Kyle Busch Grows Up – But Will It Last?

Kyle Busch showed a little more maturity and professionalism this weekend at Bristol – and he may have earned a few more fans for it.kyle

In Friday night’s Nationwide Series race Kyle Busch was wrecked while leading by rookie Chase Austin when Austin turned left in front of Kyle sending Busch’s car into the wall.

The fans erupted in a loud cheer when they saw Kyle crash. Busch simply climbed from his car and headed straight to his hauler. But he came out after a few minutes to speak to the media. Everyone expected him to blast the young rookie who had just taken him out.

Instead, Kyle had this to say:

“Real unfortunate that it happened,” Busch said. “I’ve made mistakes too. I guess the spotter didn’t see the leader coming didn’t have the spotter telling him the leaders were bearing down. It stinks that it’s this early in the race that we’re talking to you.”

“If he had a flat tire it’s a rookie thing. You live and you learn. Chase didn’t have the spotter telling him stay high.”

“I heard a lot of fans were happy about it. That’s how I knew it was Kyle,” said Chase Austin of the crowd’s response to Busch’s wreck.

Then Saturday night after winning the Sharpie 500 Sprint Cup race Kyle climbed from his car – grabbed the checkered flag – and handed it to a little girl at the fence who was wearing an M&Ms Shirt.

I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of Kyle Busch’s temper – but he seemed to have it under control this weekend.

  4. I have to admit he is getting smarter…I was impressed with his actions and his race interview. Not sure of the reason for the change in attitude, my guess is M&M made a call to Coach. Money talks louder than Kyle ever will.

  6. It’s about time I will give him a lot of credit for doing that. Hey Kyle it’s about time you act like a super star, what you did was great and I still have a little hope for you. May God bless you for what you have done!

  8. yea its a shock that kyle actually did wat he did but the question is will it last?

  10. Do not let this fool you. It was only for show and it will not last. Just wait till the first time something does not go his way and the old Kyle will appear again

  12. Although I’m far from being a Kyle Bush fan, he’s still riding high after blowing obama off. I can deal with him a bit more, now I guess.

  14. I THINK THIS IS ALL A JOKE.. HES A BABY AND HE WILL STAY THAT WAY…THE ONLY THING HE DID THAT WAS CORRECT WAS BLOWING OFF OBAMA..

HE DOESNT AND CANT KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT

  16. Good for Kyle! I never thought I would say that. I was upset with the announcers for putting so much blame on Chase Austin. How often have with seen someone with a flat tire lose control and take out other cars? Chase said it jerked the steering right out of his hands and the spotter never had a chance to react. How can one blame him for that?

  18. LIKE I SAID BEFORE HE’S ON THE WAY DOWN HILL THIS YEAR, I DON’T THINK HE WILL MAKE THE CHASE.LOOK AT GOV. PEOPLE WANTED A CHANGE AND THEY GOT IT. KYLE WON’T CHANGE IN A WEEK. WE’LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS IF THINGS GO BAD FOR HIM.NOT LIKE MARTIN OR JR.WHO TAKE THERE SHOTS AND GO WITH IT.

  20. If he keeps this up he might become a good guy.Someone I could like, maybe.

  22. Doing the right thing and acting like someone besides a baby is a one time thing – watch and see. Let someone bump him out of a win and he will erupt like an angry volcano. I still think Dale, Jr., is twice the person Kyle is. I will remain a Dale, Jr. as long as he is racing. Go Dale!! You can do it.

  23. nancy on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 8:35 am
  24. Kyle may have a bit of a maturity problem…many people do. But he is a great driver. Many of the greatest have deemed him so. While Junior, on the other hand, has been riding his Daddy’s coattails. It is time for the Junior fans to get smart and realize he’s popular for other than his driving skills..Of which he has very little. He is a party boy…not a race car driver. Hendrick made a big mistake taking him into his race family.

  25. Celia McCulty on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 8:37 am
  26. I am a Kyle fan and I am so proud of him for not falling into the Obama pit. Dale Jr. is a truly nice guy but when are you people going to understand he is where he is because of his name, not because he is a great driver. I wish he could do better for his sake but I don’t think he ever will. We all have whined at one time or another, Kyle whines at himself because he hates to lose. What is wrong with that? He will only get better, all the commentators agree to that!!!!!

  27. Deloris on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 9:09 am
  28. I also saw his comments after the Nationwide race and was astounded at how well he conducted himself ~ actually friendly to the media. I have always considered him a talented driver but not, in any way, a class-conscious person.
This was certainly a step in the right direction and it will be interesting to watch future interviews. Go Dale!

