Steve Letarte is Dale Earnhardt Jr’s New Crew Chief
Steve Latarte will be the crew chief on Dale Earnhardt Jr’s No. 88 car in 2011. Letarte previously served as Jeff Gordon’s crew chief.
The No. 88 team will be moving to the 24 /48 shop at Hendrick Motorsports — the same building where 5 time champion Jimmie Johnson’s cars are prepered. That building will now be known as the 48 / 88 shop.
Lance McGrew will be Mark Martin’s crew chief in 2011, and Alan Gustafson will head up Jeff Gordon’s team.
Whatever you think about this you can no longer say Rick Hendrick isn’t providing full support to Dale Jr.
What do you think about this move?

Its about time but I will still take a wait and see stance

I think it’s a good change. I just read Steve’s bio, he has alot of experience.
Plus putting the 88 and 48 team in the same shop could be beneficial.
[Reply]
Positive all around except for poor Mark. The garage change surprised me but for a Junior fan I see it as a positive. Who wouldn’t want to share a garage with a five time champion.
[Reply]
It’s all about Junior being such a loser. Nothing is going to help Junior until he decides to 1st be a race car driver instead of a media personality, mentor (OMG) to Danica, and whatever else he is involved in. He needs to get to having driving being his main focus.

I agree. I think Dale has to many irons and the fire and needs to step back and focus on racing only. Berfore he does that, he needs to bring his girlfriend out in the public and deal with that. He appears to be shy and afraid of what the media will say. His FANS will stand behind him 100% if they’re really a fan. I know it’s been a rough 9yrs for him but he can still win. My heart just breaks for him.
[Reply]
This is just great!! Hendrick takes Steve LeTarte from Jeff Gordon, to place him with Dale Earnhardt, Jr., then moves that “know-nothing idiot” Lance McGrew over to Mark Martin’s car, and Alan Gustafson will then be moved over to Jeff Gordon’s car. Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus are to remain paired up. Talk about ridiculous!! But that’s Hendrick for you!!
[Reply]
IF RICK HENDRICK REALLY WANTS TO GET BEHIND JR HE WILL GIVE THAT TEAM EVERYTHING IT NEEDS. HE WILL SEE TO IT THAT THE 48 AND 88 SHARE ALLVTHEV SETUPS AND ANYTHING THAT WILL MAKE THEM BOTH RUN GOOD WEEK IN AND WEEK OUT AND THE SAME GOES FOR THE 5 AND 24 TOO. TIME WILL TELL WHAT WILL REALLY HAPPEN. RICK TALKS A GOOD GAME BUT HE STILL GAVE THE 48 THE MOST AND IT IS TIME FOR A NEW WINNER! EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT JR BRINGS IN THE $ AND IT IS TIME FOR A LITTLE PAYBACK! JR CAN DRIVE! ALSO EVERYBODY KNOWS NASCAR DID EVERYTHING IN THIER POWER TO SEE TO IT THAT THE 48 WON. NO SURPRISE THERE. MAYBE 2011 WILL BE MORE EXCITING FOR THE FANS AND NASCAR CAN GET THE RATINGS BACK AND THE SEATS FULL AGAIN. UNTILL THEN I WILL STAY HOME AND MAYBE WATCH IT ON TV ……MAYBE. COME ON NASCAR GIVE THE FANS WHAT THEY WANT. AND RICK GIVE JR WHAT HE NEEDS AND STOP GIVING OUT THE LIP SERVICE!

