Road Course Race Tops

Road Course Race One of the Best

Road courses aren’t exactly my favorite style of racing. I would usually tell you to get rid of the 2 road courses, along with Pocono and some of the cookie cutter mile and a half tracks and add a few more races at bull rings like Bristol and Martinsville, or another race at Talladega – but the race at Infineon was one of the best races of the year.

The Shootout Style double file restarts really kept everything interesting in the final laps.

I couldn’t believe Kasey Kahne could hold off a skilled road racer like Tony Stewart for that many restarts. It looked like Kahne had his car dialed in – and some serious horsepower under the hood.

It was good to see Richard Petty back in Victory Lane for the first time in a long time, too.

So what did you think about road course racing, Kahne’s and Petty’s win and everything else going on in the race?

  2. one great race today, best this year. this race takes everthing to be in place. drivers have to be good at all times, no left turn left turn at 2 hundred mph. i wish they had more road corse races.

  4. I agree, it was one of the better races of the year. I think the double-file restarts had a lot to do with that because the cars didn’t get strung out like they usually do on a road course. Kasey is not one of my favorites but I was glad to see him win and especially glad for Richard Petty. Alas, poor Dale Jr. If not for getting caught up in that wreck, he was probably on his way to a good finish.

  6. I was happy that kyle bush did n’t win, and that dale jr did a whole lot better, he would have finished in the top ten if he had not got in somebodys wreck.
    he is coming back.

  8. Personally, I would be happy if there were no road course races. I really prefer the shorter races. You don’t get to see as much on the road course as you do on the others. To me they are not as exciting to watch. I will admit that Kasey drove a good race today.

About the 88 car i think the car was dialed in, did you see the way Dale Jr. was racing, had to be his best run there ever.
I wouldn’t say it was the best race this yr., but the double file restarts changed my view of road course races.

  18. Great race…. Need more road course races. NASCAR came from the bootleggers running on the roads, not in circles…..I agree with fritz

  22. GREAT RACE, ONE OF THE BEST ROAD COURSE RACES I’VE SEEN FOR A WHILE. I REALLY LIKED IT WHEN THEY SHOWED CRYBABY SPINNING OUT. GREAT LOOK FOR HIM [BACKWARDS ON THE COURSE]. DON’T LIKE THE SO CALLED RINGERS IN THE RACE BUT STILL LIKE THE ROAD COURSES, HOPE THEY KEEP THEM. JR DID REALLY WELL TODAY, TO BAD HE GOT CAUGHT UP IN THAT WRECK, HE WAS LOOKING AT A 10th PLACE OR BETTER. HES STILL ONE OF MY FAVORITES THOUGH.

  26. Congrats to Kasey an Richard the whole race was good. I now know what all the talk about Kyle being as popular as JR. is about because no matter what happens on or off the track everyone talks about it. Kyle is a racer and his whining is no worse that tony stewart use to be an can still be at times the list could go on. But its Nascar an I love it

  28. Speeding on pit road. Dropped lug nuts.
With all these problems, he still finished 9th.
Jeff Gordon is still the best road racer.

  34. Kasey won and I almost had a heart attack yelling for him the last 20-plus laps. Every restart had me wringing my hands. I know he’s a great driver and am so proud of him winning a road race. I’m 70 years of age this year and I only hope I live to see JR win again. Helen Johnson says he is coming back. Back from where? Never been a constant winner or champion in the Cup series. He needs to retire and be owner only. Kasey, on the other hand, is coming back and will be the winner of the most races as he was in 2006. Love that guy!!!!!!!!!

  36. Edwards really didnt have to get into Ragan.
He ruined JR’s at least top 10 finish.
he should learn how to drive on a road course.

  40. Not a road course fan either, but this one was actually entertaining. Congrats to Kasey, he did an excellent job with no mistakes. He really deserved this win. Hard to beat Smoke on a road course, but he held him off on all those restarts. Smoke’s still my man and I think he’s still the best. Love the double file
restarts. It’s about time Nascar put a little excitement in the race.

  44. It was really a good race, Jr. ran really well and would have ended up in the top ten had stupid Carl Edwards not gotten into David Ragan and spun Jr. out. We were happy, happy for Jr., seems Lance and the boys are finally getting Jr. running better. It’s just a shame as to what happened, he was running so well and ended up dropping two spaces in the points, I think had that not happened he would have gained quite a bit. We still love Jr. and will be there no matter what happens.

  48. seeing Richard Petty back in the winner’s circle really brought back some good memories of the 70’s when he won so many races and i was there along with my ex who worked for Richard at the time. I know he couldn’t be more proud of Casey and they both deserve this win. I’m still a staunch fan of Jr. and believe me, his day will come. He had a very good run Sunday, but luck was not with him. Keep trying, Jr. Never give up!!!

  50. You are in the minority on that one Jim. Couldn’t have been happier to see him spin and end up facing the way he came! He was his usual whiny, crybaby on Saturday night when he didn’t win. If I were a sportscaster, I wouldn’t even interview him when he is like that. What a bad sport!!!!

  52. If I were the parents of Kyle, I would be so embarrased…seen alot of losers in sports in my 70 years, but when Kyle loses, he is so disrespful of everyone…maybe his Dad should give him a talking too, you’re never too old to be set straight…what would happen if he had to sit out a race or two????…nope, Gibbs would be losing too much money……what goes around, comes around…don’t wish him bad luck, but I think he needs a comeuppance from someone…..

GLAD TO HEAR THAT JR HAD A GOOD RACE, I KNOW HE
CAN DO IT AND HE HAS A LOT TO OVERCOME. I BELIEVE IT WAS A ROAD RACE WHERE HE HAD HIS ACCIDENT AND I AGREE WITH HIM 100 PERCENT HIS DAD WAS WATCHING OUT FOR HIM. JR DON’T WORRY ABOUT WHAT FOLKS SAY, JUST DO THE BEST FOR YOUR TEAM AND IT WILL WORK OUT. GRAMMY 67
