Is Talladega Still Exciting?

Talladega is usually my favorite race track – but Sunday’s Amp Energy 500 was a long stretch of boredom interrupted occasionally by sheer terror.

The track officials at Talladega went as far as to get an Indian medicine man to remove any curses on the speedway on Wednesday before the race. How did that work? Not so good.  I hope they can get their money back.

NASCAR’s new smaller restrictor plate combined with a last minute rule against bump drafting left drivers unable or unwilling to race. For most of the day they looked like Sunday drivers on I-20 rather than professional race car drivers at what should be the world’s fastest speedway.

Even Mark Martin said this was not a race. “Its not racing it’s just a different word and I don’t have a word for it,” said Martin.

Tony Stewart asked for someone on the team to tell him something – anything – on the radio to keep him entertained.

Kevin Harvick asked if his car had cruise control that would make his job a little easier. And that was while he was leading.

Ryan Newman was not happy with the way the race was run – even after flipping his car and having to be cut from the wreckage. “I wish NASCAR would do something. It was a boring race for the fans,” said Newman.

“We’re supposed to be racing all day long and I believe we’ve lost a little bit of that luster.” ~ Ryan Newman

“We’re supposed to be racing all day long and I believe we’ve lost a little bit of that luster.”

The crowd had a few reasons to cheer today. When Ryan Newman was cut from his badly wrecked race car and climbed out a huge roar erupted. The same thing happened every time Dale Earnhardt Jr took the lead.

But what kind of race is it when your championship leader rides around at the back of the field all day? When race cars look like they are in a parade – not a race?

Did you think the Talladega race was exciting?

In plain words, Nascar is ruining racing all together, I will be surprised is Nascar is around in a few years, yes today was boring, the first race I watched on TV in awhile that I fell asleep to…
Ditch the goofy rules and lets get back to where it used to be!!!

  2. The race was okay, but we have local racing that is as exciting as today’s race was. It was good to see Jr. in the lead now and then, and the NASCAR guys are seeming to lose interest. What’s going to happen next? Come on, let’s see some real racing for a change.

  4. NASCAR SUCKS WHY DON’T THOSE JERKS COME OUT OF THEIR CAGES AND DRIVE THESE STUPID THINGS THEY CALL CARS…..GO DALE JR

  5. Mark Rosen on
  6. I could not agree with John Gee’s comment any more. He nailed it right on the head! Nascar needs to go back the way it was when Bill France Jr was in charge. But then again racin just ain’t the same with out Dale Earnhardt Sr!

  7. Danny on
  8. Nascar has ruined this sport. I think I would been happier wathing replays of the race. But as usual 48 comes out smelling like rose? The chase should be tossed! Lets get back to the root of this sport, RACING, where the fastest guy wins !

  10. Was there a race to-day,all I saw were a bunch of nice shiny car’s going around in a circle >>But when Ryan crahed I relized that it was a Nascar Race

  12. glad Jr. did okay today, at least he didn’t crash

  14. It was like watching grass grow. Sorry but the excitement is gone. Nascar is ruling itself right out of business in my estimation.

  16. I think it was believed slower cars are safer cars well now what we had 2 differant accidents within 20 laps where cars ended up on their roofs I say take off the plates and let them run nothing seems to satisfy nascar its suppose to be racing so let them race and maybe the pack will break up a bit

  17. Ed.Garbacik on
  18. The race was plain crap. Thanks to Nascar’s new plate and don’t do this or we will slap your hands rules.Instead of giving the drivers more power so they can get out of the way of trouble, they take power away so they can play follow the leader and get flip over a few times so they can land on their roofs. That makes it a lot easier to get out of the car when your on your roof. What JERKS.

  20. Was glad Ryan was fine and Jr. did okay today. I doubt if Dale Sr. would have approved of this race. Wouldn’t you have loved to have heard his comments?

  22. HELL NO NASCAR SUCKS. MIKE HELTON GOT WHAT HE ASK FOR. ALMOST GOT 1 KILLED. LIKE NEWMAN SAID LET EM RACE. CANT BE NO MORE DANGERIOUS. NEXT YR LETS HAVE THE GO-CARTS OUT THERE WE WANT NEED ANY NO-DOES.
GO TO HELL NASCAR. IM SELLING ALL MY STUFF. ATLEAST NOW I CAN MAKE MONEY OFF YOUR STUPID CRAP INSTEAD OF GOING BROKE BUYING IT. $20,000 SHOT TO HELL

  23. kent on
  24. AMEN JUDY MY EXACT FEELINGS HE PROBABLY LOOKED AT HELTON AND SHOT HIM A BIRD

Get rid of the plates, get rid of the chase, the fastest car wins, the guy with the most points at the end of the year wins the championship!!!

