Kyle Busch Doesn’t Want Earnhardt’s Fans

2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Bristol

Kyle Busch had the chance to zing the driver who replaced him at Hendrick Motorsports. He didn’t let the opportunity pass.

Busch doesn’t want to be NASCAR’s most popular driver – a title that Dale Earnhardt Jr. has held for the past six years. He doesn’t care how many hats or t-shirts his fans buy. In fact, Kyle has said he doesn’t even have any fans.

NASCAR executive Kerry Tharp asked Busch if his recent wins had brought him any new fans or helped out with Kyle Busch merchandise sales.

“I haven’t paid attention to the souvenir sales, said Busch. ”I really don’t care about that stuff.”

“There’s probably too much pressure on one guy’s shoulders who doesn’t win very often.” ~ Kyle Busch

The fact is Busch’s souvenir sales are a fraction of what Dale Earnhardt Jr’s or Jeff Gordon’s are. I’m not out there to be No. 1, Kyle Busch said. ”We all know who No. 1 is and forever will be,” he said, talking about Dale Earnhardt Jr.

“I don’t think I would enjoy having the most fans. I think that there’s probably too much pressure on one guy’s shoulders who doesn’t win very often,” said Busch.
That’s some pretty big talk from Kyle Busch.

Earnhardt has 18 wins in Sprint Cup – 4 more than Kyle Busch. The two are tied at 22 wins each in the Nationwide series, but Earnhardt has 2 championships – Busch has none.

Last I checked, Jr. wrecked Brian Vickers and that caused them to wreck Kyle…..seems to me he causes wrecks.

jean, I agree holdheartdly with you. Who wants him? I’ve never realy cared for either of the Busch brothers, but I’m beginnng to feel for Kurt. Remember, he had to grow up with him. This guy couldn’t stand in either of the earndhrdt’s shodows. He does have what it takes to be a driver, but this holier than thou attitude. Just remember, he may need help out on that track one day. But you know Jr will always help. Attitude is everything, so is personality. Maybehe can pcik some up!!!

I must admit, I didn’t like him much until later in the year of 08.I have become a fan, because as Jeff Gordan says, if he is out front, no one can catch him. He said hes the greatest driver around he has driven against.
Jr. may have alot of fans, but he has to get some wins this year, Hendrick can be very fickle if you don’t win or place well. I do hope Mark Martin would have a good season, I believe they all ready have some young one for next year all ready, meaning next calendar year.
I like so many of the racers, that I think it would take away from me enjoying the race, if I only had one fan.

I don’t really have a favorite driver and haven’t for years but I DO like the Hendrick drivers. As far as Kyle Busch, I don’t like his attitude. Don’t get me wrong cause he’s a hell of a driver or he wouldn’t be winning races. He just doesn’t click with a lot of fans. Trouble is, he doesn’t seem to want to try and remedy that and it makes him look even cockier and more aloof from the fans. We’ve all seen drivers over the years get off to a bad start with fan relations but seems like they’ve all mad amends. Perhaps Busch will too. The King was never that way!

I agree with you 100%, I don’t like him ,but he is one hell of a driver. Reminds me a lot of the earlier Jeff Gordon days.You didn’t like him but he was good.

He says this stuff now because he did try and win fans over and be nice for a while and it didn’t work, so he had to go be the bad guy, or atleast try to be, all he is is a joke! Everyone keeps saying what an amazing driver he is, funny he wasn’t this amazing at HMS, why is that?? Everyone keeps saying Jr has the best of everything and is not winning races and their all over him for that, Kyle didn’t have many wins at HMS either, why is that? How did this guy go from a few wins to winning all the time, did he just become an amazing driver over the off season?? Hell no!! Makes u wonder then what it is, doesn’t it?

