Amp Energy 500 — Have Your Say

At least there was no controversy in Sunday’s Amp Energy 500 at Talladega — except for a few issues, namely:

  1. Did Regan Smith go below the yellow line to pass Tony Stewart, or did Smoke force him down there?
  2. Was Carl Edwards paying attention in the driver’s meeting when NASCAR mandated that driver’s not practice bump drafting in the turns and the dogleg?
  3. How many times can the TV broadcast crew cover for NASCAR and Goodyear for using a tire that simply explodes like a bomb with no warning? After all, NASCAR will throw a caution for debris in a heartbeat. If there was really something on the track that these drivers kept running over, don’t you think there would be a caution.
  4. Will NASCAR issue a formal Supreme Court ruling type of explanation as to why Regan Smith actually finished 18th — and did not win the race?

Other than that — I thought it was one of the best Talladega races I have seen in a while. Tell Teresa Earnhardt not to turn off the lights at DEI just yet.

So go ahead and hit your keyboards right now and tell everyone what you really thought about Talladega.

  2. I don’t think Tony pushed Smith down there. I think Smith was going for the win because he’s hungry for his first, but I do not think he was pushed. If he wanted to go for the pass, he should have went to the high side like he originally looked like he was going.

As far as Carl Edwards, that was a huge mistake that took out some great drivers from today’s race. For the most part, you can say “that’s just racing”. However, Carl is always the one preaching about how he stays in the back at Talladega so he can stay away from everyone. Great job Carl – now you took out some great contenders.

  4. Everything you commented on changed the entire purpose of a good race, all I saw were a bunch of idiots acting like they knew what they were doing, anyone and I mean myself included had a chance to win this disgusting excuse for a race, no talent no purpose, poor judgments, and lots of empty seats! The COT has ruined any form of talent driven ability. As once said Baboon could win and NASCAR has become one.

  8. let me tell you what i think! if someone forces you down below the yellow, and you are not allowed to past, and if it is reversed and you forced someone down you get penilized, it is real confussing to what the rule is because Smoke FORCED REGAN down and should have been penilized whatever Nascar’ penilty is he Smoke” should not been allowed to force Regan down very unfair Nascar then put Regan in 18 th .???? Nascar you are getting to pulitical and assinine, unfair to the REAL NASCAR what it use to be Nascar is getting to SUCK

  10. A rule is a rule. If you are forced below the yellow line and you move up a position you keep the position on the final lap. Nascar is at it’t same old tricks of who they want to win. I hope Regan Smith challenges this call. Fair is fair. He was definately pushed be low the yellow line.

  11. annie on
  12. why don`t nascar just say who won a race and let people stay home andsave the gas .they told all thought the race you couldn`t pass below yellow line unless you was forced . change the rules on the last lap nascar change rule for differnt folks

Sure Smoke forced him down there…he was the leader of the race and it’s his race track. His move to the inside was not an abrupt block, but a continuation of running the low groove which was certainly his perogative as the leader. You go Tony!

  13. Joe on
  14. It was one of the best races ever at Talladega. There sure were some tire issues though. Smith knew he could not go down there and he did it any way knowing he would say he got pushed down. Well NASCAR saw through that story and gave the win to the correct driver. good job Tony!

  15. marcel on
  16. As I see it Regan won the race. He got pushed below the yellow line, no mistake. For 20 who to win is a discrasse to nascar, things might of had a different outcome if it not had of been (tony who)As for Carl, every driver out there was bump drafting, Carl made a good move, it just did not work out. That is the type of racing I want to see.

  18. I think it was a good race but someone should hang Carl Edwards is an idiot. The past 2 weeks he has made bone head moves this time it cost a lot of drivers a good finishing spot.

  20. Regan Smith won the race. That’s that, and that’s that!!! Carl admitted his mistake, and apologized. It was a real shame—

  22. I lost interest and didn’t really pay much attention after Dale Jr. wrecked.

At least Carl Edwards admitted that he caused the big wreck; I could name some other drivers who would not take the blame.

