorite. Being in the Asheville area, I too remember the good old days with racing around here. Yes Dale Sr. now Dale Jr. then Tony (Smoke) Stewart are my favorites. Fast cars on a oval track just can’t be beat. So, lets say my wife and myself just love Nascar racing. Walt.

I could go on forever since I started going to stock car races back at the end of 50′s. My parents and I would go Friday night to Belleville IL, then Rolla on Sat. then Wentsville Mo on Suday. They became very close friends with Bill Schrader, father of Ken. Great dirt track racing. Followed USAC for years, DuQuoin Il. Went to Indy every year for years. In college raced my own MGB throught the mid west. Pulled it to races with my 1967 Austin Healey III, last year imported.
Have watched it every Sat. night or Sun. for years. Lately though with the vanilla 1 1/2 mi tracks, the COT, the boring gas mileage “hold my breath to see if I make it.”
Nascar fining for rough driving, etc.
Bring back the good ol day’s of Allison, Petty, Fireball, those were the best.

for years my husband has watched the nascar races every week end, his driver was dale earnhardt sr. we would cancel trips when there was a nascar race, just because he enjoyed dale sr. so much!then i got interested in them to. that’s when we met dale sr. several times, and i had a car that looked just like his race car, a lumina, which he signed for us. that car meant the world to us. and dale sr meant the world to us. he was our driver. and he was the best!!!!!!!! we miss him so much, nascar just isn’t the same. now we pull for dale jr. so that’s why we are nascar fans. dale meant so much to us, and now it’s dale jr.

I have been a race fan for 65 years as a friend of mine drove midgets back then racing a dirt track circuit in Ohio. From Ohio flew to Darlington way back when in a 4 place cessna and saw Richard Petty’s father race there.
Had a liking for open wheel and went to 14 Indy races in a row, last one being in 1966. However, became a NASCAR fan, over open wheel races, as NASCAR has American drivers whereas IRL has so many foriegn drivers that are unknown to dyed in the wool race fans

My boyfriend got me hooked on nascar. He was watching a race on tv and i thought i would watch it with him. He told me he had a favorite driver,so i figured i would just pick a driver. I ended up picking Dale Jr,because i seen him getting interviewed and liked his style and personality and the way he was driving. After watching it every sunday,my boyfriend surprised me with tickets to talladega. It was so awesome to go to a race and i was definitely hooked then.

I guess I have to go back to when I was a very young child and even though I was a girl, my Dad always worked on his own cars and always owned a “Chevy” and I was always at his side and asked questions as what was under the hood that he was fixing. He always told me exactly what all the parts were for. I guess I have always been a fan of Dale Sr’s and my first race track was Daytona when Cale Yarborough, Alan Kawuicki(?), Richard Petty,DW and that group were all racing.
I can remember when Dale Jr. was a tow head and was at his father’s side after his wins. From that day to now I have always admired Jr. as he reminds me of my love for my Dad and I still see the love in his eyes when speaks of his own father. I guess I feel that connection with him and I never miss a race each week-end, even if I’m not able…I DVR it.
At the young age of 79 I still have NASCAR and Jr. in my blood and now have my young grandson growing up with NASCAR in his as well.
The the only wish I have before I meet my maker is one day to meet Junior in person. I still drive a Chevy ( 2002 Monte Carlo SS) and still go to as many racktracks as I can afford.

I’m not as big a fan as I used to be. Over the last few years, it seems like Nascar is only out for the money and the hell with the fans. Nascar needs to remember that the drivers and owners can go anywhere to race(not the big money but they can race)and without them Nascar is nothing. They do put out caustions for nothing, they do get the drivers for speeding on pit road when they haven’t. They let certain drivers get away with things that others would not. You never know what time to watch or what channel to go to and the number of commercials is ridiculous. The announcers very often down right lie to keep the viewer watching by saying”We’ll take one more brake and than go green to the end). Well, next thing you know, there is a caution and another commercial. And than they will say it again and when the race is over, they can’t wait to get off the air. Cut interviews short or just plain switch to another event. Sorry for the spouting so I suppose I should answer the question. I am a fan because I really enjoy SEEING the races and I go to as many as I can afford.

I have been a Nascar fan since the early sixties.Richard Petty was a young man, and I was a young woman then. The fellow that I was dating at the time introduced me to the racing scene. Dating him did not last, but my love for racing did. I have seen many changes in that time. Some I liked, some I didn’t. I took my children to the races and they are still fans. My son thought it was cool that his Mom was a race fan and knew all the drivers and there cars. It was a family thing. I was a great fan of Harry Gant and was so disappointed when he retired. He was truly a gentleman driver. I haven’t had a real favorite since he left. I like a lot of the drivers and I dislike some too. But my love for racing is still strong.
I will be 75 my next birthday. Loveracn

I became a fan in the 60′s. I watched short track and followed Dick Trickle which led to wanting to see the best of the best. I really liked it when the teams came up with inovative ideas to gain an edge. (taken away now) I liked watching the pit action and the toughness of the drivers. Bobby Allison, David Pearson, AJ Foyt I really like for perfection of their different styles and being successful. I never could stand to miss a race and now I do miss some and feel oh well a Hendrick team probably will win anyway. I still am a fan, but not as strong.

I became a fan by watching NASCAR races with my boyfriend, who later became my husband. He introduced me to NASCAR. I fell in love with the sport! It has been a wonderful ride! In fact, we got married on a trip to Las Vegas to see the race on March 7, 1999. I have become a fan “right down to the bone!”

