Jimmie Johnson Greatest All Time
Is Jimmie Johnson the Greatest of All Time?

Jimmie’s fans apparently think he is the greatest. His fan base is growing daily. Kyle Busch fans are tossing their No. 18 hats in the trash and buying No. 48 hats. Jeff Gordon fans are donating their No. 24 t-shirts to the Salvation Army and buying Jimmie Johnson shirts.
One Dale Earnhardt Jr fan even had her tattoo redesigned from No. 88 to No. 48. I never thought I would see the day when a Junior fan would switch to Johnson.
“Over the last couple years my fan base has grown leaps and bounds,†said the 4 time Champion in a matter of fact way.
“And then within our sport, I’m racing with some of the great, and there is different reasons why guys are popular. Junior’s success and Junior’s popularity is there for a lot of different reasons. One way people measure things is based on souvenir sales, and our souvenir sales is one of the few that has been showing an increase.â€
“I’m very proud of the fan base that I have. It’s a very large fan base, and it’s growing rapidly.â€
Jimmie Johnson has a record that no one in the 61 year history of NASCAR can match – 4 straight championships.
Sure, Richard Petty has more, but not 4 in a row.
Dale Earnhardt has 7 to match Petty, but not 4 straight.
Jeff Gordon has 4 – but not in 4 consecutive years.
Johnson does not have the most wins. But at 47 career victories he is ranked 11th on the NASCAR All Time Win List. And Jimmie Johnson is nowhere near retirement. He still has plenty of winning left to do.
So far in his career Johnson has averaged 5.8 wins per year. At that rate he will pass David Pearson’s record of 105 wins by the time he is 44 years old. Pearson raced until he was 51 and ranks No. 2 on the All Time Win List.
Johnson will never pass Richard Petty for the top spot at 200. But you have to consider that Petty would run as many as 61 races per year. Johnson only gets 36.
So is Jimmie the Johnson the Greatest of All Time? If not Johnson, who?

Jimmie Johnson is only as good as his Chad but he is talented. All I have to say to a lady that changed her #88 tattoo is that she is really not a true fan of Jr’s if she did that. True fans stick by their drivers regardless of bad seasons and they all have them. Wonder if she will change it back if JJ has a bad year!!!!!!!

I wouldn’t go so far as to change any tatoos or my loyalty to the driver that I have the most faith in for all these many years. It’s like having a relationship with a dear friend and all of the sudden they fall on hard times and you bail out on them. Don’t get me wrong…Jimmy is a great driver like so many before him and a good crew chief, but in the game of racing, it will not last forever and someone else will take his place and his fans will remain loyal until the end of his reign. Now we will see who the next Champion will be in 2010

Let’s try Chad Knaus with Dale Earnhardt Jr. for a few races and see what happens. Jimmie and Chad are both a dedicated and winning team.

Funny how Jimmie shows up next to last in the most popular driver poll. Jr. again is 1st by many. Also, had to be one of the only Jr. fans to change their colors. Like the above fan mentioned, you stick with your driver through good times and bad, kind of like in a marriage. I have noticed alot of “48″ fans since he took the 4th title. Those are considered fence sitters. Just depends on which way the wind is blowing that day. Don’t get me wrong, he is very talented. But please don’t compare him to Sr., the cars are so much different these days, not to mention the pit crews, crew chief, etc., You just can’t compare the 2!

I do believe that it was Jr that compared JJ to his dad. Seems to me that your favorite driver(Jr) knows a little more than his fans do about how good JJ is. What’s up with that?
[Reply]
Here here penny no she is not a true Dale Jr. fan that is for sure ..why in the world would anyone change a tattoo just to suit a new driver such as JJ ..As for JJ saying his fans are jumping leaps and bounds I have talked to a few of his fans that say they are leaving his fan base because of his arrogance and high feeling ways and not being good with his fans like other drivers are so watch out JJ your fan base is not half what Jr.’s is and will never be ..Jr. is the man ..
[Reply]
His arrogance makes me sick! I would never switch from driver to a driver like him. I would quit watching the sport before I would call myself a fan of the Johnson! If the dominance continues I may quit anyways, I am sick of media singing his praises every week!

