Kyle Busch Skips Obama Meeting
Barack Obama invited 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson and the 11 other Chase drivers from last year to the White House for a months late celebration and meeting on the South Lawn.
Kyle Busch decided to skip the ceremonies.
Maybe Kyle doesn’t agree with Obama’s politics. Or maybe he was just in a hurry to get to Bristol for the truck race. But he wasn’t the only one who didn’t show up. Kevin Harvick and Matt Kenseth were also invited but did not go.

“You know, it is not every day that we have a championship stock car parked out on the South Lawn,†said Obama. “Fortunately, we got Jimmie to agree not to do any burnouts or tear up my backyard.â€
Who knew? I thought that that backyard belonged to the American People.
The drivers who did attend were Greg Biffle, Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Carl Edwards, Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin and Tony Stewart.
Obama also invited past NASCAR Champions and special guests Dale Jarrett, Bobby Labonte, Terry Labonte, Juan Pablo Montoya, Richard Petty, Rusty Wallace and Darrell Waltrip.
This is the ninth time — since 1978 — that NASCAR Champions have been invited to the White House.
“NASCAR is once again honored to have its drivers recognized by the President of the United States,†said NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France. “NASCAR is rooted deep in America’s fabric and represents the best of sports and side by side competition.”

Obama said NASCAR is not just about racing — but about America.
“It’s about all the foundations NASCAR has started to support schools and hospitals, combat hunger and homelessness,” said Obama. “And work to help folks in our communities — like the campers here from Victory Junction – kids who can teach us all a thing or two about courage and hope, and I hope had the time of their lives at summer camp.”
“So today, I want to thank all of you for that and for everything you do to make this country a better country. And I wish you all the best of luck in this year’s Chase,†said Obama.
“God bless all of you, and God bless the United States of America. Thank you very much, everybody.â€
Obama never made a campaign stop at a NASCAR track when he was running for office. John McCain did. I wonder why he has decided to reach out to NASCAR and its fans now.
Did Kyle Busch make the right decision in skipping the ceremonies?

I don’t understand why anyone would skip the chance to visit the white house and any president. I f I would skip out on a President it would be George W. Busch, not President Obama. So what if he’s not a NASCAR follower…there are more important things to think about. I think it’s good he made the effort to invite the guys whether he was pressured to or not! Shame on the guys who skipped it!

NASCAR drivers and fans are mostly Republicans. Jimmie Johnson even voted for John McCain. This meeting was nonpartisan and the reason Kyle Busch missed it was because he was racing in the Truck race that night. Also, this meeting was rescheduled from earlier this month because the Pocono race was postponed.

To you Barbara –
B.S. You just showed your true colors.
I am not a Kyle Busch fan but I’ll tell you one thing – I now have more respect for him than I do for my favorites’ Dale,Jr and Tony…..I am so disappointed that they accepted. They should have been with Matt and Kevin and the rest that stayed away.
To each his own!

To you Pat, guess you showed your ass also. The NASCAR invite was nonpartisan and should have been attended by those invited. If, for no other reason then to respect the office of President. Can’t figure out why so many NASCAR fans are Repubicans, alot of them are on the lower economic rung of the ladder and would BENEFIT from President Obama’s programs. Guess it’s a “redneck thing”
Erin Reply:
August 20th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
Those who stayed away did so because of their commitments to the CWTS and nothing else. Matt probably wanted to stay home with Katie and the new baby or maybe he had sponsor commitments? I am glad the President acknowledged them for all of their charitable works.

its good for nascar the president brings attention to the best sport. he is a day late and a dollar short but its still good for nascar. weather you think he is an ass or not he still is the elected president. for what ever reason the president did it now does not matter everyone who likes him will like him and everyone who does not wont, He will not fool any drivers, owners or fans. but those who went were respectful as always..and that is what really matters respect wr

who cares if you have to meet the president it would be fun just to go and check out the white house on the other side of the fence and maybe grab some of those m&ms that they have laying around in all the bowls there!!!hey wait a moment who drives the m&ms car maybe the white house should boycott the candy to!!!!
wonder how the candy company feels now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand that it doesnt go on all the time, & I didnt say that it did… but it’s also not some evil plan that President Obama has come up with himself to try to get over on us. Of course it’s a P.R. thing & I dont see anything wrong with him honoring Nascar & the drivers. It’s a privilige, like Richard Petty said in his interview, whether you like him or not he is the President & deserves repect. I just dont see why some people comment negatively about the fact that he is just carrying on a tradition & trying to make a connection with the (American) sport.

