Jeff Gordon Wins Texas
Jeff Gordon Finally Victorious at Texas
Jeff Gordon broke a 47 race winless streak Sunday by winning the Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway
“This is the best place we possibly could have won, because it’s eluded us for so long,” said Gordon. Until today Gordon was also winless at Texas. There is only one track remaining that Gordon has never won at – Florida’s Homestead Miami Speedway.
The win puts Gordon at No. 6 on NASCAR’s all time win list.
“It feels like the very first time I’ve ever won. It’s been a long streak,” said Gordon.
Kyle Roughs Up Junior
Jeff Gordon was trailing leader Dale Earnhardt Jr when the race was restarted on lap 259 with 75 to go. Kyle Busch was 2 laps down when he got lose and sent Earnhardt up the racetrack and allowed Gordon to pass Junior.
“I saw Kyle go three wide in Turn 1 and make a gutsy move. He was pretty desperate at that point, said Gordon. “So Junior got shoved up there and just took him a while to recover. It was a big moment that I thought we were going to have a heck of a wreck.”
LeTarte’s Job Safe
Last year Jeff Gordon’s fans were calling for crew chief Steve LeTarte’s replacement. Now that Gordon and LeTarte are leading the points and have won a race LeTarte’s job looks pretty secure. “That’s why you work seven days a week all winter,” said Steve LeTarte. The first 300 laps are fun but there’s nothing like the last pit stop or last adjustment. That’s why I race.”
Gordon was asked what it was like to finally drive to Victory Lane at Texas.”It was the coolest, Jeff Gordon said with a smile. “I’m telling you, it’s like winning for the very first time. All those emotions and excitement.”
Jeff Gordon’s core fans are happy to see him back in Victory Lane. This win was a long time coming. What do you think about that race and Gordon’s win?