You Jimmie Johnson fans are a bunch of whiners and chumps who most likely do not even have a real life,do you? I bet you Johnson fans would not know how to do a compression check on an engine, or let alone a proper oil change.I bet you ‘ die hard’ Jimmie Johnson fans do not even know the differences between the old school small block chevy engine and the metric small block chevy engines do you?? I could go on this for a long time because you bunch of ballbabies forget that it takes a good team of engine builders, transmission builders and mechanics that leave nothing to chance to name a few to make them cars run.
[Reply]
There is no way in Hell that I would change a tattoo from 88 to 48 or even 24. I think that the Crew Chief is the power force behind the championships – I will acknowledge that Jimmie is a very nice guy & a good driver, but how about Mark Martin! This old Grandma still loves #88 – Junebug – Dale Jr. Happy Thanksgiving to all you (my crazy fellow race fans) .

Jr you and #1 always
[Reply]
Jimmie certainly is one of the greatest of all time. He has been my driver since I first started watching NASCAR and he always will be if he never wins another race. I do agree that once you bond with a driver, then you should stick with them no matter. I don’t see why we have to run down one driver to build another one up though. I really like Dale Jr and wish him the best next year. I like a lot of the drivers. I just like JJ best.

[Reply]
I agree totally with Penny.
You dont watch NASCAR to watch the same team
win over and over. You watch to see your driver
race with the talent he has. I have been a Stewart fan for 11 years and I have tuned in to watch him through all of his ups and downs. If someone changes their tatoo just because your driver has a bad year then I suggest she buys stock in a tatoo parlor and forget buying tickets to the races (if she does).
[Reply]
In the 61 year history of NASCAR Jimmie Johnson
is the only driver with 4 back to back champion
ships so yes I will say he’s a great driver and
the whole 48 team rocks. I like both J.J. and
Dale Jr. so I don’t have any sarcastic remarks
to make about either driver. They both are
special in their own ways. Jimme Johnson and
the 48 team made history and they deserve the
glory for it. Dale Jr. is young enough to
accomplish a lot in NASCAR yet so let’s give
him a chance to see what the future holds for
him. I’ll give any driver credit for what he
accomplishes in NASCAR whether I’m a fan of his
or not. “Happy Thanksgiving” to everyone.

Bravo! Why does Jimmie’s doing so well have to be compared to SR and JR all the time? I love them both as well but JJ is my favourite driver. The Hendricks team is my fav team. Also, when SR or any one else won championship, did everyone say ‘well its because the crew cheif is so good is all”. I disagree w the person who changed their tat. Like of devotion for sure. I will love Jimmie or JR regardless of how many races they win. I saw someone say he is arrogant, I don’t see that at all. He is from Cali so he doesnt have that typical good ole boy charm as most drivers who are from the south. But plenty of others aren’t from the south either. Jimmie is a good person with his charities etc as well as on the track. Thats all I know, as any of us do, since it isnt like we hang out with all of them. At least they arent in the headlines everyday for abuse/drinking/drugs etc etc like all the other athletes. Shew……. having Nascar withdrawals already and its only been a week! MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! Hope you have a New Year filled with Green Flags, Pit Stops and victory spin outs!
[Reply]
No, Jimmie Johnson definitely is not the greatest of all time. Yes, he is a good driver but it is Chad who makes that team so good. As far as changing a tattoo from 88 to 48, that is stupid. If you like a driver, you will remain loyal to that driver through thick and thin, bad years as well as good years; you don’t change and make someone your favorite simply because he wins races or championships. Dale Jr. is my favorite and always will be, even if he never wins another race. Of course, I hope he wins lots of races but I will be loyal to him even if he doesn’t.
[Reply]
Jimmie is a good driver and a very nice person. He has the best of everthing but no one can ever take the Dale Jr. place. I watched Jr. grow up to the man he is today. He can drive a race car he just needs better people on his team. Maybe next year he can win some races. GO JR.
[Reply]
I think that they are all good drivers but Jr. is my favorite and always will be. The media needs to quit building certain drivers egos and not others. The media is just like kids in High School, give you nothing but peer pressure and that is not good for a driver. Just stick with your driver no matter who he is and like I said, mine is JR.

Jr has been going down hill the last few years. No wins this year, one last year. one or two before that. Time to climb off Dad’s shoulders and he just doesn’t get the job done, Look at the other three drivers in the stable they have done well JR either argues with his crew chief or blows engines or what ever. Starts out fast but as the race goes on and gets near the end he keeps retreating farther and farther back. Will end up just like Richard Petty’s son and also ran racer.