Something needs to be done about the tire issues. It is dangerous.

I can’t really say whether Regan Smith went below the yellow line on his own or was forced down there since I wasn’t paying attention. I heard them say that Stewart forced him below the line in which case he should have been given the win. I do not understand why they placed him 18th; that is totally unfair. Anyway, I was not happy to see a Gibbs car win; I do not like the Gibbs drivers.

  24. ALL IN ALL IT WAS A GOOD RACE.. GOODYEAR ISNT THE PROBLEM.. THE PROBLEM IS C O T … THE CAR ITSELF.. LOOK AT THE WAY THE CAR IS DESIGNED.. IF YOU STRAIGHTEN THE REAR AXLE ASSY, INSTEAD OF CHANGEING THE ALIGNMENT.. I GUESS WHAT IN SAYING IS PUT IT BACK TO ZERO YOU WONT OVER HEAT THE TIRE TO BLOW THE SIDEWALLS OUT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR.. REMEMBER CENTRIFICAL FORCE GUYS.. ALL THE WEIGHT IS ON THOSE TIRES AND ADDING THE 2 -4 DEGREES ON NEGATIVE TOE YOURE KILLING THE TIRE..

  34. IMO Regan got screwd, he should of won that race, he was forced down below the yellow line, if the situation was reversed and Tony was forced down there, they would of given Tony the win. As for DEI, don’t get too excited, they always do well at the super speedways, lets see how the do in the next few races, I can guarantee you it won’t be 2,3,4 or wherever Reagan ended up finishing. Lastly, I appreciate Carl admitting he was wrong, not many drivers besides Jr and Burton do, but that still was a bonehead move, and it took the championship hopes away from some of the chase drivers that got caught up in it and that just sucks!!

  36. I’m sorry but JR had the winning car until
carl edwards screwed it up. Edwards does’nt know how to bump draft so he should not have tryed and wrecked almost half the field.

    Steward.

  38. FIRST OF ALL I, LOVE NASCAR RACING , BUT TO A FAN, AFTER WATCHING 3 HOURS OF RACING AND ROOTING FOR YOUR FAVORITE DRIVER AND THEN WITH 15-20 LAPS TO GO , SOME BONEHEAD POWER BUMPS SOMEONE IN A CORNER TURN AND WIPES OUT 10 CARS AT A COST OF PROBABLY $250,000. THOUSAND DOLLARS OR MORE IN REPAIRS , AND THEN SOME FAT SLOB WHO HAS BECOME TOO HEAVY TO CLIMB FENCES ANYMORE AND HAS BEEN RIDING AROUND ALL DAY JUST SIGHTSEEING , FORCES A FASTER CAR OFF THE TRACK IN THE FINAL CORNER AND GOES ON TO WIN THE RACE . WHAT A JOKE . VERY SELDOM DOES THE FASTEST CAR AND THE BEST DRIVER WIN A RACE ANYMORE . IT IS TERRIBLE WHEN THE DRIVERS ADMIT THAT THEY SIT IN THE BACK OF THE PACK AND DON’T RACE HARD UNTIL TOWARD THE END OF THE RACE SO THAT THEY DON’T GET IN THE MIDDLE OF ANY CRASHES . THAT IS NOT WHAT PEOPLE PAY TO SEE . CAN YOU IMAGINE ANOTHER SPORT WHERE A PROFFESIONAL ATHLETE SAYS HE OR SHE DOESN’T REALLY START PLAYING HARD UNTIL THE END OF THE GAME ?????? COME ON NASCAR LETS GET IT RIGHT …. YOUR FANS DESERVE IT …..

  40. Tony was leading the race; Regan knew that he was not supposed to pass UNDER the yellow line, so he should not have even been DOWN CLOSE enough for this kind of controversy to occur on the last lap. He is a rookie who needs to pay more attention in the drivers meetings; the rule has been in place ALL season, not just for this race-NO passing under the yellow to advance positions. Smoke was only GUARDING HIS position-HE was not the one below the yellow. Get over it people;some of you are only mad because Jr. didn’t win. Blame that one on Carl and give Tony some respect.