it is about time! after all the profits HMS has gotten from Jr. hmmmm……….. wonder if Jr can “borrow” jimmies pit crew if his has an off day!!!
[Reply]
Yeah… after all… changing crew chiefs worked so well last time… and the time before that and the time before that! Let’s face it people… Junior is not his daddy and is no where near the driver his daddy was. he’s another kyle Petty or Kenny Wallace. not a bad driver… just not as good as everyone wants him to be.
One great thing to come from all the changes is that now Junior fans don’t have that old stand by lie that Junior gets the crappy cars while Johnson gets the good ones. now both Johnson and Junior get the same exact cars from the same exact shop. No more excuses.
[Reply]
how long has it been since gordon has won? at least 2 years i think. i have nothing against steve but i guess time will tell. my guess when kasey khane comes on board lance will go back to r&d and kasey will bring his on crew chief. maybe it will work out i hope so for all partys.
[Reply]
Why do some people continue to state Junior is not his Daddy?
Who ever said he was or even wanted to be. Get a life for gosh sakes.
I for what am glad he is not like Senior. Senior was hated until he died and had to died to get most popular driver.
I feel Junior has the capability to do so much better only time will tell if he will.
I am a ‘Junior’ fan and I do not compare him to anyone.
[Reply]
i agree rita….. the only people i hear say that are the ha$$ers. never have i heard a fan of his say he was his father……. oh well
[Reply]
Am a Junior fan, and a Hendrick motorsport fan as well. Am just glad they got a champion in both shop now, maybe that will help the other driver like Martin and Jr, only time will tell “GO HMS’
[Reply]
I still think they do not have the right one. It needs to be Chad Jimmy. Hadron enough.
[Reply]
I don’t believe it’s accurate to say that Jr and JJ will get the “same exact car.” Their crew chiefs will have their own ideas and you can bet Chad isn’t sharing everything he knows. Who could blame him? We will see if the chemistry is right between LeTarte and Jr. Jr has matured a great deal the last couple of years, and I believe his skills are as good as they ever were. He may not have the recklessness of youth that sometimes allows drivers to get lucky when they take chances, but with a good crew chief he should be able to stay up in the top 10-12 drivers all year and be in a position to be in the chase next year. Don’t expect him to win the chase his first year with a new crew chief, I think that’s pretty unrealistic. To compare any driver in today’s NASCAR Cup series with drivers who were in it before the COT and the new chase format is just not logical. The cars are different, and so are the rules. Jr’s Dad was more of a maverick, probably due to the fact that he had to win in order to feed his family and survive. Jr has never had to support anyone other than himself, most likely. Desperation and survival instincts will drive a person to do things they might not otherwise do. To compare Jr to his Dad is not fair in any sense of the word. How many people who were born after 1950 have the same work ethic as their parents and grandparents? We’ve got it so much easier today than our ancestors, to compare our skills to theirs is just ridiculous.
[Reply]
Junior is a great driver, not an exceptional one, but you know what, neither is Jimmie Johnson. Chad Knauss could chief for Jr and things would be different; that is if Jr would stick to driving instead of trying to crew chief from the driver’s seat. A driver is only as good as his team, particularly his chief. It would be impossible to prove but line up a selection of good drivers of equal ability and the difference would be told in the crew chief. There are/were very few drivers who so outshone their chiefs as to make them almost irrelevant; among them, Dale, Sr., Davey Allison, David Pearson, Tim Richmond and no, Richard Petty is not among them. Having said that, I hope Jr has a hell of a 2011. I hope Steve proves to be everything everyone thinks / thought he is/was. I hope the moves that HMS is making is not just another example of rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
[Reply]
its about time they do something for dale jr.
[Reply]
Glad to see the change, but I’ll take some time to see if it really is the correct move. Not to criticize Steve, but he really doesn’t appear to have done much for Jeff Gordon
[Reply]
Hope this works for Jr. He really deserves better than he has had since he went to Hendricks. Good Luck Jr.
[Reply]
If Steve is such a hot shot cc, how come the 24 hasn’t won for awhile? The good cc is Alan G. Maybe I was wrong, maybe it is the 24 that has been picked for the cup next year. Time will tell, I guess after 3 years of watching my driver being used as a doormat, I will only believe what I see. Time will tell if Jr. is getting full support, the proof is in the pudding as the old saying goes. In other words, when I see results…………
[Reply]
WOW!!! Many great opinions.
Let’s let Dale be Jr. and Sr. in the past.
Mark Martin???? You’re kidding. He’s “RETIRED”, remember. That and a ‘loser.’
Ha. Ha. Jeff Gordon needs some cheese for his ‘whine.’
[Reply]
i for one think that this will be a really good thing. jr. is not a loser and he is not trying to be a star. If you people will think about it. jimmie johnson was the only one that had a good season. now the other three needed a change. jr. now will be with the champ and be in the same building with the 48 and chad and jimmie can help jr. i for one will give them the chance and prove again that they can win. for you miss diane, jr is a great race car driver. if you dont like him go to kyle bush, now thats a real winner.
[Reply]
i think that there was a time for a 3 way change. jimmie is the only one that had a good season. i say give them a chance. diane, for your information jr is not a loser and he will prove that next season. why dont you go to kyle bush not that is a real winner. not
[Reply]
Well h— another crew cheif that nobody wants???? You think JG would have got rid of Steve if he had been doing good and wining races. No…..What needs to happen is Chad needs to come over to Jr for 6 races and then we would see what the problem is, crew cheif or Jr….Some said the Jr would be in the same building with Chad and Jimmy don’t look for that….it will never happen….
[Reply]
I’m a big Jr fan and still think the only one to calm Jr down and set his cars up the way he likes them to drive is his uncle, Tony Eury Sr (POPS). Jr has so much respect for him he don’t dare talk back.

