Petty: Today’s Drivers Not True to NASCAR Roots
Dale Jr & Girlfriend Amy Reinman | Photo
Here’s an interesting interview with Richard Petty on Fox Business.
Petty says that today’s drivers have lost touch with the roots of NASCAR.
The King also admitted something he probably didn’t mean to say, and Ford executives should pay attention to this. Even though Petty races Fords on Sunday, he says he still drives a Chrysler on the street.
Watch the interview here. What do you think about Petty’s comments?

Thank you Racing Win for this video. He and I worked for the same guy in 1984 in different areas of the country. I have never met him but would like to someday. He is correct about the drivers forgetting their roots. For the most part they don’t remember or just plain don’t know who put the sport where it is today. I sometimes wonder if they or some of the people connected to them even care!

Richard said “maybe they have”. In the South that means maybe yes or maybe no. Therefore, you cannot say that Richard said today’s drivers are not true to NASCAR roots. Also, he mentioned losing Kasey. If he had gotten the best equipment to go with Kasey and Kenny, he would have been able to keep Kasey in Petty Motorsports. Also, it was evident that Richard favored A.J. when he came aboard and did not recognize Kasey’s wins and “top dog” status on the team. Let’s see what A.J. can do next year as the team leader!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Driver’s today do not have it the way they did long ago. Money is bigger ,they are hungry yes. But as THE KING said 1000.00 is much less that what is made today. Today they have sponsors, back then they did not. And I think the older driver’s had a much bigger love of the sport. I know driver’s to day love it or wouldn’t climb in those cars. But with all the restrictions Nascar has ,all the rules that seem to change from track to tracker.driver to driver. Seems at times what is ok for one driver is not ok for another.
I would love for 1 race that driver’s had to drive under the same conditions they used to drive. I may humble a lot of them.

Hello.
Not only are the drivers out of touch so is NASCAR itself. They don’t care about the blue collar workers any more they only care about building tracks with high rise whatever for sissies who don’t even know what racing is all about. Bring back the short tracks Rockingham (remember) . I was happy to see Petty Blue bac on the track Yeah!!!
Thanks #3 Fan Forever

I wasn’t insulting the people of the South. My relatives landed off the coast of the Carolinas in 1520! That was one side of the family. I have a relatives living in NC now from the other side.

Yeh, I feel the old days were better and more exciting to watch. It seems today you already know who going to win by the tracks they are at, Busch wins at certain tracks, Johnson win at certain tracks, etc. I wish someone like R.Petty, Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison, Pearson, and all the old drivers from the best Nascar days in the past, take over Nascar or become a member of the board and give advice on how to put it back to when racing was enjoyable. Just a thought.

My hubby and I used to drive Fords, Ford Motor gave us the shaft so we are driving Chrysler now. Ford does have nice looking vehicles, but they wouldn’t cover there warranty.
So what makes the differents what Petty drives on the streets. It’s his business. He could drive horse and buggy and it wouldn’t anybody business.

Tom, I like your thought, our local tracks often ask older drivers for advise to help run the track ! Nascar should take their experience and wisdom to improve the races!

I have NEVER liked and more importantly have never had RESPECT for Richard Petty.
KING??????? NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get over ‘him.’
Who listens to him anyway…they are PRETENDING!!! He doesn’t contribute. So let him go home with his wife! Oh Yea. She’s probably glad he’s at the tracks!!!
I Love the comment about Kasey and AJ. I don’t believe A.J. can get the ‘job done.’ I think Casey will do real good. R.P. as never spent enough money on equipment.
Remember Kasey voted in as ‘fan favourite’ and WON.
I LOVE Kyle and always have. Always has a smile and is very witty and funny.. Wife Patty is a ‘gem.’
Check in your dictionary and I am sure you will find NASCAR beside the word GREED!!! Don’t knock the driver’s. NASCAR needs to step up to the plate.
What have the done? Oh yea. They finally brought in DOUBLE FILE RE-STARTS! OK!!
Two more members in the Truck’s suspended for substance abuse. That is 6 for sure. Oh there. Let R.P. regulate that and do something constructive.
Sure fired up for this week end’s racing.
BRUTON AND SON MARCUS “WILL PULL OFF HIS DESIRE TO RACE INDY AND THEN DRIVER’S HEAD FOR COCA-COLA 600.”
ENJOY.

Although Petty eluded to the fact that today’s NASCAR drivers don’t have the roots from the past, he also said each generation learns from the other. That more than says todays drivers do have roots back to the past.

Karen, I respect your comments, other an the one about not respecting Richard Petty. Back in 1986, maybe before you where born, at Daytona, Richard and Dale Sr. where signing autographs. Both lines were long, Dale had to leave for whatever reason. In Dale’s line there were two kids in wheelchairs. Richard got up and brought them to his table and sign their stuff. And further more I respect every racecar driver be it Nascar or local track drivers. So if you can’t see the respect and the beauty in that then maybe I should introduce you to the two men in the wheelchairs.Respectfully yours,Rick Castle.