i totally agree with you! kyle didn’t win at hms. i thought last year his car was not legal. didn’t they find something wrong? i think so!! he was probably cheating! he is so jealous of dale jr. kyle has an attitude problem. he’s mad because hms got rid of him,and got dale jr. he just can’t get over that! didn’t yall hear him on tv when they fired him? he was mad because the got dale jr! that’s the problem with kyle. he will never stand up to dale jr. he’s a earnhardt all the way! his dad did so much for nascar.jr does make money on commericals to. but you never see kyle doing that. he’s to ugly! go dale jr!!!!we love you. alway’s a jr fan

I would not even consider voting for him to be the cockiest driver in NASCAR. I can’t stand him and wish that he would go to some other sport. He is jealous that he is not as popular driver in NASCAR, and know he will never be voted in to it. At least his brother is a better person than he will ever be. Junior fills the stands, turns TVs on by the millions, and sells tee shirts going away. He makes more money in one year than Bush does in 10. If Junio0r quite driving NASCAR would cry. If Bush left we would only have better races. Before the year is out we’ll discover once again why he can run so far out front. His crew will be penalized, and we’ll hear the same ole crap again! Go Junior! The wins will come. Just knock the h–l out of Bush the next time you get a chance. We’ll all know you did not mean too! Just fighting for the same territory.

Put Dale Jr.in Kyle’s ricashaw and he would lap the field, as far as that is concerned any of the drivers could do the same. They can’t tell me that, that car has something that the rest of the field doesn’t have. Kyle’s just like Bill Elliot when he was blowing everything off the track with his Thunderbird, look at him now,he luckey to finish a race . I am a Jeff Gordon fan but I love it when Kyle Bushe wins – go get em Kyle! I think it’s great he is doing so well – even Jeff has good words to say about him. As for Dale Jr. if the fans and media would leave him alone he would probably do better. He isn’t his dad – he has to do things on his own and until everyone stops expecting so much from him, this isn’t going to happen.

Sherry, I believe that Hendrick can be fickle, however, I truly believe Dale Jr. will win this year. Something needs to be done with Ury, Jr. and I think if anyone will be in the hot seat it will be him rather than Dale Jr.

Kyle won’t get Jr.fans. He would love to be in Dale’s shoes so he covers it all up with his belligerence, obnoxious, arrrogant and self-centered nature. Who needs him? Jr. fans don’t!!

Jr. doesn’t win the most popular title year after year because of race wins. Jr. is the most popular driver because of who he is. His character is beyond reproach. It takes Character not being a “character” to win the title. Dale Jr. may not have won many races lately, but he will. But Kyle Busch has not had his character tested as Dale has. Dale has shown beyond a shadow of a doubt that he can handle everything that can be thrown his way. Kyle on the other hand has shown that he is a loser.

I might vote for busch if he got in a hit the wall contest, and only if he were the only one to enter. He has his nose so far up in the air, that if it rained he would drown. Don’t have room in racing for that kind of person. He will never be the best in my book about anything. He doesn’t drive with his head, he just knocks people out of his way. Amen Randy!! That is it in a nutshell! Jr. is going through a rough period for some reason, but he will come through. He is most popular for the exact reason you said…CHARACTER!!
Kyle Busch couldn’t begin to fill Jrs. shoes in that category. I believe Kyle was so mad at being replaced at Hendricks by JR. that it has ate at him ever since. NEVER would I vote for that arrogant smartalec even if he changed his attitude!! Gooooooo Dale Jr!

I agree with most of you about Kyle. He needs to quit whining about everyone else and work on his attitude. Not that he will ever be the most popular, but cleaning up his act might help a little bit, but I doubt it. He is the most unconscious driver I have ever seen. Kudos to Ryan Newman for his 7th place Sunday and he will make a comeback this year. Smoke is my favorite and a lot people don’t like but he is a great driver. “GO SMOKE”!!!!!!