Pops wants no part of the cup series. He is a shareholder and helping Jr.s’ sister Kelley run Jr.s’ company JR Motorsports. Tony Eury Sr. has already said that he will not work for HMS. HMS fired Tony Jr., he had Jr. in the chase. Do you really think that Pops would work for a man that fired his son!
[Reply]
OK, it great that Hendrick finally decide to do something. But how come Chad wasn’t put in the mix. No, Hendrick want to be greedy again for another championship in 2011. If Hendrick really care about his teams, then he should mix ALL 4 crewchiefs, not just 3. It nothing against the drivers as I like them all but Hendrick is the problem. He know Chad cheats and if he put Chad with Jr. or Jeff, then it will be crystal clear that if they found something wrong with Jr.’s car or Jeff’s car, then they will know who the BIG cheater is.
[Reply]
I like Jr too. I don’t like him because of his driving skill or for all the races he has won or all the Cup Championships he has won. He is a good looking young man that has used his brain to make a very good living. He seems like a very nice person. It is not important to me if he wins or not. Out of 80 or so drivers only one person gets to win in a given week. So I will continue to watch the races and root for drivers and teams but at the end of the day winning a race is not the answer to life and everything. Happy Thanksgiving to All.
[Reply]
Jr is his own man. He can drive he knows how. I think they should either give him chad or tony sr. I am a Jr fan an always will. When you don’t have the right set up or get someone that knows how to manage the driver and or equipment,. your not going to do anything. Rick Hendrick wanted johnson to win, so of course he will get everything he wants. We will see if this is the right crew chief for Jr. GO GET’EM JR. Your true fans know you will and can do it.
[Reply]
I thought Jeff would change chiefs in ’09 when he wasn’t winning and didn’t expect him to keep him in ’10.l I guess they are finally seeing that Jr. Jeff and Mark need a change. Jeff is still a good driver but age is catching up with him altho I think he can still be la winner, just time for a change. How many other drivers have changed crew chiefs this year, quite a few. Nascar just isn’t the same with all the changes. Mark needs to make way for some of the other guys. I agree, being in the same shop with the 48 doesn’t necessarily mean he is going to get the same help as the 48, they are a package deal with Chad being the brains and JJ just sitting behind the wheel taking instructions. It all goes back to how those cars are set up, not who is driving them. Jr. was always a great driver till stepmom couldn’t take that anymore and made it so difficult he had to get out. Hendricks didn’t give Jr what he needed. He still has the drive and the ability and these people that call him a loser don’t know Jr. They prefer the loudmouths that like to wreck people and get all the boo’s. I will never ever in my lifetime think Kyle is a great driver, he is wreckless, doesn’t care who he wrecks and doesn’t belong on the track with the good racers. Give me Tony, Matt, Jeff Burton, Harvick, Brad (altho young, he is maturing and will be a better driver than Kyle can only dream about). Martin Truex, and of course Dale Jr. (never wanted to be his daddy but learned from his knee and daddy didn’t give him anything, he made it o his own). It is strange you people give Jr. no credit for being anything but a cash cow….wonder how he wins most poplular driver every year if he is such a loser.
His fans know him and will always support him and the rest of you can take a break from all the bashing and run right over to Kyle and gush all over him One day he will get his big time, drivers have long memories. Jr. will be back, you can be sure he is going to get more help behind the scenes that just the crew chief. Jr. is a winner (count them up) and always will be. Enuf said…..