I started going to races at a local track in Tampa, FL back in the early ’60′s. I was told “racing gets in your blood” which I soon found out for myself. When NASCAR races started being televised, I was addicted. I became a Dale Earnhardt fan the first time I ever saw him race. My loyalty now is to Dale Jr. and Brad Keselowski, who drives Dale Jr’s #88 Nationwide car.

I became a Nascar fan as a teenager back in the 1950′s . There would only be about three lines in Monday’s paper but I could hardly wait to read about it . L Petty , Pearson and all the first generation . Then R . Petty , Jr . Johnson , and Lorenzen and all of the greats of the 1960′s . When A B C wide world of sports came on Saturday I was glued to the T V . I always enjoyed watching . And on up through the 70′s and 80′s .I just love great racing

I’m A nascar fan since i was 6yrs old i went to my first nascar at dover i’ve been hooked ever since! I been going to dover every year i would not miss a race. what makes it that more exciting around the yr 1998 i got the dream shot i met up with some guys that work with ricky rudd and ken schader ( skoal Bandit) this one guy had a skoal bandit racing shirt on and i asked him how could i get one he i could’t it was team issued. i asked him again but got the same so at that point he asked me if i wanted to go to daytona and from that time i went and on to help on the race team skoal bandit racing. it was exciting and from that i was working for that team for 2 yrs then i went on to work for aj foyt racing i’ve worked for several different drivers, from beeing at the track or even watching it on tv this was far the best time of my life, and i loved every second 0f. so now you know why i’m hooked on the best sport in the world!!

My Uncle would take us kids with him every Saturday night to watch the hobby, and late model stock cars race at a local short track in the St.Louis Area, where I was raised in the mid 50s.Our favorite “Bull Ring” was the old Belclaire Speedway in Belleville,Ill. I became a Richard Petty fan in the early 60s when he went on a “Tear” and was winning just about every race he ran.Television hadn’t matured enough to carry races yet (Though they did have Pro Wrestling!lol! Go figure!) So I listened to what races I could find on an old “Minerva Tropic Master” radio I scrounged out of a junk pile and rebuilt. I fear that Nascar is going the route of Professional Wrestling and forgeting where they came from, only seeing the money.I started rooting for Dale Earnhardt Sr. when he went on the same kind of streak that Bro.Petty did,and because his style was a throwback to the way they drove back in “The Day,” when once you started the pace lap, you didn’t have any friends, didn’t want any, and would put your owm Mother into the wall if she got in the way on the last lap.

I first became a Nascar fan the season of Dale Sr’s. accident. The speed of the cars, the arguements, the drivers, makes the sport very exciting. My driver, Jeff Gordon, caught my eye the first time I watched a race. Then the likes of Jimmie and the rest of the Hendrick team makes Nascar special. Going to a race made me think why people don’t like watching racing, claiming that they only go in a circle. Well, circle or not, Nascar is always very exciting. It is the kind of sport that keeps you on the edge of your seat every weekend. If it wasn’t for Nascar, Sunday’s and some Saturday nights would be very boring.

I was brought up from a young girl with stock car racing. My
father and cousin drove and my uncles were involved in the
pits and one was the flagman. I have always enjoyed speed! Dale
Sr. was my favorite driver and I was heartbroken when he died.
His son Dale Jr is the one I have as my favorite driver now. He
is a very respectful young man
I am originally from Indiana. Have been to the races in Vegas
and Daytona.
Nascar is not just for the young. I turned 70 last month and
still yell and holler at the TV when the races are on.

I first got interested in racing, going to the local dirt track in Pa. I lived in Md, but it wasn’t far and from there it just gradually turned to NASCAR. I am forever a fan of Dale Sr. and I support Jr. now. Dale was a loss I will never get over, I felt when he crashed it was serious, why I don’t know, but I knew he was badly injured, and I have Dale Sr foundation plates on my car and will always have things on the car that remind me of him. He was as real as a person could get, nothin phony about Dale he told it like it was and if you didn’t like it then tough. NASCAR is tame now, controlled like a dictatorship and not nearly as much fun from week to week. Used to be rivalries between drivers, but its a No No now. I am sorry to say the newer fans just don’t get it, maybe with time they will. The change I do like however, is the amount of safety features in the cars and on the tracks, such as safer barriers, I think they have already prevented serious injuries to drivers. Ok enough ranting, but let me say if your not a fan, just go to ONE (1)race and feel the thunder and the smells of racing, you cannot get that on TV.

I have been a fan of NASCAR since the mid to late 80′s. I always followed Dale Sr. In 2001, I knew I wouldn’t be home to watch the Daytona 500. I set my VCR to record it only to find out later that day that Dale had died at the end of the race. I still have that tape to this day. And how could a Sr fan not become a Jr fan after that happened. As far as how Jr is running these days, I say this. A TRUE fan will always be a fan regardless if your driver is winning or not. Go Jr!! After all, they counted Sr out many a time and he always found a way to come back and show ‘em where the bear *you know what* in the woods!

I became a Nascar fan by mistake I guess you would call it, I was at home bored one day, I turned on the TV and there was this bad @ss black number 3 car that won the race.
When Dale Sr got out on the roof and celebrated his win and he started talking truth, that’s when I fell in love with racing, only because he told the media how it was and how it was going to be concerning his stand point, I guess I like aggressiveness when it came to him, and I become a fan of his until his death as still am today.
When his son came into racing, I started following him as well, once an Earnhardt fan always an Earnhardt fan Sr & Jr alike, GO 88!!