  41. Bill on
  42. All I can say is BULLS–T,Stewart forced him down the track,I’ll bet if it was the other way around, they would say he was forced down and that would be the end of it,typical NASCAR
Stewart didn’t deserve the win,but NASCAR didn’t want to here him CRY how he got screwed.

  43. John on
  44. The pass should have stood. Tony was blocking when he(Smith) faked to the right and then dove to the left Smoke then pushed him below the line. IF PEOPLE DIDN’T SEE THAT you have never been around RACING or else I will loan them my GLASSES.

In my opinion Regan Smith should have passed Stewart on the high side — or when Tony tried to block him Smith should have given him the chrome horn.

I’m just glad I wasn’t in John Darby and Mike Helton’s shoes when that decision had to be made.

It was a no win decision for NASCAR.

  48. Next May when NASCAR returns to Talladega they should mandate that each car have their manufacturers 4 cyl engine with no modifications and see if they can run 500 miles without doing several million dollars worth of damage to the cars, the track and of course drivers.
When NASCAR came up with restrictor plates they did more damage to racing than anything they ever added to the supposedly rule book that gets changed each race.
As for Regan Smith it was ruled he passed below the yellow line and was sent to the end of the lead lap cars..

  49. #88fan2 on
  50. i dont think that regan was forced below the line cause he was already below it before he even went for the pass on tony all tony was doing was staying in his groove that he had been running since he took the lead. there is just alot of people out there that dont like tony and they are just upset that he got the win. i think he deserved if. and as far as edwards atleast he will say he is sorry when he knows that he made a mistake there some drivers that want admit to there faults and really try to blame it on someone else.

  52. Hey Carl, nice job, admitting it, doesn’t make it OK,learn when and how to bump draft, nice
    smirk on the interview……Jerk

  53. The AnonymousOne on
  54. IMHO Carl Edwards is a real jerk. He needs to sit out for a couple of races, and the second runner up is his car owner Roush. Both of them seemed only concerned with the drivers and cars from Roush Racing. Yeah guys we know it was a stupid mistake and that Edwards was to blame but they could show a little compassion and say something to the effect of “No drivers were hurt which we can be thankful for,” but nope not those two conceited idiots. Both driver and owner were worried about what came out of the Roush Stables. And I will bet dollars to donuts that if the shoe were on the other foot you can bet your money Roush would be crying to NASCAR and chewing up a storm on live TV about it.

I personally am not a Tony Stewart fan but I was watching that race so close that an ant could not have come between us .regan started up high then went low ,below the yellow line,Tony was protecting his position and did not go below the yellow line.Regan was not forced down but went there on is own .Sorry folks I love DEI only because of the late great Dale Earnhardt Sr but right’s right and wrong is wrong just glad Tony had the better sence than to try and climb the fence at Dega he is not liked here might not have beena pretty picture .Jr would have won this race if it had not been for the bone headed move by Carl but at least he was man enough to admit is was his fault unlike a lot of other’s who would have blamed it on something or someone else

  70. Forget what was and was not right in this race. The question is when is NASCAR management going to pull their heads out and get rid of restrictor plates? If they want to slow the cars down, there are plenty of way to do it other then restricting the flow of air to reduce power. I am sick of seeing this type of race every time they are at the best tracks on the circut! It used to be fun to watch Daytonea and Talladaga. Although I watched this race I have not and will not go out of my way to watch these races. Maybe this is why NASCAR had to get funds from the taxpayers. They no longer know how to attract fans and do not know how to run the business. In addition to getting rid of restrictor plates they need to get rid of the COT and let these drivers race and fight it out. They are turning this sport into a sissy event!

  71. bubba on
  72. Hey Steve! Your are exactly right. Let these guys race. If they don’t it will be bad for the sport.