[Reply]
Jr is one of the best when everyone remembers he’s not Sr. The man was there when his dad was killed. Dont you think he needs to have his own time when its the right time. I do wish ( POPS) would take the job.
[Reply]
I hope this works for Jr. I think Letarte is a good crew chief although Gordon hasn’t been able to do much. He had good finishes though without wins. It at least show they are trying. What about the rest of the crews – are they following the crew chiefs or staying with the driver?
[Reply]
oh no everytime the put jr with someone else that team they put him with does bad, look what happen to mark martin, he was second in the points in 2009 then they gave jr in 2010 help from martins team, next martin couldnt even make the points chase, jr takes all the winning out of a good team they put him with. now the driver i like jimmie johnson gets jr taking ideas from him team not in 2011 jimmie johnson wont even make the points chase fot 2011, now come on lets help jimmie win no. 6 with out giving jr all jimmies help. u see what it did for mark martin after trying to help jr with marks martins ideas, jr still didnt win anything and it pulled mark down with him. Lets go no. 48 for no. 6 im behind the 48 all the way! congradulations to the 48 team for no. 5 champtionship !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[Reply]
i think it is so stupid. Hendrick should have broken up jimmie and chad, see how that lucky son of a B****h does without him
[Reply]
I never really cared for Jeff, now this year I do. I was soooo happy that he went after burton. I like Jimmy also. Dale Jr..yes I like Jr also.I think that after Sr’s death, everybody expected Dale Jr to ‘take his place’ sorta. Jr is his own man.He will do ok with Latarte.Jr will be Jr.I think he wants to win, do a good job, maybe one day win a Championship.I think that Chad will help Dale some, not give away any secrets, but help him. They all must talk, and from there work together to have good results.Nobody is going to give away their secrets, but I think that they will help each other.Sometimes I think that the head of nascrap good ol brian, has his choice to who he wants, and things happen that make it come true. So all the good things and whatever else is thrown on the shelf to make a brainless leader happy. Kyle is a good dedicated driver. Yes, he does some stupid things, but he is a good driver. Kyle will mature thru the years. Just Thank God that none of these drivers were chosen to be nascrap’s poster boy, so that their career can be ruined like ol brain ruined Jeremy Mayfield’s. It is what it is, and it will be what is dictated, when the brainless one wants something ..it happens…cautions, for this that. I hope that all mentioned drivers have a good 2011 season.Carl Edwards also.
[Reply]
I like the move to the #48 garage. I never thought Latarte was all that. I wanted Alan Gustafson. He is a proven winner with Kyle Booooosch and Mark Martin. We will see. I still think Jr. needs a crew chief who will jerk a knot in his butt – like Pops did.
[Reply]
That is one thing that Tony “Pops” Eury, Sr. NEVER did to Dale, Jr., I don’t care what you say. What caused him to get so fired up with him was all of the arguing over the radio they did with each other!!
[Reply]
Folks, Pops Will NOT go to the Cup side!! He is very happy at JRM. Not to mention the fact that Jr. needs him there. He is a shareholder in JRM. He is helping Kelly run the place. Another thing to remember – Why would he go to work for a man that fired his son. Would you? The only problem I have with LeTarte is that on more than one occasion the 24′s engines gave out. I never believed that every one gets the same equipment at HMS! Time will tell! I sort of feel sorry for the 5 driver, during a Nationwide race he was yelling at his now new cc for making a stupid call, now he’s got him back. What a way to spend his last year driving a race car.