Yes Elaine Smoke is the true face of NASCAR. He’s a racer and so is Ryan. I’m tired of the corporate images so many throw out there. Those corporate images don’t mean a thing to me I want to see the heart of a champion and as much as I dislike Kyle he is showing that heart. I also like Carl Edwards because he is humble and has not forgotten where he came from, just like Smoke and Ryan he’s a racer. Junior is a great young man and he does have great character but I’d like to see him be more about racing and less about the image of a Hendrick Motorsports driver or out having fun. With Smoke you get a pure racer. Someone mentioned Robby Gordon and I agree there as well. He too is a racer and what you see is what you get.

ok now that i can see again all the tears from laughing so hard was blurring my eyesight!! . he has got to be kidding sounds like he is trying to convince himself more then anyone else . I wonder how his so called non fans or followers and sponsors feel about these remarks that he could careless. If what little fans he has left still like him after that remark then there is no words to fit how i would view them ,if my driver ever said that i would take my support of them and their sponsors and go support someone else.

ya know he probably throws a fit every night kicking and crying about it to his rent a girlfriend. he is just a pathetic excuse for a human . if he had a better attitude and was a little humble and didn’t act like such a dipstick he might have alot more fans.

It takes more than wins to make a race car driver. All the drivers want to win but if you don’t have the cars set up right you won’t win. Dale Jr. does the best he can with what he’s given. We’ve all seen how he takes off in the lead whan he has a good car. He has the character that it takes to make a good driver. That is something Baby Kyle will never have. I have never seen Jr stomp off after getting out of his car because his crew made a mistake and he didn’t win the race. You can’t win them all Kyle and if I had my way you wouldn’t win any. Most of the time you just spoil the enjoyment of watching the race.

they have found something wrong they caught his team cheating in the nationwide race last year. But no nascar is not smart if they were they would give us back racing not these dang cookie cutter cars, and bring back racing the way it was in the beginning !!!!

Dale Jr. better be glad is the most popular driver. He sure ain’t no race car driver. He will never be what his dad was. Heck the man can’t even carry on an intelligent conversation in an interview. All he has going for him is his popularity and he got that from standing in his Daddy’s shadow. But I sure ain’t no fan of Kyle Bush either he acts like a spoiled brat. Kasey Kahne will get my vote as most popular driver. He does more with the fans than any driver out there.

Again I agree with Linda. I’ve dealt with those lazy co-workers who copy my work and what do I get? All the jobs that requires someone with brains and brawn. The ones that have to be done because you are the only one who will do it right. In that regard I understand how Kyle does feel. I also agree with the post who said Mr H has shown how fickle he is but I don’t think that will happen because Junior brings in too many sponsor dollars and in this economy that matters most.

First off, Jr is not trying to be his daddy, I don’t know how many times he has to say that, he is his own man, and that’s why ppl love him. You say he’s not a race car driver?? I have to say one thing here Colleen….try to get Junior’s autograph. It’s next to impossible. He won’t sign autographs very often. I have a friend that paid good money to a speedway function thinking she was going to get his autograph. The first thing they said when they got to the function he won’t be signing autographs. That was so misleading. She did get Denny’s autograph and Kenny Schrader’s. The Gibbs drivers have always been good at giving to the fans, including Smoke when he was there. I’ve heard Kyle is very good to the fans and stays later as does Denny. I know Smoke does that. One of the best drivers of late I’ve seen who stops and interacts with fans at the track is Carl and Jeff Gordon is also very good to his fans.

I’ve gotten Dale Jr’s autograph and my picture taken with him twice in the same day with no problems whatsoever. He was more than happy to do it. It was during a test session at Daytona. The only driver that had a “problem” was Jimmy Johnson. As far as Carl…as long as there are camera’s around, he’s as nice as pie. If not….good luck getting him to even look at you.