  74. I was really disappointed with only 14 laps to go that Carl Edwards tried something totaly unfamiliar thus really hurting other chasers and probably a win for Dale, Jr. It was clear to me that JR was the best out there today and should have won the race and I believe he would have had it not been for Edwards. Also, I wish NASCAR would make their rules apply to all in all situations. Some will disagree but I truly believe Stewart did force Smith below the yellow line and I agree with a previous comment that NASCAR did not want to see another temper tantrum from Stewart. I used to like Tony but it appears that Kyle Busch’s whining has rubbed off on him a little.

Also, did anyone hear if Denny Hamlin is okay.
Last I heard they had transported him to a hospital for further evaluation. I’m not a #11 fan but I don’t want to see any of these guys hurt.

  76. I’m sick of this COT crap. Let’s go back to ‘stock’ cars, and let ‘em rip! As stated..when your points leader hides in the back for 7/8 of a race..it ain’t a race. Far as the finish…Tony won. Smith was all over the place making up his mind where he wanted to attack..including below the line… before they ever made contact. Any driver could do that every week if it was legal. Not sure about the 18th spot, but that’s another issue. Once a governing body gets involved in ANYTHING besides governing, it goes to $&%t. I’ve been a race fan for over 40 years, and I’m bored with NASCAR anymore! I’d rather watch a Shirley Temple movie..more exciting!

  78. I understand you all have favorite drivers,I have watch nascar for some 25 years, did some open wheel and stock car racing in the 65 to mid 70 . Regan won the race,or if the next race a car is leading and second place gets in the inside of him just squeeze him below the line.I dont call that racing. As for Carl he admitted he made a move that did not work. He is one of the most challenging and smart drivers out there and admits to his mistakes

  79. Greg on
  80. I like Tony and don’t care for Smith but if you look at the replay you will see Smith was under him and not on the line. Tony came down and forced him below the line as much as I hate to say it and Smith should not be all the way back in 18th place. Where did that number come from? As for Carl, well I like Carl too but he got greedy and mad a rookie mistake, end of subject. As for Goodyear, they cost a lot of owners a lot of money and a lot of drivers a lot of points.

  82. I am a Jeff Gordon fan so I don’t really care
BUT I have watched the replay about 6 times.
Stewart’s left back fender hits Smiths right
front fender and forces him below the line.
Also the rule states you can go below the line on the last lap if you can see the start, finish line. He could. Nascar blew this one.

  83. HELEN on
  84. WELL,IN MY OPINION I DO THINK TONY FORCED REGAN DOWN KNOWING THAT HE COULDN’T PASS HIM BELOW THE YELLOW LINE BUT REGAN SEEM TO THINK IT WAS OK IF IT WAS THE LAST LAP SO I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT’S RIGHT OR WRONG CAUSE NASCAR MAKES IT UP AS THEY GO!!
AS FOR CARL WELL HE NEEDS TO TAKE LESSONS FROM DALE JR ON HOW TO DRAFT CORRECTLY….HE MORE THAN
LIKELY KEPT JR FROM WINNING BUT WE WILL NEVER KNOW NOW!!
AND THE TIRE ISSUE I KNEW WAS GOING TO BE A PROBLEM WHEN I WATCHED THE ARCA AND TRUCK RACE
WITH ALL THE BLOW OUTS I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG AND JUST KEPT HOLDING MY BREATH HOPING JR WOULDN’T HAVE ONE!!
THE ONLY REASON REGAN FINISHED WHERE HE DID WAS BECAUSE NASCAR PENALIZED HIM FOR PASSING BELOW THE YELLOW LINE!!
I’M STILL PROUD OF DALE JR TODAY HE DID A GREAT JOB AS USUAL AT DEGA HE LEARNED FROM THE MASTER DALE SR. :)

  92. I watched the reruns several times, and what I saw was Smiths right front corner against Stewarts left rear corner, now if that is forcing someone below the line well I guess you might as well just remove the yellow line. Smith took a chance and it didn’t work. Good