My wonderful father got me hooked on Nascar. It was a rather long journey for him, but in the end I made it. Daddy works on Chevy’s and being the “tomboy” of two daughters I got to help him work on cars. I remember going to the quarter mile drags on Saturdays and Nascar on Sundays. When I was young I didn’t like Nascar as much as the quarter mile, but I went for my father. He was a Sr. fan and I was a D.W. and Michael fan. Had to keep things interesting. After the motor cycle came the quarter mile and did we have fun. Finally the quarter mile came to an end and Nascar became my sport of sport. I am a Jr. fan and that choice is due to the manner in which he carries himself and for the truely wonderful person that he is. There are a few drivers that could learn a few things from Jr.. When I told Daddy that I had become a Jr. fan he just couldn’t believe me at first. Being fans of the same driver has actually been interesting. We both wear the same t-shirts or pants on race day, it’s a good luck thing. We still debate over why a car might of blown up or why crew cheifs make some of the decisions they do. I will be 50 this year and still love to go out and help Daddy under the hood.
I say, “Jr. fans are the best and we have the best driver on the track.”
This weekend Daddy and I are wearing our green 88 t-shirts. These are the shirts we wore last yr. when he won in Michegan. This is the weekend for Jr.’s 1st. win this season.

I have always loved Auto racing from the time I was a little girl in Huntington Beach CA. I used to go to the midget races with my dad. When I lived in Huntsville Alabama I went to the race track with my sister-in-law and we went to breakfast with some of the drivers after the races The Allisons and Darrell Waltrip were among some that I met way back when. I love the excitement when my driver is in the lead. Darrell Waltrip was my favorite driver and I always rooted for him. Then when Jeff gordon was new to the sport started cheering for him. Now Dale Jr is my favorite Driver and I felt so sorry for him when his dad was killed, and I think that he is the best driver out there, I will always be a Dale JR. Fan. He is one Heck of a nice young man. He has had a tough couple of years, but I still believe he will come into his own one of these days soon. He will win again I Know. Go JR.

When my favorite author, Sharyn McCrumb, wrote “Saint Dale,” I read it because I read all of her books, and I saw another side of NASCAR — the human side. I realized that the drivers, crew chiefs, tire changers, fans, everyone involved had stories to tell me and all I had to do was watch and see how their lives played out. Where once I was dismissive of the sport (in truth, i’ve never been interested in any sports), I now watch all I can and record the ones I can’t. I never wanted to have a favorite driver, but watching Dale Jr. on “60 minutes” changed my mind. He looks and sounds like my nephew, and I knew I’d be proud to have a son like him.

I became a NASCAR fan because of my mother. She was an avid sports fan since I can remember. She loved racing and taught us to love it too! She thought Dale Jr. was “such a nice boy” and thus a fan was born in me! LOL Whenever a race was on TV we all sat in front of the TV watching every move! I think my mother yelled the loudest tho whenever something happened on the track! Needless to say to this day I love racing!

I became interested in NASCAR back in the late 70′s when a male co-worker happily related the past Sunday’s race & talked about his favorite driver. I watched a race & became hooked! I loved Dale Sr. & root for Jr. every race but if he doesn’t win, a win by Jimmie, Mark, Smoke or Carl doesn’t upset me. A win by Kyle just about ruins my day! Like the fact that the families are at the tracks – you just don’t see that much in other sports. Also like the fact that NASCAR fans bleed red, white & blue. Got my husband hooked & we now watch races together. I’m 61 years old – proves racing not just for the youngsters.

I have been a fan since 1978, when I saw Dale Earnhardt for the first time. And have been a big fan ever since. Now of course I am a JR. fan. But since NASCAR has let the sponsor’s have control of the sport and turn it in to Iroc racing and everyone is even I think the sport is going downhill and going fast. The sport seem’s to be losing fan’s left and right. It is just not the same sport anymore, but i will keep watching until the end!! Good luck Nascar and Dale JR. Go Go Go……

I guess I have been a race fan since an infant. My mom tells a story about when she took me to an indy race as an infant, and when A.J. Foyt came racing by I would giggle and laugh, but when the other cars came by I would scream and cry. Been in my blood I guess. I love cars I guess that is why I became a service advisor for Gm and ford vehicles. I watch Nascar and follow Nascar because it has the best asction and the most access to the drivers than in any other sport. Check out my facebook page and you will see just how big of fans we are. After all we did get married in Victory Lane at Texas Motor Speedway back in April 2007 on race weekend. The wedding made CNN because of the weather that hit that day. I heard we made the newspapers from here to North Carolina too, how cool is that? Other sports fail to compare to the action that Nascar brings to the table. If I do watch football ( only after Nascar season has ended) I watch either the Steelers (Go Ben) or the super Bowl. Other sports are so slow compared to Nascar. I tell my husband if Baseball players could run around the bases at 200 mph Now that would be something to watch. LOL

I fell in love with Nascar a few years back. I came home from church one Sunday afternoon and was flipping thru the channels and came across the Daytona 500! So I watched it and was so excited and loved it. Unfortunately it was the race that Dale Sr. lost his life in! And I’ve been committed ever since! I have to hurry home every week to see the races. I have ALWAYS loved Dale Jr. and I admire his strength and courage after losing his dad while doing what the family loves! I look forward to the day that Jr. gets it all going again! The Earnhart Family are awesome…its just too bad the wicked step mother is in there! I follow the Hendrick drivers the most, but enjoy others also. I really believe that Kurt Busch and Michael Waltrip will turn it around and come back and win more too! And Daryl Waltrip is my favorite Man in the booth!
I wish more of my friends would get involved so we could follow it together. But since not, I have a group of men that I follow it with. And we love it all! We compete everyweek to choose who will win and lose! I believe Nascar is in my blood forever! GO HENDRICK GUYS!!!!!