  25. BillB on
  26. That race was about the most boring thing I have seen and I have seen a lot of NASCAR races through my 85 years. Wake up NASCAR and let these drivers race not parade around a 2 mile plus track.

  27. Shelley on
  28. NASCAR says that it that racing is for the fans. NO ITS NOT. NASCAR needs to quit changing the rules. THE FANS WANT TO SEE REAL RACING…NOT THE CRAP LIKE TODAY. If NASCAR does not go back the REAL RACING there won’t be a NASCAR in 2-3 years. The fans are getting fed up with all the BS from NASCAR.
LET THE BOYS RACE THE WAY THEY WANT TO…THE WAY IT USED TO BE!!

  29. BillB on
  30. I do agree with John Gee above. Let them race.

  32. I think today’s race wasn’t as exciting till the end, I could’ve been outside racking leaves like rest of the neighbors were doing. I did watch the race, all of it, then the last 5-10 laps excitment started. So glad Ryan wasn’t hurt badly, then 2-3 laps later, Mark Martin goes flying in the air. Glad he is fine. NASCAR need to stay out, there rules just BITE, they are STUPDID.

  33. harry kimmey on
  34. I SAID THE RACE WOULD BE BORRING AS USUAL AT THAT TRACK. I WENT OUTSIDE TO NOT WASTE A DAY WATCHING LEFT TURN LEFT TURN. I WAS RIGHT FROM LAP 4 TO 183 WE JUST RIDE ARROUND AND PUSH EACH OTHER AND LISTEN TO MIKE JOCKEYS. WE WENT FOR A RIDE AND CAME BACK AFTER THE RACE WAS OVER. CHECKED ON COMPUTER AND WAS CAUGHT UP ON RACE IN 5 MINUTES OR SO , WATCHED THE LAST FEW LAPS AND ATE DINNER. NEED TO MOVE THAT RACE TO KY.MOTOR SPEEDWAY. A REAL TRACK TO RACE AT AND THE DRIVERS LIKE IT. LOOK AT THE AMOUNT OF SEATS EMPTY AGAIN. I THINK THEY SAID 60000 AT THE TRACK,SEATS ALL OVER. I THINK MOST OF THE DRIVERS ARE PUPPETS OF NASCAR RULES.MAYBE SOMEONE WILL STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND MAKE RACING BETTER.

  36. Today’s race Was like most of the races this year Boring, as a fan and season ticket holder for two different tracks I pay to see a race, not 43 cars in a line let the boys race like they use to, beaten and bangin
safty is good but racing is what we all go to see

  37. Evie on

  42. I WAS AT THE SPRING RACE. WHAT IS WRONG WITH NASCARS BRAIN ? N/A OH ! that was the worst race i ‘ ve seen in a long time. more rules, least action ! ryan newman is right !

  43. Tom Gleason on
  44. Brian France and Mike Helton have done a FANTASTIC job of turning Ralph Dale Earnhardt Sr’s sport into something that Vince McMahon can be very proud of. I too will be selling every bit of my NASCAR diecasts on ebay with the exception of my Dale Sr stuff. He was the LAST AMERICAN HERO (besides our boys overseas).

  45. scott on
  46. This race is my last one and now I do believe that it is who pays the most money gets the breaks

  47. BadBob on
  48. Nascar is beginning to become like our countries government, putting on more restrants that the drivers can’t drive competatively. The race was boring on the whole, the only thing that spiked it us was the two wrecks and those should not be the impressive part of a race. Nascar keeps telling the drivers how to drive their cars.

  49. susan gasparrelli on
  50. I did’t think it was as exciting! I think with the new cars, like they are & the new bump rule it was very boring, I slept thru most of it!

  51. BadBob on
  52. Dale Jr. drove more like he used to in this race and now that he has a perminant crew chief, maybe this will help start him and his team to the top.