[...] Steve Letarte was named Crew Chief for Dale Earnhardt Jr’s No. 88 team a lot of people questioned the move. The number one question seemed to be why Letarte was chosen [...]
I m glad Dale Jr. can have a new, fresh start for 2011. He is still a great driver and if you remember when he had Tony Eury Sr. he was doing good so he can win races once they find him the right guy to work with. Hopefully Steve will be able to help him.
[Reply]
It will not make any difference who the crew chief is for Jr. unless it is that One who could offer divine help! His driving style and the COT are not compatible. He will be more famous for being famous and thats it!
[Reply]
I have basic problems with different teams working for one organization, being “Required” to share the knowledge they’ve worked hard to come by, with another team within the same organization.I guess I’m “Old School” about this.
I’ve been following Nascar since the 50s, when there were no “Multi Car” teams. I’d love to see Dale Earnhardt reunite with his Uncle and Cousin,+ field a Nationwide car. Get back to where racing is fun again, and win some races with a crew that knows what thy’re doing. instead of being mad all of the time.
[Reply]
Well all I can say is Yeah !!!!! it is so good to hear things are looking up for Jr. and let’s hope him and Steve hit it off and they get the job done next year ..I never thought Steve would have been taken from Jeff I am sure Jeff will miss him as his CC but sure hope things go smoother for them all and they get what they all deserve better running race cars then what they had this year ..So hats off to Steve and Jr. and crew and hopes of a great year to come in 2011 ..
[Reply]
For the person’s information that made the “asinine statement” that Dale, Jr. is driving for DEI, that place has not been around since “Wicked-Witch Stepmother” Teresa sold it to have it become Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing. Also, if I see something like this again, I become more aggravated than I am now!! All I am saying is, “With all of his crew-chief shuffling, Hendrick has made a very, very major mistake!!”
[Reply]
It’s about time Hendricks did something good for Jr. Let’s see how things go next season. Best of luck to him (. #1 Jr. fan)