I have watched Nascar for several years and have been to many of the tracks. At 1 point Nascar was not on TV like it is today so I couldnt’ really get into it like i am today. I was watching Nascar regularly on TV just before Dale got killed. I couldnt’ believe he got killed because there had been many wrecks worse then his. Saying that I became a Tony Stewart fan but by watcing it on a regular bases there became to me more then the race. Not to many things in this world impresses me but Nascar does and this is the reasons. Nascar is a hugh enity. It employees hundreds maybe thousand of people plus everywhere they go they make thousands of dollars for the locals not just them. They are an important part of our economy because of this. Nascar is not just go fast turn left. Plus Nascar helps millions of people and the fans help them because of the racing. it is not a red neck sport it is big business.

I’m a NASCAR fan because I like all kinds of racing. The part that I used to like the most about NASCAR was the grudges but NASCAR penalized the guys so much that they are scared to even touch each other anymore. If they would let it go back to the olden ways I would like it more!!!!!!!!!!
Go Junior I know you have it in you just bring it out and show it like you used too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm… But to expierence a race at any track is the way to go! It’s ALL AMERICAN. People from all walks of life. Nascar fans are different than any other sports fans. We are Truely UNIQUE.

I myself have only been a fan for 4 years now and let me tell you there is nothing like a nascar race. The sound of the cars make your chest pound, the smell in the air is the scent of speed, the breeze that you get when the cars go blowing passed you almost knocks you off your feet. The excitement from the fans is like nothing I have ever seen, Now I am a women so the hot guys everywhere in uniform is also worth seeing. What you see on TV is nothing compared to it in person Trust me if you are a Nascar fan once you attend your first race it will not be your last. This is the only sport that the fans can get up close to the guys and the guys really want to be with their fans. My driver is Martin Truex jr Go Martin!!

I live in Kansas and had a chance to go to a race in Charlotte with relatives in 2005. I had taped races for my son, but never watched an entire race, just bits and pieces. I figured I would be bored to death at the Coke 600, but when I got there and watched the Busch race the day before, I was totally hooked. I loved the sights and sounds and interesting people and the excitement of the race. I didn’t have a favorite driver then, but I now consider Tony Stewart my favorite driver. I went back to Charlotte the next year and watched the All-Star Race and the 2 races the next weekend. I like almost all of the drivers and watch everything Nascar on TV. I am now a Nascar fanatic. I belong to the Nascar Fan Council and I just voted on the Hall of Fame nominees. I am now retired so racing is the highlight of my week.

I was brought up with friends that raced on small tracks, we followed them at different tracks in Maine. I loved to watch them race and cheer for them to win. Although at times was very scary, the thrill was still there. Then from there to the big races, and Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Bill Elliot and so on. I just love the thrill and the drivers skills, and most of all, how caring they are to the fans and each other on and off the track. I just wished, they can stop some of the young drivers to be more respectful to the fans and the other drivers, instead of walking away and acting like a baby, if they can’t be respectful, even if they don’t win, then don’t let them race, or stop blaming other racers or crew for their own screw up. To me, that takes away some of the goodness of the race. Go Jr., Ryan Newman, and all the rest that will admit to their bad days at the track.

I became a NASCAR fan because I love the speed, action and excitement. My students always tease me for it and say, “Aw, it’s stupid watching cars go around in a circle”! But, I explain to them it’s more than cars going around in a circle. It’s following a team, watching them pit, understanding the science of “do you have enough fuel? Do your tires need to be changed? Can you make that turn without hitting the wall?! How in the heck do you drive 195 mph and not hit the bumper 1/2″ away?!” It’s a very exciting sport.

I became a fan many many years ago. Back them I was a die hard Richard Petty fan.Went to his final race at Charlotte and for many yrs just became a fan for whoever drove his cars. Didn’t matter the driver,it was owned by the King. Then I had to finally decide I needed a driver of my own. So Dale Jr came along. Sorry to ya’ll who were a Sr. fan..I was not a fan of Sr. But I saw and still see something in Jr that I only see in two other drivers out there. (YUP Tony Stewart and MARK MARTIN) I don’t base my fav’s on a car make. I base it on a driver. And what I feel coming from him. Dale Jr loves racing! Period. He has a soul of a racer.Win or lose he loves to race. He does it fair. Does not want to wreck anyone. Just want’s to race and be his own man. I wish people would stop harping on who his daddy is. Yes Dale Sr was a great driver. But he is gone now.And Jr is here. He should not be judged by his daddy anymore than Dale Jarrett,Kyle Petty or any other father and son combo. They are not their dad’s. They are themselves and the pressure that get’s put on them is not fair. Let it go and let Dale Jr become his own self, and not his dad’s image. Two diff styles of racing people. And Dale is a awesome driver and also a great person in his own right.Let him love the sport, enjoy his fans and drive. I will be a Dale Jr fan until he is no longer racing. And as far as i’m concerned Nascar is my sport !