  53. Smoky on
  54. Amen! John Gee I kept my leaderboard up and listened to Smoke on the scanner but watched the Colts game. It was by far more entertaining. It was the worst race I’ve seen at Talladega. It sucked and NASCAR is ruining the sport. They can’t get rid of the restrictor plate they need to come up with another solution for one get rid of that stupid wing. I sure won’t be paying much attention the next three races. What a bore. What is it that Danny brings up that Jimmie falls in a pile and comes out smelling like a rose. Toss the chase! Congrats to Jamie McMurray and I hope you land back with Chip and are teammates with Juan next year. That was the only thing good about the race seeing a nice guy like Jamie win.

  55. Troy on
  56. AMEN; I couldn’t have said it better myself!!

  58. The race really sucked and they made rule changes before the race to ensure jimmy johnson to lock up his bologna championship I talk to one of the well known drivers from time to time and he said lowes puts the most money in racing and they call the shots and now I believe it

Yes, watching the cars ride around the track single file was definitely boring. Does Jimmy Johnson think he is RACING by riding around at the back of the pack most of the race? And he gains points by doing this? And then they will name him chamption and give him all that money. For what?

  59. harry kimmey on
  60. I MUST SAY I JUST READ ALL THE COMMENTS AND I MUST SAY ALL FANS ARE FED UP AND NEXT WILL BE THE SPONSORS AND THAT MEANS THE GLORY RIDE IS OVER FOR NASCAR.MONEY IS THE NAME OF THE GAME,LIKE I SAID TO MANY ON THE HIGH PAY ROLL,LOOKS LIKE 2 TO 3 YEARS AND BOTTOMS UP IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE.WHO WOULD OF THOUGHT GM WOULD GO BELLY UP?

  61. Smoky on
  62. Just like Larry Mac just said on the Victory Lane show. There are too many rules and it’s put them all in this tiny little box and it’s ruining the sport. I’m beginning to think Jimmie must have a four leaf clover sewn in his driver’s suit or something because he can fall in a pile of shit and come out smelling like a rose. What the heck is up with that?

  63. Debbie Roberts on
  64. NASCAR better start listening to the likes of Newman, Earnhardt Jr, Gordon, et al. They are obviously getting fed up, and the new, even smaller restrictor plate is absolutely the dumbest idea they’ve had yet. If The Intimidator were still alive, he would have Helton’s head on a platter. I would not be surprised if some of these guys start their own racing association independent of NASCAR. It would serve them right for not listening to the drivers who know more about what’s needed to safely drive a car than some suit sitting in a fancy office calling himself the czar of NASCAR. Pitiful.

  65. scott on
  66. race really sucked and they made rule changes before the race to ensure jimmy johnson to lock up his bologna championship I talk to one of the well known drivers from time to time and he said lowes puts the most money in racing and they call the shots and now I believe it

I’m with you Marge….WHAT WILL THEY CHANGE NEXT? The only thing I found exciting was watching Junior up front for a change.I do believe NASCAR will make many more changes to the point where we will just stop going to the track and change the channel on the TV to another sporting event.
WHO COMES UP WITH THESE NEW RULINGS ???????
Whoever it is needs to get a life, sometimes you can ruin a good thing by trying to make it better. As my Dad taught me….if it works, DON’T CHANGE IT.

  68. AMEN JUDY AND KENT. VERY GLAD JR. DID OK AND WASN’T IN THE CRASHES. DALE,SR. WOULD HAVE GONE IN ON THE TOP BRASS. I HAVE BEEN GOING TO RACES SINCE THE MID 60′S, NASCAR HAS RUINED WHAT BIG BILL INTENDED FOR IT TO BE. I’M GLAD THE CARS ARE MUCH SAFER BUT SOMETHING HAS GOT TO BE DONE ABOUT THE RESTRICTOR PLATE RACES, WAY TO BUNCHED UP, THAT’S NOT RACING.

  69. Smoky on
  70. Yes glad Ryan was fine. The reason they police it so is because of what Ryan said–there isn’t a lot of respect amongst the drivers. Go Ryan there is no respect from NASCAR to the drivers either–so this crap continues, racing gets boring and it’s no fun to watch.

  71. Susan on
  72. NASCAR choreographed that race, our first time at Dega. It was such a disappointment we won’t be returning. I can nap at home without paying $120.

  73. AZomah on
  74. It was overly long and very boring. My driver and others were bored stiff. The most excited I heard him get was when his team mate dumped him. There is not to much we can do, the folks at NASCAR, sponsors, & one team owner that I am familiar with just don’t care about the fans. I don’t think they know that we are consumers and can stop consuming. All those empty seats are being blamed on the economy, they completely ignore the low tv ratings that keep getting lower. The people I feel bad for are the ones that work at the track and try so hard to see that we have a good time. The white lightnin drivers are doing flip flops. The revenuers are winning.