  29. mamadew88 on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 9:23 am
  30. Don’t let this fool you….Thank you Deborah! You hit the nail right on the head. Kyle Busch is living on the edge right now trying so hard to make the Chase that his PR man told him he needs to be more careful as to what he says or does right now. Wasn’t it just last week where he had a go round with Brian Vickers? Now that’s the REAL KB. A person does not change his personality overnight. He’s not even close in the running for the MPD this year !!!!!

  31. Ronda on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 9:41 am
  32. Who was that nice guy pretending to be KB? Obvious he got his ass chewed out. It won’t last. Next week he will be his horrible self.

  33. sheila on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 9:46 am
  34. I will give Kyle credit for BEHAVING himself, but come on, be real, the test will REALLY be when he loses another race. Giving the little girl the checkered flag was a nice thing to do.

  35. sheila on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 9:50 am
  36. I have to disagree with you Celia on the Jr. remarks. Jr. has always been a good driver. His father saw that when he was only 16 how well he could drive. Jr. may have the Earnhardt name, but that HAS NOT gotten him to the places he has went. By the way, it didnt take him 20 years to win at Daytona.

  37. Tom on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 10:22 am
  38. I think this is only a short term (1 week) being a Mr. Nice Guy. Nobody can change overnight and it will take a couple of months to see if Kyle really change.

  39. Randy K on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 10:26 am
  40. didn’t kyle head straight to his hauler after he wrecked friday night? “once a baby, always a baby” lol

  41. Nell on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 10:43 am
  42. Kyle always does a great job, thanks to Mr Hendrick who wanted the win, win, win Jr.
He has done well,Ha ha ha for the chevrolets.Huh What a joke Jr. is!!!!!
Kyle will get better with years ,look how long it took Jr.to act like a man!Nell

  43. Marie on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 11:26 am
  44. Surely you are not serious? Surely you don’t believe Kyle Busch has reached a new level of maturity? As I recall, when he went into his hauler after the wreck, his attidute was evident by his body language. As for the later interview, he was probably coached to say those things in an attempt to make him look better. That wreck was the highlight of the race. My reaction when he was going into the lead was, “Oh, no” then, suddenly, bam! That was grrrrreat! The Cup race Saturday night was boring; I quit watching and went to bed. When I saw on the Sunday morning news who won, I was glad I didn’t waste my time watching.

  45. Marie on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 11:27 am
  46. That should have been “attitude.” I know how to spell, it was simply a transposition of letters.

  47. Marie on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 11:30 am
  48. Nell, keep your nasty comments regarding Dale Jr. to yourself. We’re Dale Jr. fans here, not Kyle Busch fans. If you want to laud praise on that nincompoop, do it elsewhere.

  49. Good old Ed on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 1:36 pm
  50. Who gives a dam. Just wait till the next race he do not win the jurk will be back.

  51. dy on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 2:25 pm
  52. I loved it when he gave the child the flag! Kyle is a great driver, lets be straight up. Ok so he is immature. Stewart had tons of fans and he was always a jackass. Heck he didnt really mature up til he got his own team. Cheering because ANYONE crashes espececially into the wall…wtf??? We have seen what wall crashes can do..Daytona..2001…who was cheering when that happened? We all have a fav driver, sure. But if you love nascar, love the sport, then how can you ‘hate’ or laugh when there could be harm to any driver, thats just assinine. btw, I’m a devoted 48 fan since day one but I wish NONE of them harm nor do I ‘hate’ them, WE dont KNOW them. gesh. keep on racin’ kyle!

  53. dy on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 2:29 pm
  54. Very well said. Everyone has to realize Jr is just that… Jr. he cant BE SR! Heck its amazing he can race at all with all the pressure that goes with the name. I like kyle and Dale,jr. Why? they are nascar racers!!! Lets go racing one more time !!!!!!!!!!!

  55. Bridgett Linville on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 2:38 pm
  56. Dale Jr has the last name, the FAMOUS last name, but, he is his own person. I love Dale jr and NOT kyle busch, i actually cant stand kyle at all, hes an immature whinney butthead, sure the checkered flag to the little girl was a nice thing to do. It would be interesting if he did turn heel, but he will always be a whinney butt. Dale jr does not cry like kyle. He is a great driver he just happens to have the famous last name. Dale is his own person a great person and handles his losses alot better then kyle…keep up the good racing JR

  57. Deborah on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 2:50 pm
  58. Like i said it will not last. When he does not win the next race and he wrecks himself the old Kyle will reappear.