Someone said it right, Nascar didn’t want to see Stewart throw another Tantrum. I say Let him throw his Tantrum’s and give the race to Smith. Sure, Smith was eager to get his first win and no one can blame him for it. When they anounced Stewart won, I turned my TV to another channel. I saw the repeat, and Smith was FORCED below the yellow line.
Just a Quick message to Nascar, GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF THE SAND AND QUIT BEING PARTIAL!!! Listen to the fans, you’re loosing them right and left. 102. I watched the repay over and over on my DVR, and Tony definitely forced Smith below the line. Those that say that Tony was just following his line have their heads up their rears. Tony blocked high when Smith faked high, and then Tony cut hard low to block when Smith when that way. Smith had his bumper inside of Tony while he was still totally above the line, yet Smoke kept going low. Smith had three choices (1) Brake (and cause a wreck), (2) Hit Tony (and cause a wreck), or (3) Go below the line. He did the right thing, even according to the rules. Instead of winning (or even getting 2nd), he gets 18th? Now I know why I don’t watch much anymore. First COT carp, then blown tires, and now this?

  103. Rose M. on
  104. I am so elated that my favorite driver had won:-} It was either going to be Stewart or Jr.
I am truly sorry Jr. was caught up in that wreck. Carl was sincere about his apology, now he has to deal with the drivers’. I don’t think that what we say here means as much or will even hurt as much as the ” In Your Face”
communications for the rest of the season.

  105. bob on
  106. It is this siomple. Tony blocked him. Smith could have either gone high to pass, push Tony out of the way to pass or go low below the yellow line and break the rules thereby losing the race. Oh yeah, he could have stayed where he was and gotten second place. Way to go Tony. I don’t understand the idiots that think Regan should be the winner. Tony did not push him – it is called blocking. Regan should have treated the yellow line as if it were a concrete wall. So the way I see it, he most likely would not have been stupid enough to drive into a wall. He lost fair and square so anyone who disagrees with that is as dumb as he was. When Jr passed on the wrong side a few weeks ago, Nascar did let him keep the advantage he got by doing so and nobody got in an uproar over that. Whether you want to hear it or not, that was a dumb move on Jr’s part and I am a Jr fan. So learn that the drivers have to drive according to the rules or suffer the consequences.

  107. a.b. on
  108. Smoke forced Smith down below the yellow line, as he was going for the pass. As for Edwards, he is beginning to be a crybaby like Busch. He can dish the heat out, but can’t take the heat when someone else gives it back to him.

I wish NASCAR would go back to the old ways. The races & the Chase all “SUCK” anymore. NASCAR just isn’t fun to watch anymore. People are right, NASCAR picks who they want to win at these races. Espically, on this last race.

  109. RJ on
  110. To all you moaners out there. (1) The aerodynamic shape of the vehicles makes it necessary to restrict their speed or they will flip over when too much air gets underneath, even with the cowl and roof flaps. The easiest certifiable way is the restrictor plate. (2) The last time I checked, the only people allowed to buy/own a complete rule book are the owners and team members. (3) I reviewed the finish line film a half dozen times, and the 20 did not push the 01 below the yellow line. The twenty was the leader held his race line. The 01 first went high and then dropped to the low side, but there was not enough space between the 20 and the yellow line for the 01 to fit into and pass without crossing below the yellow line. What should the 20 have done, changed his line and drifted up to make room so the 01 could pass? It’s cut and dry. That is not forcing someone below the line.

  114. If the tires were the issue than why did they have so many blowouts in the ARCA race? They were running on Hoosiers. If it is the COT then I would ask the same question. ARCA is running the old car and had far more blowouts on Friday than they had on Sunday.

  120. I thought this race sux. It was one of the worst races this year. They need to do something about these pathetic tires annd carl needs to practice more video games to learn how to bump draft. This race killed e in my fantasy league.

  121. "Smoke" fan on
  122. Ity surely was one of the best races I have seen at Talladega. The announcers said after the race that the “rule of thumb” that NASCAR uses to determine whether someone was forced below the line is where the passing car was, i.e., was he to the left rear wheel, which is NASCAR’s mark. He clearly was not. It’s too bad for him, but he should have continued to the outside as he started. As for Edwards, he took the blame for the wreck, to which I say it is a commendable thing.