I’m not a person thats very lucky but I must be luckier then I thought, I have never had a problem getting close to Jr at the track, each race I’ve been too, except Dover when it poured, he signed and for quite a long time(and I have been to many races). One thing ppl have to understand is that he is the busiet driver out there, everyone wants a piece of him, he can’t be everything to everyone or everywhere. I’m sorry your friend thinks she got disceived, maybe she should of complained or maybe she didn’t read what that function actually was, usually it will say if they will sign or not. As far as Gibbs drivers I agree 100% about Tony, I’ve seen him sign many times like Jr. As far as Kyle or Denny, never have I seen either of them sign at any race that I have been too. I also heard a story of a little boy who went and waited in the freezing cold in NY when the banquet was going on to get autographs, the boy asked Kyle and Denny for an autograph, they laughed and kept walking and then got into their car. Doesn’t sound very fan friendly to me. Oh and other drivers did stop for the little boy.. Tells me exactly what kind of ppl Denny and Kyle are.

i beg to differ with u—denny and kyle tony and joey all have been gracious and are quite friendy to their fans and if given time they will talk and sign items remember, they do not have much time at the track when racing with their schedules, inspections, setups, practicing etc so they are limited! i have seem other drivers who blatenly avoid fans and walk past them even when they have the time so and i mean the so called idols who should remember the fans,without us fans no one would attend the races and they woulnt be able to race!

you know some days are just better then others every driver has off days and some have off days 24/7 365 days a year … jr and his crew is not one of them … i know when its not to hectic or if they are to rushed they will interact with fans , sign things , take pics and just BS with ya . jr’s crew and his nationwide crew are awesome ! if they didnt interact with fans why the hellsbells would tony jr hang out and have a beer with people he didnt know on a race weekend jr was on his way but had to go because the Lizards started to swarm like love sick geese .. i have not heard of any other driver and crew just stoping by a camper and sitting down and having a drink !

Actually Jr’s autograph isn’t that hard to get. If you go to his track in Paducah, KY he signs autographs there about 2-3 a year. They give out tickets to get autographs to the first 750 people in the gate. He signs so much stuff and poses for pics. He doesn’t say much, but I probably wouldn’t either if I had to sign that much stuff in a couple of hours. JR FAN FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been here a long time too and I watch at race tracks as Jr. walks by fans especially children. While Kasey always stops and talks with even his youngest fans and signs autographs. Meanwhile Jr. is standing with other drivers ignoring everyone except a TV camera. Jr’s best days are behind him the days when Dale Sr. was here to help him. He has the best equipment he has ever had now with Hendrick and he still can’t win or run consistently. I bet he wont be with Hendrick motorsports very long.

Maybe u caught Jr on a bad day, because I have been to many races where he has signed for long periods of time, longer then other drivers that I have seen. No driver can stop and sign all the time, its impossible and I also have seen Kasey walk pass fans w/o signing, kids included, doesn’t mean he’s ignoring him, they just have other things to do. As far as Jr having the best equipment, so did Kyle when he was at HMS, he was no ball of fire when he was there, nor was Jeff last year, but thats ok because its not Jr. It doesn’t matter what Jr does, its never good enough, or its not right, whatever, Jr fans have learned to live with that. He is the most humble driver out there, he will tell u like it is and is well liked and respected in the garage, can any one say that about Kyle??

You can not give something you haven’t got. Although Kyle has tons of talent and is a force to be reckoned with on the track. Off the track he may suffer from a severe lack of personality. Which Dale has. The media thrives off chaos and drama. Kyle is right, Jr is under a huge amount of pressure. Kyle couldn’t handle it at Hendrick and can’t handle it when he looses. But he drives for JGR not HMS. Two differant types of owners and teams. At least when Kyle is taking cheap shots a Jr he is leaving others alone. Jr can take it. If the roles were reversed I am sure Kyle would spend his life in the hauler crying. Oh! wait he left the track didn’t he…..
Lastly, Jr will win more races and hopefully another championship, only this time in sprint cup. I doubt Rick will let this whole season go like it has started for long without making a few changes. I am sure the heat is already being felt.

I am a huge Dale Junior fan from Canada and in my opinion Kyle could win every race there is and Dale Junior could lose every race and his fans will still stick by him and love him no matter what.

Kyle is just jealous of Junior and all of the fans that he has.