  75. Mr Ed on
  76. What a boring race to say the least. We have better and more exciting dirt track races out here in Texas. NASCAR is going to ruin the sport if they keep on changing the stupid rules every time you turn around. Get rid of those damn restrictor plates and let them race. I have never seen cars so bunched up like they are.
Like I said, NASCAR is going to ruin the sport if they aren’t careful.

  80. This race was crap! The most boring except the very last 20 laps! That’s not racing! Mike Helton needs to go as he is dictating racing like the France family does! We need to have a committee to dictate NASCAR rules, not a family! I waisted several hours of my time watching cars drive single file around a race track like a boring parade! It’s time NASCAR wake up and listen to the fans and drivers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  81. EJ on
  82. Nascar sucks. And to think people paid good money to watch cars parade round and round for a few hours…The rules makers at Nascar is ruining the sport and they are wondering why the attendance is down at all of the tracks…I can tell them why….they caused this problem….let them race….I know I love Talladega, but I will never go to a race there to watch a parade of 43 cars going round and round with no excitement.
Wake up Nascar before it is too late if it is not too late already.

  83. Laura on
  84. If nascar does not see the problem they are causing maybe they should take a look at the stands. There were so many empty seats. I was at the Dover race in Sept and had two tickets to sell. No one would buy them. Said they could not resell them because fewer people were coming to the races. The races are boring and way to expensive. I agree with some of the other comments there will be no nascar in a couple of years if they dont let these drivers go back to real racing and stop sticking their nose in everything. I am total sick of Jimmie Johnson. Even tho he was not at the front of the pack because he was scared to get caught up in the BIG one he was still the topic of conversation all afternoon. Why is it Hendricks has so much money but I only see it being spent on one driver. Go figure. I love Jr and I am glad he had a good day.

  85. Doloras on
  86. Well I enjoyed the race. My name was on Dale Jr.’s car. There was some exciting parts and some boring parts, but at my age I find that true with just about anything. I was very happy that Dale Jr. did so well. NASCAR just worries about the drivers, they don’t care about the fans. The Drivers care about the fans and so it should be. I believe that its going to get better, I don’t know who or what is ging to happen I just believe with so many fans, its got to get better. GO DALE JR.!!!!

  87. Terri on
  88. NASCAR better wake up before they have no fans left at all.

  89. bruce on
  90. This is a joke. Dale Sr would roll over then str NASCAR out. Today’s F1 was more exciding. This whole NASCAR thing just makes this 50 year fan sick. Thanks that Eldora is only a hour drive for me. Going back to the grass roots racing.

  91. Mike Bright on
  92. I won’t ever go back. last year we parked across the street hoping to get out quicker. They locked the gate and refused to open it until all the lots on the track side were released. Nascar has already lost my business. Its sad the Frances took a perfectly good business and ran it in the ground. It will be over soon. Sponsors are paid by the fans. As if nascar has forgotten who pays the bills. I even think that the drivers could start another business. The fans would follow the owners and drivers. Screw NASCAR

  93. Kay on
  94. What has happened to racing? Nascar is killing it. The fans aren’t happy the drivers aren’t happy .. There wont be any fans left if they keep it up. Yes there needs to be rules. The officals can make the rules on the safty standards and motors of the cars, but leave the driving to the drivers. They have made the cars so safe now, why are they restricting the drivers from driving? do they not have faith in their own standards? Lots of fantastic wreaks since Dale Sr. but who has died or was seriously injured since, it is in the safty of the cars… not the rules. Stop making the rules and let them drive.

  95. Mike Bright on
  96. Notice when Newman wrecked and was complaining about the restrictor plates that the NASCAR NAZI’s broke his antena off so he could not be heard…Hell he will probably be fined for speaking up.

  97. Mike Bright on
  98. If we hit the spnsors in their wallets things we change…heads will roll and Big head Helton will go away. dale sr will strike him dead from the grave!

  99. Lucy on
  100. Amen, I agree. The drivers should start their own thing. Funny how that rule was made right before the race so no one could do anything about it…. fan count would have been way down…. the drivers didn’t have time to get it together to do anything. It’s strange they did this as I feel it was to protect certain drivers in the chase and to keep others from catching up in points or passing in points. It’s fixed,,,,,!