I have been a nascar fan all my life, i still to this day can recall when Nascar first came to telvision, It was black and white back then, Ralph earnhardt And all the good old boys was running, Fire ball roberts, Lee petty, A.J. FOYT, Marty Robbins And All of the rest ofthe good old boys, And the first Negro to run was Wendell Scott, them was the good old days, then came color telvision, a nice big 27 inch screen to realy watch the entire race in color, them day can not be beat, they can try, but after the loss of Dale Earnhardt Sr, raceing just has not been raceing as it was once known, and the snotty nose kid, KYLE BUSH, his father needs to take him out behind the shed and teach him some manners. and nascar for being so blind to not see just all the things that Kyle had pulled, they need to have a eys inspection and watch what has been going on. For many years ive been a speed freak, for a year i drove on dirt tracks in my home town, up untill a bad accident i got in back in my younger years.

I became a fan through my husband. If you can’t beat them join them. I liked that it was kid friendly and they had lots of different charities that they are apart of. They are huge with the military and having a son in his second tour of Iraq I honestly get choked up watching that flag and hearing the song. They also are not afraid of having a prayer done before the race. And then of course comes the racing. I love it. It is amazing and I am so happy that they are making it safer and safer for the drivers. We now go to tracks near our home to watch the little guys. The ones that hope for that chance one day. I am making it to my first race in August to Michigan, and even though it is a 10 hour drive, it is going to be worth it.

I am probably the oldest of all you subscribers, but I guess my love of speed began when I was born and received some “speed” genes from my father, who raced motorcycles in the 20′s & 30′s and won the 24 hour race in Cuba. My family went to NASCAR races beginning in the 50′s & 60′s and have continued to do so. I was fortunate to be associated with Petty Enterprises (only as a wife of one of Richard’s employees) and back in those days I helped score the drivers (this was before the new scoring system) and I sat with Lynda Petty at times when she scored for Richard. My husband and I followed the circuit and those were the best of times. Of course I always pulled for Richard. Since his retirement, I have pulled for Earnhardt Sr. and now I’m a devout Jr. fan and know his time for winning is soon to come. Thanks to all you drivers for making NASCAR racing the best!!

My son was a big fan of JR Dad and he would call me after the race all excited and at that time I was not interested in racing But I thought if I was going to keep up with my son I should learn! so I did and followed Dale Sr. untill his untimely death at Daytona, We lost a great competitor. So it was only natural to turn to JR and Both my son And I have been dedicated fans of JR and thats my story.
GO JUNIOR GO!

My husband would sit and watch these cars go around in a circle (he called it racing), and I would ask him what the big deal was. He said it was called “Nascar” racing, and to just sit and watch it. Once you get to know the racers, you’ll like it. I was hooked! Hubbie liked Jeff Gordon because he was a very humble, God-loving man. (He always thanked God after winning a race, many people didn’t like him for this). I started reading about him and other racers, got to know all their car numbers, names, wives, crew chiefs. Now, many, many years later, we attend at least two races a year, try to watch every race on TV, and I collect Jeff Gordon T-shirts and other stuff. My car is decorated in “24″! And guess what? I’m more of a fan than my husband! Imagine that!

I have been a Nascar fan since 1993 (Jeff Gordons rookie year),and watched to see who I liked and took the ROOKIE Jeff! I liked the way he drove being a rookie and the experience he had.He is 1 of Nascars greatest drivers and will continue to be a great driver.Tying Dale and Richard for 7 championships,He has alot of road to travel to get to that point with only 4 now. I loved Dale after seeing the type of “INTIMIDATOR” he was.He is definitly a ONE AND ONLY Nascar great,he knew what it took and how to do it.I am a fan of J.G./Dale Jr. big time. Now that they are team mates its even easier to root for them.I have had the privlige of meeting Dale and Jeff and get their autographs as well as have my pic. made with Dale.I was at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida, and Dale was the only 1 who thanked people for waiting in line to see him.He earned my respect even more.I have been for 16 years a DIE-HARD FAN and always will be.Been to Daytona,Atlanta, and Homestead tracks over and over and will continue to do so.NASCAR is the biggest sport today full of excitement, twist, turns and most of all the SPEED! GO HENDRICK DRIVERS!!

My dad loved to work on cars and liked racing. Being a daddy’s girl he would let me crawl under the car with him and explain what he was doing. My ex-husband also liked working on cars and he did all kinds of racing. Dale Sr. caught my attention and after he died I started watching Dale Jr. He is and always be my favorite driver. I have become a very competitiive fan – I love to love Jr. and I love to hate the Shrub.

I used to watch Nascar when Dale Sr. was driving and just loved him and was really thrilled when Jr. came along. When Sr. was killed it was like I knew him personally. I’ll never forget when the camera caught Jr. running across the grass to go to his dad. It just broke my heart. I will always be a Jr. fan and look forward to when he gets everything back on track. I cheer for all the Hendrick drtivers as well as Tony Stewart. I can’t help but wonder what Sr. would have done with Kyle if they were both racing today. Let your imagination run wild.

My Dad & my uncle raced at local dirt tracks. My husband owned race cars and my cousin drove them for him. In 1968 my Dad took my husband and me to our first nascar race, at Daytona, no less. We were hooked. We became Dale Earnhardt fans from the first time we saw him drive (back in the 70`s). Our garage and one room in our house is dedicated to his racing career. We started adding Jr. memorabilia to our collection when he came on the scene. We stop by his shop every year when we go to the All Star race, and again when we go to Daytona. Those are our two favorite tracks, although we have been to many others. I guess you could say we are die-hard race fans. We LOVE the EARNHARDTS!!!!!