I agree with Marie. I was there, watched the replay co many times that my eyes hurt, and Smith was NOT forced below the line. He was already there when he started the pass. If you read the morning papers, you will understand why he went down there. The issue was discussed in the truck drivers meeting on Saturday, and in the trucks, it is legal. No one asked on Sunday, so he was remembering the truck meeting and thought he was legal. I understand his reasoning, but the rule has been there for the Big Boys for 6 or 7 years. Maybe before Smith gets too upset, he might consider reading the rule book. Otherwise, I fully understand his thinking. Carl was just helping his team mate, and pushed too hard. He even admitted it. Move on to next week!

  123. Eddie on
  124. I have to agree with you 100%. Watching the slow-mo playback, Regan was definitely forced down and Smoke even admitted it in so many words. Wonder what NASCAR’s decision would have been had Regan been Gordon or one of the other superstars? As far as NASCAR, I don’t watch races much any more. Since the plates came into use, why waste my time watching two lines of cars running side by side lap after lap. Take a long break, come back into the room and they’re still side by side. BORING!!!!! Hey NASCAR. Bring back REAL racing and get rid of the damned plates for good!

  125. Marilynn on
  126. I think Tony definetly forced Smith below the yellow line, especially since he admitted that was what he had done. Guess they didn’t want Smith to win. He should have at least gotten second.

As for Carl, yeah, he should have paid attention in the drivers meeting or else he needs to learn how to bump draft. He took out quite a few chase drivers, not to mention Dale Jr. I guess maybe I wouldn’t be so upset if it hadn’t taken out Dale. I guess we just have to move on to Charlotte. Go Dale!

  127. Nikki on
  128. I agree Carl Edwards needs to be taken out behind the wood shed and have to pick his own switch after that race. Did we learn nothing from Earnhardt’s Death? He got bumped in the turn. Nascar tells them time after time you do not bump in the turns. I think Carl needs to go back to class and relearn the rules.

He didnt blame goodyear for all the tire issues, he said it was a combination of the new car and the surface of the track. He was the only driver that didnt b*@#%. And anotheer great coment he said is that someone needs to teach people on how to bump draft, some of us know how to do it good and have fun with it. Dale jr’s the good one and people like carl edwards and even jeff burtan are the ones that need some schooling. I could count a dozen times that burtan got behinde jr and hit him to hard to the point where jr had to step out of his groove. And the whole leaving johnson behinde, jimmie’s done to jr several times. And jr did his spotter that he felt bad and he was going to help jimmie when carl edwards went stupid. And the stewart thing, everyones right when they say that nascar picked tony stewart to win so they didnt hear or see him cry.

If you are a nascar fan and you post a comment, why can’t you go by the nascar rules and why not to settle the case post the nascar rule on this incindent.

  134. regan smith won the race!I have been going to the nascar races since, back in the 60″s, but have stopped going to all of them except, bristol! nascar sucks on their rulings! If you are not a big name or sponsor,FORGET, ABOUT A FAIR RULE!
HOUTY DOOTY, needs to learn how to bump draft, if he thinks, he is one of the big boys!!! matt, should have went over and punched, him in his grinnig mouth, and the rest of the chasers, he took out, should take him out,of the next races.!!!1 nascar races are a waste of time to watch, much less, go pay the big bucks to see one! NOT RENEWING my bristol ticks this year!!!!

Like Smith said, He thought it was ok to pass below the yellow line on the last lap.
    “…anything goes…” Remember?
    Sorry Snuffy.

  136. I sure hate to see a Foreign car win a race in NASCAR or any other kind of race, BUT RS did go below the line to pass and I don’t think he was forced down there by Tony Stewart or any one else. He simply drove down there to win the race, and he lost the race because of it. I am not a fan of Tony Stewart, so this is with regret that I have to stick up for him, right is right, and Tony and NASCAR are right on this one.