NUMBER ONE JEFF WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN THE OWNER OF JJ AND THE CC……..WHAT HAPPENED…CHEATING HENDRICKS WANTED MORE TEAMS SO HE PUT JEFF DOWN AS OWNER..FOR CONTROL ..NOW THERE IS STEWART AND NEWMAN MORE FOR HENDRICK AND THEN KASEY KANE ..AND HE GOT JR AS THE DOOR PRIZE NOW HE AND THE SNIFFER BRIAN FRANCE..NOW THEY CAN PUT IN FIRST PLACE WHO EVER THEY WANT AND YES AND HAND OUT THE CAUTIONS WHEN THEY WANT TO PUT THEIR DRIVER IN FIRST PLACE..WELL NOW YOU HAVE IT..GOOD LUCK TO ALL GOOOOOOOOOOOO JRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
[Reply]
Like I’ve said before, what Hendrick should have done is get his head out of the sand, and fired Lance McGrew as a Crew Chief a heck of a long time ago. None of this shuffling of crew-chiefs would have had to have taken place if that idiot was not one of them. Not only that, why didn’t he move Chad Knaus to a different team instead of leaving him with Jimmie Johnson?? That kinda sounds like playing “musical chairs” with four crew-chiefs and only three chairs they could sit in!!
[Reply]
As for your comment, Bonnie, the deal of Jeff Gordon being “half-owner” of Jimmie Johnson’s car came about due to Jeff signing the lifetime contract that he had signed with HMS I guess about five years or so back.
[Reply]
when Jr did not win any races and the cars he had was junk, i felt trhat the only reason Mr Hendrick wanted Dale jr was because of his popularity and the name Earnhardt,
Jr out sells any driver in the cirxcut, and he is the most popular driver out rthere, aftyer all the years Jr has been in the Hendricks camp, i felt he was handed left overs in motors and parts,
the crew chiefs was not worth a damn, none of them knows how to set up a car and how to make them run like jimmy s car does, dale needs to run up front like the big guys, he needs a car that will run away from kyle bush, as kyle has been pissed off ever since rick Hendrick let him go, and he was out to get dale jr
[Reply]
Dale Jr. is one heck of a race car driver & all of you that don’t like him tough luck. Chad Knause is the the biggest cheater that ever was so why would Hendricks move him to a different team.Every time that 48 car is on the track it is illegal because Knause said he would do every thing he could. Knause has been caught over ten time for cheating. That time they took something off of Johnson car they didn’t say what it was but Knause told Johnson he was on his own and he couldn’t do anything more to help him so you know that car was illegal. The 48 car should be taken out of the Hall of Fame because it does not belong there and I think Hendrick’s is paying Nascar to have Johnson win.
[Reply]
Jr needs to get POPS as his cc!!!! Would love 2c Jr win a championship, but if he never did he would still be my favorite. Jr is a class act!!!! He does’t need a trophy
to prove anything, thats just a material thing. He has proved he can drive back when
Dad was a live. He’ll be back on top & I hope he is the one to dethrone JJ. GO JR!!!
Is 2011 the year? LOVE JR!
[Reply]
Junior NEVER had leftovers as far as either engines or race cars are concerned. The problem with his team for over the last one and a half years is that idiot that Hendrick considers a crew chief, which he has now paired up with Mark Martin. I now feel really sorry for Mark, since Hendrick decided to team those two up with each other!!
[Reply]
Also, to answer someone else’s point here, the cars that Jimmie Johnson has are just as LEGAL per the NASCAR rules as anyone else on the circuit. If anyone knows how to build “cheater cars and skate the rules professionally”, leave that kind of stuff to either Richard Childress, or Chip Ganassi and Felix Sabates!!
[Reply]
It is about time he is treated as an equal!!! I, personally, did NOT want him with this team. Maybe 2011 will make me feel different. I will be at the 500 as always and I want Jr., to show the world, HE IS BACK!!!!
[Reply]
At last, change has come for Jr. Whether it is the right one or not , we will wait and see. I kinda feel like the person who wrote about Hendrick needed to mix up all the crew chiefs and drivers, including JJ and Knaus. I guess the old rule “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” holds true for Jimmie and his crew chief. Time will sure tell, won’e it? Jr. is and has always been a good driver and will continue to be in my opinion and I will continue to pull for him every race.
[Reply]
This maybe a good move for Jr. but he is still told what to do on that track…I really can’t buy changing crew cheifs is it..let JJ get in the chase again & watch all the others fall back just so he can shine…Chad..I am glad he’s not his crew cheif…I heard a tone of sarcasm in Chads voice during one race where he came on the radio & told JJ that if he heard the crowd screaming it was because Jr. made his way to the front so I hope & pray this is a good thing for Jr. he is a good driver
[Reply]
I too agree that Rick Hendrick has gone to great length’s & idea’s to pair Dale Jr. with a Crew Chief that he can & will listen to and the communication should be calm and Dale needs to let the CC, be the CC!! I see this as the last ditch opportunity for Dale to revive his Career as a NASCAR Sprint Cup Driver, I hope he embraces this change and make it ALL for the better and get out on that Track and show us what WE know he can do!! I think Dale may have lost a bit of self confidence, but it’s not too late to revive, reboot and kick butt!! “Dale Jr. Style”