I have been a NASCAR fan for a long time, but really got into it when Dale Jr. came on the scene. He is a very real person who doesn’t think of himself as a super star as some other drivers do. He goes out of his way to make his fans happy and be assessible to them. A real class act. Keep up the good work Dale Jr.
NASCAR needs more drivers like you!

For 52 years,I have been a race fan at dirt tracks from Alaska to Homestead FL,when Richard Petty and others raced, and then on to the big time now on super race tracks, and Richard still has cars competing. My favorites are Jeff Gordon, Little “E”, Jimmie Johnson, and good ole Mark at 50 years old and still competing. I like them all, as long as they race competively, and don’t race dirty, and try to knock out the good ole drivers that race for the fans who support them. Enjoy going to NASCAR race tracks, but still miss the good ole days when racing on the ole dirt tracks was thrilling. Keep racing guys and girls and keep it clean and safe while doing it, and have fun!!!!!!!!

I firsted pullling for Bobby Allison and the Davey. I am now pulling for Jr. Nobody how good or bad he does he still my drive. I got to see him at Homestead but not close enough for a autograph. His time will come. He seems like a good guy that cares about his family and fans. He gives it all he has. You can’t fault him for trying. Oneday his day will come and Jr Nation can stand up and say that’s my driver. My God make his face to shown up and him and keep him safe and all the other drivers. They never know what is going to happen in each race. I had the chance to do a Rider Along. It was great i did 3 laps at 163 miles and hour. I had a ball and would do it again.I saw a little of what it was like. We even got a little close to wall. I got to do it in the #8 car. God bless the Boys of Nascar.

I have been a fan of NASCAR from the beginning in the late 50′s when they had Fireball Roberts, Curtis Turner, Tiny Lund, Ned Jarrett, Junior Johnson, Harry Gant, the Allison Brother’s, all running on the old tracks. I have followed it very close for the past 40 years and have seen a lot of changes in the sport. There are a lot of good driver’s out there, and I follow Earnhardt, Jr more than any of them. His time will come to win some races and hopefully a Championship. I hope that NASCAR will continue to grow and support the driver’s for years to come.

I became a real fan in 2005. I had seen the end of the Daytona race where Sr. was killed but didn’t become a real diehard until 2005. My sister asked me in the summer of 2005 what driver did I like and I said Tony Stewart. That December when Tony was in NYC for Championship week, we went up to the city for his appearance on the Today show.
At the same time, Nascar was looking into putting a racetrack on Staten Island where I live. I got involved with that group who supported the track being built.
I have met several of the drivers such as Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton, Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne.
I also root for Junior and Mark Martin.
At work, there are 3 Nascar fans along with a few of my residents. We all have different drivers that we like and on Mondays, we discuss the race.

I was originally a HUGE NHRA fan, didn’t even care for “roundy-rounders”. The only NASCAR race I had ever seen happened to be the one in which Dale Sr. lost his life. Then one night I was watching 60 Minutes with Dale Jr. talking about his recent accident in the i-roc series when he was burned. I listened to him talk about his father and how he thought for sure his father, or the spirit of his father, pulled him from his burning racecar. I’s never even seen Jr. before. Needless to say, I was very curious about him, his family and NASCAR. I watched the next race that was on and was HOOKED instantly. I’ve been a dedicated JR fan and NASCAR fan ever since. THANKS JUNIOR, AND THANKS TO NASCAR FOR THIS WONDERFUL SPORT AND ALL THE PEOPLE THAT MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!!!!!

To who it may concern,
I always loved the feel of speed, ever since I was young man. I would be with buddies and we woulg go out on Friday nites to afew different places and we would “DRAG RACE” reaching speeds of over 100 or so miles an hour. Later in my life I wanted to keep up with speed, so I went out and bought a high pro race car, a 1970 Olds 442, with the high pro engine in it. It was somewhere around 375 to 390 or so horsepower. It was really fast, and I could burn alot of tire with it.
Then about 7 years ago, I went out and bought my life long dream, a corvette. It was 40 years since I saw my first corvette. The first corvette I ever saw was a 1962 corvette convertible, a 327 with a 3 speed, since seeing that, I always dreamed about getting one.So, after 40 years, and a marriage and children, and a divorce, I finally got one. And, even though I am 62 going on 63 years of age I still
go through a period of youthfulness when I drive my car, it makes me feel, and takes me back to when I was a teenager.
I love NASCAR,I only wish that I had known about NASCAR when I was in my teens or early twenties, maybe I could have been a racer
for NASCAR
Thank You

I started watching NASCAR when I first saw Dale Earnhardt. He raced a few races in 1978. Than became full time in 1979. That is when I started watching full time. I did watch Richard Petty some and did start becoming a fan but when Dale Earnhardt hit the track that was it, I was a big time Dale fan forever!!!

Times are tough. Some things can be on cable, like the extra shows, but not the Race! Go back to the good old days. Cheap seats also at the race.

I can remember as a young girl watching the races with my dad on Sunday afternoon. In the 80s, cheering on Bill Elliott and watching him win all his races started a trend for me that hasnt stopped. Now, in 2009, Im a big Dale Jr. fan. Watching the races is still a thrill for me and Nascar will always be a part of me.

I grew up going to the dirt tracks, the sounds of the engines, the speed, crashes and fights at the during the races and after. I started watching the races on tv in the early 60′s.
I continued to watch on tv, and started going to Michigan International Speedway. I loved Dale SR and Junior racing beside his dad. I loved watching the old drivers and the fights and crashes. Now that was racing. I go to Mis every June and August and my grand daughters also go, they love it as much as I do. The roar of the engines, drivers (except Kyle Busch)and the fly overs are Nascar, but they do need to get real cars not COT. Dale Jr fan always.