Debbie girl, you hit the nail on the head. What’s to stop some dude with money starting their own racing association and selling shares to the general public, with a board that will have a vote as to what changes are “neccesary” and what the general public wants to see happen. The problem with NASCAR is that it is family driven to the point of being a family dynasty with no corporate rules.
What would happen if became public ???????

  101. Angel for Jr on
  102. The race really sucked today. Whom ever the idiot is that is constantly changing the rules needs to either step down or get his head out of his ass and quit screwing around with the rules. I noticed so many empty seats in today’s race. What’s is gonna take for this idiot to realize he is messing with the driver’s paychecks if the fan base keeps getting smaller and smaller until there is nothing left. Some of these drivers need to grow some balls like Dale Earnhardt Sr. had and get together and confront this idiot before they are all out of a job. I am glad I was not able to afford the ticket, hotel, and air fare for this weekend. I saved myself a lot of money. If it keeps up like this, I will not attend the other 3 races I usually go to each year. Keep it up! See where it gets you. You screwed up the rules again and this time there were 2 roll overs. How do you feel now?
So glad Ryan Newman and Mark Martin are ok. And gooooooooooooooooooooooo Jr. You looked awesome up there today!!

  104. worse race i ever seen go back to the old cars with lots of hp with big wings the car of tomorrow sucksnow you cant bumb draft noone can pull away from the packso this is how the race is won now he who gets pushed the hardest on the straight away the hardest winS???? AT LEAST WITH THE OLD CAR YOU COULD SIDE DRAFT WITH THIS NEW CAR YOU CANT EVEN DO THAT. By the way i also fell asleep watching the cars parade around the track it did look like a expressway on a sunday drive..

  106. It was the MOST BORING NASCAR Race I have ever watched. If this continues as everyone has said NOONE will be going or watching NASCAR. NASCAR needs to let the drivers race. That is what the fans pay to see. I don’t see any good coming from this.

  107. Max on
  108. Todays race…ha!!! More excitement in watching paint dry. If Jr. still has that land he bought & was going to build some tracks. He should concentrate on 1 track…like they did in Iowa, give Nascar a run for their fans. Nascar always says, they have 50 drivers waiting for ever driver that wants to leave??? Maybe so…but what about the fan base the drivers would take with them. And I think the sponsors would follow the drivers…build it and they will come Jr. Open up some of the tracks they have closed…let Nascar slowly fade away.

  109. jnnlcl on
  110. nascar is turning into a sissy sport if they want a safe sport play checkers with some glasses on.nascar really blew the race today whats so great about a bunch of cars bunched up in a single file lineeither let the drivers race or you lost one loyal fan here

  111. Jeanette on
  112. While it was good to see Jr lead some laps and watch him drive some like the old Jr, and even though I’m so happy Ryan was ok and walked away from that wreck, they really need to let the boys race the way it should be done. I dislike the chase, they should just be able to go out there and race the way it used to be. Today was not racing at all. I was so aggrevated the way nascar big wigs are taking away what racing should be. Yes it is safer with all the new equipment. And very few serious driver injury’s happen(which is great) But you can tell it is upsetting the drivers. They have changed it until I barely even see what first drew me to racing years ago. No bump drafting..constrictor plates, seeing daylight between cars, what the heck. That just is going way to far.

  113. Mick on
  114. Make it a 25 lap shot-out and be done with it. Maybe NASCAR could show some newsreels, cartoons, and Three Stooges while we wait. When pit stops are the most interesting part of a 500 mile nationally televised race, there’s a real problem.

  115. Susie on
  116. Nascar suxs with all the rule changes. I watched MLS soccer play offs . It was a lot mre action

  117. Terrie on
  118. Please let the drivers be drivers and let them race. It’s not a race when they follow each other in a single line most of the day. No wonder they wreck when they can race full out cause the don’t know what to do when they have to race each other. The drivers might be more careful if they are use to racing with each other though out the race. Let’s be safe and also lets go racing. That is what the fans pay for. #88 fan. Good job Jr.

  119. Mark on
  120. Quit blaming the empty seats on the economy, the racing sucks and that is why I quit going last year! The racers can’t even come up with nice words to say on the interviews. I haven’t ever heard Mark Martin have a hard time coming up without something nice to say, that is bad! Really Really Bad! Thank god for the football games today. And don’t get me started on the end of the race!