I don’t believe that Jr. will have any trouble communicating with this crew chief. Steve knows how to set up a car and when told of a mishandling problem knows what adjustments to make. When and if he is told that the car is handling well, he won’t call Jr. in and maladjust it. What I am trying to say is that the previous person had no idea about anything to do when it came to handling problems.

I just wonder what excuses all you people will use next year when jr.e still loses? ROFL. Every year it’s the same old lies about how he’s gotten the short end of the stick from hendrick. Come on people…the better “EVERY” driver hendrick hires does, the more money he makes. Do you all really think he’s going to mess with his wallet just to benefit johnson? If so.. I got a bridge to sell you. It’s on the Arizona coast! lol

It was reported on NASCAR.com one or two days ago, that the Chevrolet Camaro will NOT be used in Cup Competition. They really should have a different car for Chevrolet since the one that they use now (regardless of nameplate) is still practically based on the old 1990′s Lumina body style!!

All the Hendrick drivers will come out the blocks fast and furious. The other 3 Hendrick drivers will begin winning, thus pushing Chad and Jimmie to win 1 or 2 more! I forsee Hendrick domination in 2011!

PLEASE PLEASE LEAVE JIMMIE AND CHAD TOGETHER. THEY ARE A TEAM THAT IS WORKING. I FEEL SORRY FOR STEVE. JR FORGOT HOW TO DRIVE AND I THINK RICK IS GIVING HIM MORE CHANCES THAT HE DESERVES. JR HAS TOO MANY EXCUSES WHY HE CAN’T WIN. NOW HE HAS ALL THE GREAT EQUIPMENT IN THE WORLD WITH HENDRICKS THAT ANYONE COULD EVER ASK FOR AND HE STILL CAN’T WIN OR DRIVE. Dale, Jr. can still get the job done behind the wheel of a race car. It was the “dillweed of a crew-chief” that he had the last one and a half years that was the major problem and unfortunately, it took Rick Hendrick that long to figure that out. So this crap of Dale, Jr. not knowing how to drive a race car will not fly. AT LEAST WITH THIS DEDICATED NASCAR FAN!!
[Reply]
Mark Martin, I beg your pardon, took a stand and decided he would not retire and that he would not step out of the #5 car for a reason!! Mark and I are the same age (Mark being one week older than myself) and he can still do some pretty damn good driving. So Kasey Kahne just has to wait a year, that’s all!!

Well, for a long time now I’ve said that Hendrick is NOT doing everything he can to make the teams equal, and this is exactly what I thought would do it. Splitting up the 248 shop will pretty much be it for me……I agree that Jr. is not his daddy, but I do think he is a good driver and can win a championship if he can get a crew chief that can make the necessary adjustments to keep up with the track and let the chief make the changes and him drive the car. I like Steve LaTarte and listen to him every week on my Sirius radio on TMD. He knows how to be a leader of a team, so I guess we will just have to wait to see what happens now.

According to a new story on NASCAR.com, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. has said that now having Steve Letarte as his new crew-chief will be a welcome sign. He is also looking forward to great improvements with his race team.

JR. STILL HAS WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN. I FEEL THE MOVE WITH STEVE LATARTTE WILL MAKE THIS A WINNING TEAM AGAIN.HIS LOSS OF SR. AN THE PRESSURE WITH DEI IM SURE HAS A LOT TO DO WITH A CONFIDENCE FACTOR.I THINK JR. NATION WILL SEE A NEW VERSION OF DALE JR. IN COMING 2011 SEASON.DALE JR. YOUR FANS ARE STILL BEHIND YOU MY FRIEND, BLESSINGS TO HENDRICKS MOTORSPORTS AN RESTRUCTURING OF THESE TEAMS.

It doesn’t matter who the crew chief is. Simply put, the driver sucks. Name Danica Patrick as Jimmie Johnsons crew chief, and he’d still win.

Harry , if you believe that a crew chief is not NECESSARY, you are a very delusional man. They are almost as important if not more so than the driver. . Ask any driver for any series from novice to pro and see what their answer is . I can’t believe you made such a ludecris statement . I hope you are not a stock car driver as you would be very lonely at the bottom

I think that having the mechanics in the Letarte , Knaus shop build the race cars is going to be a big plus for Junior.