My first race was the last year they raced on the beach and road at Daytona and you had to run across the sand dunes to see them on the beach then back across to see them on the road portion and I was hooked. I came from a racing family where my Mother raced with Emil Reutiman, David’s great grandfather. They raced Tampa, St. Pete, Lakeland and Orlando, Fla. My Dad changed a flat tire for Emil during a race when he had no pit crew and Emil remembered that because when I turned 16 and bought my first car, which was a Corvair Monza, it was purchased from Reutiman Chevrolet in Zephyrhills, Fla. and he gave my Dad a good deal on the car. Emil ran ’32 Chevy bodies and he had several many of them across the street from the garage and wouldn’t part with a one because I asked. I remember Buzzie in the garage, especially when he built his modified from a sectioned Crosley, I thought it was the coolest car I’d ever seen. Emil’s car was blue and white with Miller High Life as a sponser and he ran a GMC 6 cyl. back then and it tore up the old flat head V-8 Fords. He pulled his race car with a blue and white Chevy or GMC pickup, a ’53 I think it was, but his truck and race car were always very clean and shiny. Emil said he had built a go cart track I think it was in their yard for the boys to race on, but Buzzie is my age and I enjoy seeing him at the tracks with his son. I myself got into racing go carts and then went to motorcycles but only on a pretty much local basis. I’d like to ask Buzzie if he remembers Phillips Field in Tampa, Fla. with the Hillsboro River at the end of I think it was turn 1 and 2. More than one car went into that river. My Mom ran a ’35 Ford in the modified class and she ran with the men, not in the Powder Puff class as they called it. She won her share of races and I have her old scrap book to prove it. I’m an old Dale Earnhart Sr. fan and now go with Junior, but I’d love to see Mark Martin win a championship or two before he quits racing, he’s a good clean driver and a good competitor, I also have to admire Tony Stewart for what he’s done this year with a new team and attitude. Go MARK & TONY !!!

I am a NASCAR fan because I not only love fast cars and trucks, but I love the History, the Technology and all that goes into Auto Racing. That would include the hours of practicing, the hours of work into the cars and trucks and the energy of the very healthy, and outgoing drivers who put their all into their driving and entertaining us fans. I am a giant fan of the Chevy teams two of my favorite drivers are Dale Jr. and Tony Stewart two drivers with great personalities and if I were single would love to get to know as two down to earth gentlemen, who are intelegent, great at what they do and great for what they believe and stand for. Keep up the great work gentlemen and good luck with racing. I am following you guys and keep cheering you guys on.
I strongly dislike people who bad mouth Auto racing, what they don’t know about racing is the technology and all that is involved scintificly and so much more.

I’ve always said I was born with the racing gene, having a father who raced motorcycles and won the 24 hour race in Cuba back in the roaring 20′s. Beginning in my twenties, my brother, mother and others started in the 50′s going to the NASCAR races and have ever since. There is nothing in this world as exciting as when the roar of those engines begin. I still watch each race on TV and want to attend one more while I can. There’s no other sport any more exciting.

I have loved stock car racing since the mid-sixties. Love the cars and the competition! Love to see teams and drivers grow. Hate the obsession with the Earnhart name and drivers being nice guys, it’s a sport! Competition is the only reason this sport isn’t just a bad reality show. But NASCAR is in trouble if half the fans only care about celebrities like Jr. and not drivers whose focus is being competitive, not just famous!

Started watching in late 70′s & while I didn’t care for him at 1st Dale Earnhardt soon became my favorite driver. He had SO MUCH car control and, even though he was quiet, so much charismia.
When we lost Dale in ’01, I rooted for Steve Park. When Steve lost his ride (I think they pushed him to come back too soon) I wouldn’t have cared if my best friend hadn’t been a Dale Jr fan.
I now root for Dale Jr. Though he isn’t (and doesn’t have to be) his daddy, I see quite a few similarities. I like his drive and desire & his HUMBLENESS. I have no doubt he has an ego, couldn’t be a driver without one, but he doesn’t act like he’s the best thing since the dawn of time.
If it weren’t for Dale Jr racing in NASCAR I wouldn’t watch it anymore. The COT has ruined the racing & competition. The need for everyone to be PC has also ruined the sport. The races are not nearly as exciting as they used to be and the personalities are not as colorful.
It is no longer the NASCAR I fell in love with whay back when.

I became a NASCAR fan because I bought a Ford Thunderbird in 1984 which I loved. Then in early 1985, I saw a headline in the sports section of our local newspaper saying that T-birds were expected to dominate the Daytona 500. I perked up at that and paid attention to stock car racing for the first time. Of course, Bill Elliott blew away the field that day and 11 more times that year, so I became both an Elliott fan and a NASCAR fan. I stuck with Bill even throughout his 7-year losing streak, and was overjoyed when he not only got back into Victory Lane, but won the Brickyard. So I understand the excitement of the Mark Martin fans who are hoping for that long-awaited championship for their driver.
When Bill semi-retired, I assumed I would lose interest and for awhile I did. But now, I am enjoying the sport again, cheering for several drivers who are nothing at all like Bill Elliott on or off the track. I am really glad that I got over the attitude that many of the other posters on this site have about Dale Sr. and Dale Jr. being the only reason to follow the sport. That is a loss not only for the sport, but for you guys as well. When people say to me “how can you cheer for (fill in the blank), I just shrug and say, “that’s racin.”
I may be in the minority of “old time fans,” but I actually like the new NASCAR, even though I am well aware of the problems facing the sport. It is too bad so many can’t see past the negatives to the fun and entertainment that racing still brings. The sport is certainly about more than just one man (Dale St.) and one family (anybody named Earnhardt).