  137. John Koziol on
  138. Tony knew exactly what he was doing. He saw the 01 going low and slid down forcing him under the yellow line. NASCAR made a bad call saying the 20 won. Follow your own rules or toss out the book!!!

  139. joe on
  140. regan got robbed toney knew he was getting beat so he forced him below to win. he has to cheat like that he isn’t so great a driver like he used to be

  142. i think everyone is right when they say that nascar picked tony stewart to win so they didnt have to hear him cry like the fat chick he is but i think its crap that regan smith was placed 18th when he had no choice to go below the yellow line. he should of won the race or been at least seconde.about the tire situation, Dale jr said it best. he didnt blame goodyear for evrything he said he thinks it was a combination of the new car and the track surface. and once again, Dale jr said it right about the bump drafting too. “some of us know how to do the bump draft real good and have fun doing it. but others out there hit you hard and that helps nothing and nobody. some people need to be tought how to do it.” he’s right and carl edwards needs to be schooled. he made a rookie(which he’s not) mistake and cost a lot of chase drivers the oppertunity to move up in the points. and he cost Dale jr the race, cause everyone knows he had the car and the drive to win that race.

  144. I am talking about TS….he did force him down below the line, you need to watch the replay

I love Tony Stewart, but fair is fair, he pushed Regan Smith below the line. Then to top it off, Nascar put Regan in 18th place, that is totally unfair. I’ve been going to and watching races since the l960′s, Nascar is beginning to be a joke. Let these boys race, that’s what the fans pay their hard earned money to see, not who and how Nascar wants to win. As far as Carl Edwards, he’s just a bone head, Nascars little precious one. Jimmie Johnson is in the lead right now in points but Nascar will somehow fix it so Carl Edwards will win the championship, you can bet on it. Nascar is nothing like “Big Bill France” intended for it to be. If Dale Sr. was still around, you can bet things would be different.

I THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD RACE. I’M SORRY JR. DIDN’T WIN BUT AS A NASCAR FUN IT WAS A FUN RACE.
THAT IS THE MOST ACTION WE HAVE SEEN ALL YEAR
JUST REMEMBER NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS WORLD GOD IS IN CHARGE

  145. BJ on
  146. Quite frankly, I believe rules are rules and the drivers all know, or should know, what these rules are. Tony definitely won the race. Regan faked going to the high side thinking Tony would try to block Tony. When that didn’t work he dropped below Tony. He shot down below Smoke and crossed over the yellow line. Unfortunately it backfired on Regan. Smoke did not force him down and Regan knew better. Some of you people need to read the rules.

As for Carl Edwards – - it was commendable that he apologized for his error. But I definitely believe he should have been drafting with the rest of them. He needed to to get the feel of the track in a draft and get the feel for what others were doing and learn from it. Maybe he thought he would sit back and let the others wreck each other so he could have a clear shot. Perhaps he’s not a good drafter. Who knows?! Tough break!

  154. Carl Edwards has made dumb moves in the last 2 races. last lap pass of Jimmy Johnson week before when he said he knew he was gonna hit the wall. NASCAR should of set him down a race, for those comments.

  156. Best race in a long while. I was glued to the TV all afternoon. I was really glad that Tony won the race but I think Junior was running the best of all of them up until the wreck…thanks Carl!!!!!!

  157. e3fan98 on
  158. Sure rules are rules but when Nascar puts out a different interpertation each time an issue arises those people need to be replaced. The 20 car was desperate for a win at that track so it was come down on Smith and push him out or loose.

But in getting back to the race itself, it was not a race it was a kids game of leap frog. No one could hold the lead for any length of time because the cars are all built the same with close power plants so Nascar racing has become a game of luck. The racing talent of the drivers and the teamwork of the crew is left to luck not talent. So much for RACING a stock car, might just a well use riding lawnmowers for much less cost.
Another thing that is destroying Nascar racing is the junk that Goodyear is supplying the teams. How many “races” have been wasted with BAD tires. You never hear of tire problems with Indy car or Formula 1. Time to get rid of Goodyear, they been on the breast to long.

