The Nancy Pelosi Secret to Winning in NASCAR

by

Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus have mastered the art of psychological gamesmanship. They are experts at getting inside the hearts and minds of their opponents.

Drivers are more concerned about beating Jimmie Johnson than they are about making their own cars faster.

Johnson enjoys the games. “I get caught up in that mind game stuff and find a lot of satisfaction in it,” Jimmie Johnson said. “I told Chad before the year was over I want to win a lot to frustrate the competitors.

Kurt Busch is concerned

Just look at Kurt Busch’s remarks after losing at Bristol despite dominating the race and leading 278 laps.

“I don’t know, I’d rather lose to any of the 41 cars out there than the 48 car,” Busch said

“It’s up to the best of us to knock him off the top,” Busch said after losing to Johnson in the closing laps of Sunday’s Food City 500 at Bristol. “So it’s rough. You know, they’ve won three times this year. Not that we need to, deserve to win, it’s just that they are winning every chance they’re given. We just need to position ourselves more to get those wins.”

Matt Kenseth is worried about Johnson, too. During the spoiler test this week at Charlotte Motor Speedway Kenseth was asked about the upcoming race at Martinsville and Johnson’s winning record there. “He’s good everywhere,” said Kenseth.

What drivers can learn from Nancy Pelosi

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi knows how to play mind games all too well. She called President George Bush a “total failure” when Bush criticized Congress’s inaction on important legislation.

“God bless him, bless his heart, President of the United States — a total failure, losing all credibility with the American people,” said Pelosi.

When Barack Obama was pushing for passage of his Obama Care plan Pelosi urged her colleagues to vote for it. “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it’” urged Pelosi.

Goody's Fast Pain Relief 500 - Practice

There are a few NASCAR drivers who can stand to learn a thing or two about mind games from Pelosi.

Chad Knaus does the same thing to other crew chiefs. He’s been known to walk through the garage on the morning of the race with a rear spring over his shoulder headed to the race car – but never intending to change a thing on the car.

He just wants to get the other crew chiefs talking – to throw them off their game.

When the No. 48 team was invited to participate in a Goodyear tire test late last year many drivers including Greg Biffle were complaining that Johnson was gaining an unfair advantage. Here’s how Chad Knaus responded to that:

“I hope people are worried. I hope people are talking about the fact that we tire tested and it’s wrong. All these people can get wound up about stuff that really doesn’t matter.” ~ Chad Knaus.

“But as far as sending a message, I hope it does. I hope people talk about it. Like I said earlier, I hope people are worried. I hope people are talking about the fact that we tire tested and it’s wrong. All these people can get wound up about stuff that really doesn’t matter,” said Knaus.

Dale Earnhardt was the master

I haven’t seen anyone this good at psychological racing since Dale Earnhardt. He wasn’t known as The Intimidator just for what happened on the race track.

Once at Talladega when all the other drivers were busy dialing their cars in during practice Dale shook things up with a very simple move. He parked his car in the garage, covered it up, and went fishing.

Dale Earnhardt won 10 Cup races at Talladega.

Earnhardt once struck fear into the hearts of his fellow drivers when he made his famous comment about drivers complaining about the high speeds at Daytona. Essentially, he told them if they were afraid to drive the car they should go home.

So who else in NASCAR is good at psyching out their competitors? What tactics have you seen played out by drivers? I’d be happy to hear about it in the comments, or feel free to contact me.

  2. If Nancy pelosi and Obama start regulating NASCAR then I’m gonna quit watching. It’s bad enough they shoved this dang health bill that nobody wanted down our throats.

If they can see a dollar in it for themselves they will be all over NASCAR.

  4. Amen. You are correct on that one buddy! Also, it’s America’s fault for letting them get away with…….pushing that health care bill down our throats…….
when November comes around PLEASE VOTE REPUBLICAN! Then, we can all go back to being normal again. By the way, Pelosi is as dishonest and crooked as they come. Check out all she did for her husband’s firm and on our hard-earned tax paying money too.

  6. AMEN!!!!! All the democrats can do is blame Bush, they are gonna try to take over the complete country, they’ve taken over the car industry, banks, healthcare, what’s next? NASCAR. I don’t like Toyota in racing but the only reason the government is giving Toyota so much trouble is because Toyota is NOT UNION, and most of the unions support Obama, and he’s trying to take it over so he can make it union. We have GOT to get out the vote in November to get rid of Obama and his socialism.

  8. I don’t know a thing about Nancy Pelosi but I do wonder why Jimmie tried to wreck his car with burnouts after the race. Seems really suspicious to me.

  10. Johnson and Knaus are cheaters and they should be barred from racing becuse every time Johnson goes out on that track his car is illegal as get out. you know what Hendricks knows all about it and will not let anyone into their garage to watch them build their cars so you kknow something is fishy there.

“Nancy Pelosi is as phony as a three dollar bill.” I have been working with the general public all my life and have gotten to be able to “read people” very well. I wasn’t too happy with the debates between Dems and Repubs. That was when I felt that Obama was talking out of the side of his mouth.
If Pelosi has any secrets, it will show itself next November when the Republicans take over the congress, senate and the house…..

If she has a secret concerning NASCAR, she better keep it to herself as the fans will run over her with our own cars and leave her thoughts to herself.

As you can tell I don’t like the woman and never will. As far as Jimmy is concerned, every king has been dethroned before and one day he too will be a memory.

  12. What the hell are you bringing Nancy Pelosi into something that gets our mind off of Nancy Pelosi?! Racing is where we escape from the poison our Speaker brings to our country. After she’s done destroying America, NASCAR is next!

Diane, that’s why Nancy Pelosi must be stopped. Unfortunately there are not many NASCAR fans in her district.

  14. What makes you think Jimmy Johnson, Chad Knaus and Hendricks are cheating and his car is illegal as all get out every race? Chad has cheated before and got caught and penalized for it, but if their cheating now, then why doesn’t NASCAR catch them cheating and fine/penalize them? Ever think that they’re just that good winning races and championships? A lot of other have dominated the races before, such as Dale Earnhardt Sr., Jeff Gordon, Darrell Waltrip, Richard Petty and even Cale Yarbough who won 3 championships in a row, and no one said they were cheating.

Ms. Pelosi comes out of California (which is her district) and there are a couple of NASCAR race tracks out there and plenty of fans. But then again the state is now considerd bankrupted….Hmmm I wonder why ????

  16. Don’t worry about what Jimmie and Knaus are doing, JUST CONCENTRATE ON WHAT YOU NEED TO DO, THE ANSWER IS COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE ALL THE PARTIES CONCERNED, FROM DRIVER TO CREW CHIEF TO THE MEN WHO WORK IN THE PITTS, QUIT COMPLAINING AND RACE. GRAMMY 67

    Mmadew88,
Unfortunately Nancy Pelosi represents California’s 8th Congressional district which is the City of San Francisco – the most liberal city in the United States.

There are very few NASCAR fans in downtown San Francisco. On a Sunday afternoon you would be more likely to find a medical marijuana shop than a sports bar showing a NASCAR race.

Pelosi’s constituents are not going to vote her out – and they don’t care anything about NASCAR. They are nowhere near the 2 California tracks either based on distance or in their hearts. And they could care less about the revenue NASCAR brings to their home state.

    We are stuck with Pelosi.

  20. Amen to that grammy67. If those people spent as much time taking care of their own business, JJ and Chad wouldn’t be kicking their butts every week. Instead, they sit around and whine constantly. Maybe they should be spending their time watching pro wrestling. Just my opinion.