Hello Greg,
You asked that we share why we are a NASCAR fan, well I will tell you why I’m one. I grew up tagging along with my dad to every ASA track around WI. I’m talking serious follower of Dick Trickle, we know the family and everything. We followed him to OH, IN, MO, KS, IL and of course all the tracks in WI. It was one way to be with my dad, but I became a die hard fan. Then one day, A guy by the name of Dale Earnhardt showed up with Rusty Wallace and I think Daryl Waltrip. Well I absolutely loved Earnhardt’s tenacity.
I really wanted to be a driver, but my dad would just laugh at me. Anyway, when I got married and had kids, we would go to Darlington, Rockingham, etc. My oldest son shared my passion for racing. Well, along comes Jr. in the Bush series and he just pulled at my heart strings. It was clearly noticeable that he idolized his dad. What a wonder character he had, as he has grown up I am like a proud parent that is so proud the way he has stayed grounded, all around nice guy. My oldest and I share our passion for Jr., no matter what we stick with him, he’s almost like family. We watched him loose his father, leave his father’s company, join Hendrick’s. We have seen him win and loose. There is nothing better for a Jr. fan than to see that man smile. I’m telling you we all feel very close to Jr., probably to close for his liking. We all would like to meet him in person, talk to him, share things with him. If you don’t believe me, just go to the dalejrpitstop.com and see the passion we all share. That’s another thing about Jr., he brings people together, I know people from NY, IL, WI, IN, NC, SC that I would not have know if it wasn’t for Jr. and our websites. I have even met up with some several times at races. Jr’s pull is that he acts like your average next-door neighbor even though his is a millionaire. My husband gave up on NASCAR when Sr. died. That’s unfortunate, because I know that’s not what Sr. would have wanted. That man loved racing. One more comment, I know the last race we kind of saw Jr. out of character a little bit but I for one loved it because it shows his passion is coming back. He’s kind of lacked that luster lately. He was really excited to be doing so well at the end of the race. I haven’t heard him say, “don’t change anything” in a long time. Then Reutimann, comes along, because he doesn’t know how to drive, and goes up into him. Sure he has a right to race his car, but here’s the difference between him and Jr., Jr. would have slowed down to a speed that he could handle his car. We know he was terrible loose because he made a comment to his crew chief about it. Anyway, he’s a nice guy and all, Jr. fans are just upset with him, we’ll get over it. We are just passionate about our Jr. and we can’t wait to see him win. Well thank you for your time. Take care and God Bless!
Always a Jr. fan

I first started watching bits and pieces of the Cup races in the late 90′s when my husband started watching occasionally. That black #3 caught my attention quickly and I found myself silently routing for him cause it seemed like my husband cursed him alot. He was a Rusty fan and thought that Sr. was too aggressive. I was drawn to it and that was the beginning of my fascination with NASCAR. Then I started hearing about Dale Jr and when he started in Cup and drove that beautiful #8 I was hooked for good. I loved both of the Earnhardts and that was that. I didn’t care which one won as long as one of the did. I was devestated when Sr was killed in 2001 and my fan devotion went forever to Dale Jr. I am now a proud member of Jr Nation and I don’t route for him silently. I am heard loud and clear even if my husband protests it. Dale Jr is what keeps me following the sport and I hope that someday I can meet him and get his autograph in person.

I was born the same month and year as NASCAR so I think it was fate. As a 61 year old grandmother, I can proudly say that I’ve been a fan since I was 14 years old. Back in the day, up in Michigan, you couldn’t even watch the races every week, but I loved the local tracks and read all the articles about NASCAR and the race results. It was a great day when we got to watch the Daytona 500 live for the first time! From just reading about Dale Earnhardt, I decided I didn’t like him. As soon as I got to SEE him race, I was a convert. The way THE MAN could handle a car was breathtaking.
My first time to see a race in person was the Phoenix race in the fall of 2000. Got to see Dale race! Already had tickets for Vegas in March of 2001. We all know what happened in Feb. 2001. We went to Vegas, but it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I still only wear #3 gear at the track and off. My house is decorated in Dale and the license plate on my car is 3RULED. I stuck with NASCAR for Dale, not Jr. I have become a fan of racing, much more than just following one driver during the whole race and it has allowed me to see a lot more exciting racing. I won’t root for anything Hendricks, but I’m good with anyone else winning.
I have done 6 laps around Atlanta Speedway in the Petty Ride Along and absolutely LOVED IT! All my grandkids get 6 laps for their 14th BD present from me. My retirement present to myself was for “Momma and the boys” to go to the night race at Bristol in 2006. My two sons and I had a great time.
My goal is to see a race at every track. I missed Rockingham, but my son made it there for the last race. I’m up to 9 now so I’ve got a ways to go. A task I am looking forward to.
I get claustrophobic in a mall with a bunch of people, but I can stand elbow to elbow with 160,000 of my NASCAR friends and feel absolutely great. Whether it’s holding my breath as I watch 43 talented drivers run inches apart at Dega or cheering for the great racing at Bristol or Darlington, I will be a fan forever AND BEYOND. My kids have orders to scatter my ashes at Dega. For eternity I want to be where I was the happiest and the most peaceful. Yes, peaceful at Dega. It’s the BEST.