  162. It was a great race even though my driver got crashed by Carl Edwards. My complaint about this race is the ABC camera work stunk! It was too far away and we could not even pick out the car numbers on the track. We like to watch the race not the trailer up on the top of the screen

  163. WAYNE on
  164. Carl Edwards caused the wreck with 15 to go that caused Biffle to take out Dale Jr who was on the move to win the race, true Smoke forced Regan down the yellow line and should have the win taken from him but again Dale Jr would have won if it had not been for Biffle and Carl Edwards who should be docked Championship Points

  165. Go88in2008 on
  166. It was a really good race until Junior crashed! Some drivers will never learn how to bump draft so you will keep seeing the “the big one”. Regan Smith was appropriately put in 18th place. If you can’t pass on the apron the whole race, why would they allow it on the last lap! Still really disappointed Junior didn’t get a better finish. He had such a good car and nobody drives the restrictor plate races better .

  167. Kathy on
  168. Tony forced Regan down below the yellow line,
Regan should have stood his ground and wrecked
Tony, caused a big wreck on the final lap, maybe
nascar officials would have been more happy with
that. They should have at least given him second.
18th is crazy. Carl Edwards took a lot of drivers out of the chase. Stupid move. Some will
never learn when to bump draft and when not to.

  169. Shannon on
  170. Ok the way I see it, Smith won the race….PERIOD..And Carl Edwards is an idiot…. PERIOD!!! It really sucks being a fan and seeing your driver drive is a$$ off all race to get up front and try to win the race while racing CLEAN, and then some idiot who doesn’t know how to bump draft makes a bonehead move and takes him out..Yes I am 100% Dale Jr and Carl Edwards screwed him out of a win (because we all know Jr had that race) BUT I feel like he screwed him out of his chance at the cup. I honestly hope that since it appears Jr is too far back to get the cup that Jimmie Johnson keeps going and kicks Carls a$$ and gets the championship. Just remember Carl, payback from Jr is h3ll, ask kb how it feels..LOL….Thanks Carl for screwing Jr over when u weren’t even running well..Maybe u should sit out a few races and let the pros show u how to bump draft!!!!!

well i spent alot of money to go to dega and see the race but i wont do it again, first the pit pass is a joke.then too many cautions, then junior gets taken out.along with some really great cars, hten regan smith gets cheated because hes a rookie ,if he would have been an established driver,he would have had the win,not that i dont like stewart because i do but that race was the worst ive seen in a while…ill just keep my money in my pocket next time,,,

“Smoke” is one of the greatest drivers ever. He does have an attitude sometimes, but everybody does. He deserved this win, I think
Smith went below the yellow line without being
    forced. Congrats, Smoke!!!!!
Hamlin is also a favorite of mine and I surely
hope he is okay, that was a hard hit and I’m
glad he got out on his own. I hope he didn’t
break a leg or a foot. Keep up the good work
    Smoke and Denny.

  176. If you read todays Nascar .com. you will see where Polston a nascar spokesman said if you see the flag man you can pass below on last lap. Darby said no. ? whoes rite there both Nascar officials.

  178. If you watched the news you will see where Tony was asked if he pushed Smith below the line and he said I SURE DID. So nascar made a big mistake on that call.As for pekkerhead Edwards he did not want to see the real winner win the race which we all know it was DALE JR.

  179. tom on
  180. I really beleive that smith was forced down below the line. Take a look at tonys drivers side rear bumper and see the cave in. Too many people walk around with blinders on and cant admit the truth. I watched the whole race and didnt so where tony could have gotten the dent other than on the last lap to the checkered. A gentleman at kansas speedway told us about the new Ernhart rule which changed after he passed the pace car last year under caution to others is clearly a penality. Nowthe rules change again. I have been a nascar fan going way back to richard Petty days. Now that i can afford to go to many races it is no fun anymore because it is not real racing at all like in the 60s.