Well wow, I have to agree with some many that she may not be a true jr fan for changing her tattoo to a 48. Sure Johnson is good but at the same time he shows it just like Kyle does. There day will come when they wont be as good and things will go down hill. But you know at times I think they give all the good motors and stuff to Johnson and Jr gets the left overs which in my book isnt right either.
But lets just wait till next year and see who is at the top. always have and always will be a #88 fan

Rick Hendricks has nothing to gain by giving Jr inferior equipment. Why would he do that after giving Jr all that money to drive for him?
[Reply]
STOP,wait a minute, when JJ can come from 17
place with 12 lap to go. and do it with out any
caution flags. then you could say he ia a great
driver. DALE did it in 2000 at Talla 500, face
it Dale was the best among the best nacar driver.
[Reply]
I’m a Jeff Gordon fan, but I’ve liked JJ ever since he come up. He’s young enough to break every record out there except 200 wins because they just don’t run as many races per season like they used to. I’d love to see Chad with Jeff. Who know’s what would happen. But the driver has to mesh with the crew chief, and Jimmy and Chad definitely work, and don’t forget that Rick Hendrick kept them together a couple of years ago before Jimmy won his first title. I don’t care how great the crew chief is, if the driver doesn’t have the talent it won’t matter, and ”Jimmy’s got It”. Drive for five Jimmy or Jeff. I hope you both get em!!

[Reply]
God can’t any of you Dale Jr. fans get it? He isn’t Dale Sr. and never will be!If you put him in the 48 with Chad K. as his crew chief he’d still be an “also ran”. What happens when he misses the pit box “again” or tries to leave the pit to early when the car refires and doesn’t build up his fuel pressure. Jimmy Johnson is a true champion. He is a professional and shows it. Yes Chad K. is a great crew chief but friends he isn’t out there steering the wheel at 200 mph. Let’s recognize that the two of them together JJ & Chad are magical and compliment one another. Junior needs to leave Hendrick and go with the washed up team his dad drove for, the “famous” RCR, so they can all live in the past on Dale Sr.’s laurels and rape all you idiots that would fill their pockets with new souvenir purchases!!!

Pegi,
I was at Daytona in 1959 when the track opened, I’ve been a NASCAR fan longer than you are old I guarantee. What you’re seeing today isn’t racing, I’ve seen racing and Dale Jr. is just a kid riding on his daddy’s name. The COT is a joke, the Chase is a joke and Brian France and NASCAR “today” is a joke. I pray it can get back to the way it used to be when racers were racers and $$$$ were not such a factor in the sport!!!
[Reply]
Lordy, Lordy, let’s give credit where credit is due. JJ has done what no other driver has done, so that in itself is something to be proud of. On the other hand, you really need to place “lady luck” in JJ’s corner, and that certainly plays a big part in any race. Now, bless Jr.’s heart, he has had no luck this year. It seems everything that can happen to him has happened and that’s just life. It takes nothing away from him being a terrific driver. He is still one of the best and will prove it in 2010. We faithful fans are still faithful and pulling for you,so have a good time off and we’ll be waiting for you next year.
[Reply]
Jr all the way, He is still a great driver every bit as good as Jimmy. Luck just hasnt been with him. Maybe if he was given the equipment, team and car as JJ he would do better, possible. But even still Jr is #1 he is my driver all the way. It was nice to see JJ do it and it was good to see Hendricks 1,2,3 in points. Jr has alot of years yet and one day he will do even better. Good Luck Jr and go get em.

Its like this, once you start with a Earnhardt, you will never change to any other driver, I was caround when Ralph Earnhardt was driveing, Back when the Telvisions was Black and white, Then came the color Tvs Thats when Dale Earnhardt Sr started driveing and everything was color, My grandparents could not drag me away fron the tv set, later on in years, Came Young Dale Jr, That was A challange between the Father and Son, It Was exciting And Still to this day its exciting, Never change colors and Never change A Earnhardt for any othewr driver.
[Reply]
Jr is popular, because of his true fans, he don’t need to ride on anybody elses name. Hes as much his own man, as any other driver. The tatoo lady, tatoo’s are permanent, if you changed it to 48, then 88 wasn’t a for sure thing to start with. You back a driver threw the good, & the bad times, , that’s what true 100% fans do.
[Reply]
GO JR! GO Jimmie! Why can’t you just root for both? They both drive chevys that’s all that matters
[Reply]
Donating my Jeff Gordon No. 24 t-shirts to the Salvation Army and buying Jimmie Johnson shirts. Please. That would be like turning in my Yankee shirt for one from the Red Sox. If Jeff quit tomorrow I would not by a Jimmie shirt. Jimmie is not the greatest driver of all time; he is the most successful driver of this time. There was a time when people drove their cars to the race and did much if not all of the work on their cars. Eras can’t really be accurately compared.

I still think Jimmie and Chad are cheating, but NASCAR wanted to let them win 4 in a row to make the sport look good and to finally have a new record that NASCAR never had before.