  59. Evie on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 3:00 pm
  60. O’le KY Busch, you just think he grew up,it will last until he looses another race, then back to bein a baby. He won the race and he was happy and Martin didn’t race him hard. Kinda boring race there at the end.

  61. mamadew88 on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 3:10 pm
  62. Hey Neil…. you better see a head doctor and get your brain in gear as you are talking without facts.Jr. never professed to be a “great” driver, but he sure is a good driver with a great personality and that he inherited from his dad, Dale Sr. Brother Busch had an attitude at one time and he got straight by the sheriff in AZ. He needs to get his brother clued in as how a grown “man” is supposed act.

Someday soon someone is going to knock the chip off his shoulder and then maybe he’ll be a better person, but his not that right now.

  63. BJ on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 3:23 pm
  64. Well said Marie. It doesn’t sound like Neil knows all his facts.

  65. BJ on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 3:30 pm
  66. Shrub’s attitude won’t last long. I agree, his body language said it all. First of all Gibbs and NASCAR were getting a lot of flack about the baby and probably decided to sit him down and talk to him. Also, a lot of fans wrote to his candy sponsor and complained. I think the sponsor had a lot to do with it. Also some of the drivers are speaking up about his anger. Busch did not suddenly decide to change on his own!!

  67. Jane on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 4:39 pm
  68. I wish that Martin would have tapped him and took him out. He does it to everone else . Nascar lets him get away with to much and of course he never speeds on pit row. He may be a good driver but he will never be the man Jr. is.

  69. Vicki on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 6:41 pm
  70. It will not last. He is just a hot head. He probably was made to come back out. I really doubt that it was his choice. He is lucky that it wasn’t Jimmie Johnson or Tony Stewart or Brian Vickers behind him. He would not have finished the race.

  71. Vicki on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 6:43 pm
  72. I agree. Jr at least talks to the media on a bad day.

  73. Deborah on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 8:28 pm
  74. You cannot change overnight.

  75. Deborah on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 8:31 pm
  76. Hey Nell
Sounds to me like you are the joke. You do not know a whinney baby when you hear one and that would be cry baby Bush!!!!!

  77. goldie on Mon, 24th Aug 2009 8:36 pm
  78. Well, truth be known, I really wanted Mark to win, but being fair in all this, I have to admit that neither one played “dirty”. I’m sure Martin could have spun Kyle out, but being the racer he is, he will not take someone out under those circumstances and Kyle really did give Mark room to pass, but he just couldn’t make it. Now, back to Jr. he is coming up each week and I know it will not be long before he’s back in his groove!!!

  86. Sorry Nancy, but I disagree with you. Jr. has earned his name and respect from the fans and Hendricks. Hendrick’s was smart to dump Kyle, because of his attitude and lack of respect for the racers, owners, fans, and most of all his childish ways, when something doesn’t go his way, he always blames someone else, never himself. He doesn’t even respect the fans, yes he made one good gesture by giving the girl the flag when he won,WOW. What does he do when he doesn’t win, he snubs everyone, including the fans, real mature. He can’t even get along with his own brother Kurt. Kyle has to grow up, and get rid of the temper. I loved it when Brian Vicker’s said, he didn’t know it was the Kyle Bush Show. He doesn’t deserve to get into the chase this year, maybe next year, if he grows up. Just my view.

  87. Sharon on Wed, 26th Aug 2009 12:07 pm
  88. Nell, Jr. is still a better racer and person than Kyle will ever be. Kyle is a waist, he is a cry baby, never takes responsibility for his bad race day, doesn’t care about his fans, and gets into lots of accidents, because of he causes them. I really can’t understand any sponsor’s that would want their name on his car, he’s an embarrasement. If you think that is a good racer to sponsor, then Nell, go on and sponsor him, it sounds like you would be good company for each other. Go Jr., your still a great racer, Hendrick’s knows this, and so does your fans. You will get your come back, then maybe Kyle will shut up and stop blaming Jr. for Kyle’s own screw ups.
    Sharon

  89. Claudia on Wed, 26th Aug 2009 12:22 pm
  90. Kyle grew up with anger management classes that he was required to take from his sponsors. It was either he change his attitude or would lose his sponsors. He is still the dork that he aways was.

  91. John Gee on Sat, 29th Aug 2009 2:32 am
  92. When did he grow up?!?!? Am I missing something here?, where in what aspect has he grown up, he hasn’t spit that pacifier out yet…

  93. Mama Donia on Sat, 29th Aug 2009 2:45 pm
  94. It’s gonna take more than one time to convince me that Kyle has grown up. Once a cry baby, smart a–, always the same.