Tradition, it’s just a damn thing to do that’s in the date planner, give me a brake. This man doesn’t know what a motor even looks like or what it does.
Grow up and stop your tradition stuff. It’s also a tradition that we’ve had to have fly overs and they want to put a stop to that. We are to honor them and they can just stick their noses in the air at us?

How dare he use our children and our Nascar to further his propaganda. I’m furious about the things he is doing to this country that we all love. I would like to know who died and made Obama GOD.

Elaine, if your God really does live in your heart and soul, He must really be disappointed with your rotten attitude toward your fellow human beings, which just happen to be his children also. I sure hope that your not a Christian because you are really setting a bad example to those that haven’t given their lives to Jesus yet. I will remember you in my prayers and hope that God will forgive you for your trespasses.
I’m sure those drivers didn’t want to get dressed up in a suit in the heat and make a trip to DC just to see Obama, but they done what they had to do. The ones that went showed character and poise although they would have liked to have been anywhere else. So at least give them credit for being gentlemen and doing the right thing. At least the ones that went represented the sport like they should have, unlike the ones who didn’t HAVE the time. Once again we see who the true gentlemen of the sport are!

The Ten Commandments According to Obama
1. Thou shalt have no God in America, except for me. For we are no longer a Christian nation and, after all, I am the chosen One. (And like God, I do not have a birth certificate.)
2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, unless it is my face carved on Mt. Rushmore.
3. Thou shalt not utter my middle name in vain (or in public). Only I can say Barack Hussein Obama.
4. Remember tax day, April 15th, to keep it holy.
5. Honour thy father and thy mother until they are too old and sick to care for. They will cost our public-funded health-care system too much money.
6. Thou shalt not kill, unless you have an unwanted, unborn baby. For it would be an abomination to punish your daughter with a baby.
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery if you are conservative or a Republican. Liberals and Democrats are hereby forgiven for all of their infidelity and immorality, but the careers of conservatives will be forever destroyed.
8. Thou shalt not steal, until you’ve been elected to public office. Only then is it acceptable to take money from hard-working, successful citizens and give it to those who do not work, illegal immigrants, or those who do not have the motivation to better their own lives.
9. Thou shalt not discriminate against thy neighbor unless they are conservative, Caucasian, or Christian.
10. Thou shalt not covet because it is simply unnecessary. I will place such a heavy tax burden on those that have achieved the American Dream that, by the end of my term as President, nobody will have any wealth or material goods left for you to covet.

This must be red neck country. Ever comment is to down grade our president.Nascar did the right thing. I bet our drivers enjoyed the trip.We are Americans act like it.

Thank you sir for serving our country. May God bless and keep you. Personally, the National anthym, the envocation, the flyover, seeing the troops at the events, the racecars painted with military schemes is PART of Nascar and brings me joy for each race. without that it would just be another sport. No matter how loud we get during the race etc everyone knows in MY home that there is to be total silence during the opening ceremonies, in honour of our heroes, such as youself and in honour of our country.