Wonder how Kyle feels when the crowd in the stands go mad whenever Dale goes in the lead.

I have a big fleece 88 blanket on my hall wall in my house and the license plate above it and i have number 8 on my van and when i get a new vehicle i will be putting the 88 license plate on and will be sooo proud to have it on.

I wish they would not put so much pressure on Dale.
Time for them to put the pressure on Kyle and see how he takes it, lol

We already saw last year what he does under pressure. Didn’t do squat in the last 10 races. I think a different driver each week should put him in the wall. I just finished reading all the comments so far and I have just a couple comments to make. 1. Who does Busch think he is kidding when he says he is not interested in fans or the merchandise part of the business. When it comes down to it, this is a job, they are there to make money, whether by racing, sponsors, merchandise or whatever and he need not try and convince anyone he just does not care. As for Busch ever being Most Popular Driver, I would vote for Brian Vickers first and I simply cannot stand Vickers since Dega in 06 and again at Daytona this spring. Busch does not have the fan base DEJ will and he might as well keep his mouth shut and get on with it. Even a personality change will never cause me to cheer for the 18. 2. I think we should all sstop comparing Dale, Jr. with Dale, Sr. as far as I can see, they are not alike, Dale, Jr. needs to find his own way and he will.. Get off his back you non-nation members. Perhaps this is why The wicked stepmother had such comments about Dale, Jr. Perhaps she couldn’t tell him what to do like his dad. I don’t know, just a thought. We all have slumps….this is Dale’s turn. I just hope that a new love would enter his life………nothing like a wife nagging you into a win. As you can see, we are all making a mountain out of nothing that we can change. I just hope that Mr Hendrick can find out what’s needed, after all…Junebug works for him! Somehow I have ended up having problems myself, as I still make monthly payments on my #8 leather Bud jacket.

I’m so tired of this kid Kyle Busch, what a drama queen. He’s either wrecking somebody or opening up his rat faced mouth about things that have absolutly nothing to do him (just like a little girl). It’s blatantly apparent that he hates jr for no reason! Other than the fact that he is extremely jealous of Lil E for reasons that are unknown. Get over it Rat Boy!!! All I know for sure is he is F#$%ING hated down here in the great state of Texas. If I was him I would seriously think about getting some bodygaurds when he comes down here.

Kasey Kahne?? Does more with the fans than Jr???? Where? Id love to know….Ive never heard of him doing anything with the fans and he is always so miserable. And Kyle, he is just a LOSER with a Big L!! And with everyone hating him who is going to buy anything from his sponsors? If I were his sponsors I would drop him because he is a Liability and not an asset to the companies. I myself have not bought anything from his sponsors on purpose. I will not support anything that supports Kyle Bush!!

Kyle who?…Kyle is just a child who hasnt grown up yet. There are 43 drivers in a race and only one winner, and lots of them talk after the race win or loose, except Kyle, he walks away sulking, he should take some lessons from Joe Gibbs on personality. He has the audacity to talk about Jr., when in fact maybe the media should ask him about his poor performance when he was with the Hendrick organization. I am sure he will point the finger at someone other than himself. He is a menace on the track, NASCAR should do something about it. Joey Logano has more common sense than Kyle, he took responsibility for hitting Kyle in the Nationwide race on 5/29/2009, when in fact it was a tire on Kyle’s car that was the problem, but Kyle still pulled his sulking routine and ran from the media. His name should be JERKOFF Busch. He will never hold a candle to any Earnhardt or any other driver in NASCAR for that matter, and if he ever went away, nobody would miss him.

Nancy, you should really get a life. Let’s face it, you’re excited when bush wins because Jeff has only won one race in how many races now? But then again it takes a Gordon fan to say something so silly. No one has said bush can’t drive, we’ve been saying he just a jackass and a jealous one at that.
Jr. Nation isn’t looking for folks who are fans when he wins only, we’re our own Nation and we want folks who are lifers, who believe in our driver and who can take the good with the bad.