Thank you for your service to country and according to a friend of mine who is a military pilot there is NO COST involved in flyovers since all the pilots MUST meet a minimum number of hours flying and these flyovers are scheduled into their training so if they didn’t flyover an event they woudld be flying around somewhere else. And what better advertisng for our fine military to show the best trained and equiped military in the world–May God bless all our fine military men and women

Congratulations to Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth and Kevin Harvick 3 NASCAR drivers I could not stand before but now……….I HAVE THE UPMOST RESPECT AND ADMIRATION FOR THEM. I was so disappointed in Dale Jr. If you support Jeff Gordon, then you are just like him…….A TRADER TO YOUR COUNTRY! We should all support and stand behind Kyle Busch because he is a man above all men. He was invited to the White House and turned them down because he is like I said….A MAN ABOVE ALL MEN. I always said if I owned a motorsports team I would want someone like Kyle Busch who puts his heart and soul into racing…….he is NO PHONEY!!! There are many phonies out there just like your Jeff Gordon and the others who went including my driver Dale Jr…..I am going to throw all of Dale Jrs stuff away and I have an entire room full of Earnhardt……down with them too!

I, too, was brought up to respect the office of the President of the United States, no matter who held that office. I cannot believe all the narrow-minded controversy this article has stirred up. What a bunch of idiots to agree with Kyle Busch…what makes that ass so special…the reason he didn’t go to the White House was because he went to Bristol to make money, thinking of himself, Mr. Ego, as usual. I did not vote for Obama nor do I agree with his policies but I respect his position as President of the United States. The drivers who attended showed their respect and patriotism by doing so. I feel sure they felt honored to be there. A note to Maureen, who called Jeff Gordon a “trader” to his country, oh, Maureen, I didn’t realize he was in the trade business…what aspect of it were you referring to?

This meeting was rescheduled from earlier this month and Kyle Busch had already committed to racing in the Truck race at Bristol. If the Pocono race wasn’t rained out, Busch would have probably went. It’s not his fault that it rained at Pocono and this meeting was postponed to a day that he couldn’t make it.
This meeting with Obama was nonpartisan. NASCAR IS REPUBLICAN. There was no political point to this and was largely ignored by the news media.
I’m impressed that Obama was personally interviewed by the ESPN NASCAR Now people. Maybe he does have some class after all?

Bravo Kyle. Hey, if Kyle would have been there he would have been the one with the nerve to ask Obama what he intends to do in regards to the fly overs.Obama has already canned a 47 year fly over for one event, what about Nascar. Everyone was probably reguired to be there and the others had the race etc. NASCAR, its events, the drivers, their community involvement, we fans are the TRUE deffinition of America.. God, Country and loyalty. Obama likes to hear himself talk, at least our race car drivers can back up their mouths, yes kyle too, when they get behind that wheel! Maybe Obama learned something from being around just normal harding working guys whereas I doubt he has ever gotten his nails dirty. Any of you who are real NASCAR fans will back up NASCAR on this one. Yes, most drivers are Republican, however, they were respecting the TITLE of President of the United States. When Richard Petty was interviewed he commented on respecting THAT title.
Also, during Obama’s speech, he commented on Jimmy agreeing not to do any burnouts in his backyard. However, he also referred to the White House as being the home of the American people. He also made reference to foundations of the drivers as well as all the other good work they do for the American people. He spoke about the support given to the military. It also appears that he made all our guys from NASCAR feel very comfortable.
As for the three drivers who didn’t show, everyone is only guessing why they didn’t. Quite frankly, it’s none of our business and the matter should be left alone.
I’m not very fond of Obama but other presidents have welcomed NASCAR at the White House. And some of those presidents weren’t well liked by everyone either.
It appears some of you didn’t pay close attention to the speech and comments by the NASCAR people who were there. As a NASCAR fan I’m proud of their appearance at the White House. I am with Richard Petty and his comments and I’m very proud of Dale, Jr. for being a part of it.

I am so pleased to read such comments as Donbch and Melva wrote. It does my heart good to know there are still some good, patriotic Americans left in this wonderful country who were brought up to respect the office of President, no matter whether left, right, forward or backward voters. My generation was taught to respect the men who make this country great, even the ones who make mistakes, the women also. You can tell by the generation coming up today, there is a big difference in the way they think, behave and act and it’s because of the way they are being taught. I cannot believe some of the trash that has been written because our President invited NASCAR to the White House. I wonder how many of you will take advantage of any new laws passed during this administration that will benefit you. I’m sure you won’t turn them down. Last. my praises to the men who did go to the White House. They deserve our respect…