  122. I am happy to see some of the drivers voicing their opinions regarding rules made with such short notice (at the drivers’s meeting). Most are afraid if they say anything, it will go against them. What a disappointment to so many people, especially the ones who have paid such a price for tickets, not to mention all the others watching on TV. The drivers need a spokesperson who is not afraid to tell it like it is. Hooray for Jr. Looked like ole times when he was leading!!I’m sure he will find his way back to racing like he has done in the past. So glad Mark & Newman are ok.

Today wasn’t racing this was follow the leader very boring. The playoff championships are a joke’ correct me if i am wrong, i thought playoffs begins with everyone having 0 points giving the 12 drivers an egual playing field. The point system stinks the 12 drivers points should ge scored separate from 31 drivers who are not in the championship. I been following NASCAR since 1972 these are not championships this is autotheft NASCAR no longer award consistency since J Gordan won the last legitimate championship imaging how many Jeff would have won. ‘The Thrill Are Gone.’

  128. Todays so called race sucked! When will the owners stand up and tell their drivers to park their cars when they have results like today. MAKE NASCAR HEAR YOUR VOICE THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE!!! BEFORE ALL THE TRUE FANS ARE GONE

  130. What do the Talladega race today and a nice picnic in the park have in common? Aside from the noise, you could still have a nice nap. That was the most boring race I have ever seen at Talladega. First, they shrink the plate openings. Then they tell the “kids” to stay off each other in the corner or we’ll give you a time out. Why didn’t they just tell them they could only do 45 MPH, give them all little flags to hold and have a frickin’ parade (with the clown leader Jimmie Johnson out front).

And I took Ryan Newman’s post-wreck interview to mean that NASCAR doesn’t respect (or trust) the drivers, not that the drivers don’t respect each other.

  131. jeff mcgroarty on
  132. IN ONE WORD ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ I MEAN THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE BIGGEST BADDEST RACK IN NASCAR AND THE RACE WAS BORING AND NASCAR WITH THEIR LAST MINUTE RULE CHANGE YOU STILL HAD A BAD WRECK HMM FUNNY HOW THAT IS I THINK NASCAR NEEDS TO LET THE ( RACE CAR DRIVERS ) RACE I MEAN THATS WHAT THEY GET PAID TO DO I THINK THE FUNNIEST COMMENT WAS FROM STEWART ABOUT SOMEONE NEEDING TO TELL HIM A JOKE TO KEEP HIM AWAKE

  133. Carroll on
  134. Was Talladega race exciting? 2 laps the rest was a boring waste of time that almost got 2 drivers killed due to Helton’s(little Hitler) stupid last minute rule change. Mike Helton is destroying the sport. Its time the drivers boycotted a race, and sponsors united to pull their millions of dollars from the sport to force the firing of Helton.

  135. Marilyn on
  136. Well I guess you all have said everything I wanted to comment on. But, I really feel that Nascar is trying to keep the drivers safe, and that is fine, but now we are down to watching an auto parade, not a race. The drivers were afraid they would get a penalty for getting to close to the guy in front of them, what is that about. Nascar wants to see light between the cars on the curve, so not to spin each other out. OK fine, so now what, how boring can it get. So what happens, Ryan and Mark have terrible accidents, and they were trying to obey the rules. Please let the drivers use their own common sense. Nascar has almost ruined racing for most of us fans, and I like the rest of you am just about ready to hang them up. If it was not for Jr. and a few of the other drivers that I love watching, I would give up on Nascar, but I cannot stop supporting the drivers right now. I hope Nascar gets some of these emails sent to them, so they can see how we really feel!!!! As for JJ, be a man, and drive like a race driver, are the points the only thing on your mind, and then you call yourself a CHAMPION??? hiding in the back of the pack??? WHAT???

  138. NASCAR NEEDS TO STOP TELLING THE TEAMS HOW TO DRIVE… THE KNOW HOW!!! THE RACE WAS HORRIBLE… FOLLOW THE LEADER AND THATS IT.. AND LET THEM DRIVE,,,,,,,, PLEASE NASCAR THE CARS ARE SAFE AND THE DRIVERS ARENT STUPID…

  140. i have enjoyed nascar since the 50′s , that is until todays race at talladega! it was a disgrace! i’m glad to see that newman and martin escaped injury however the last minute instructions to the drivers this morning before the race? what’s with that!!!!!!??????? if they were so concerned why not tell the teams on fri before qualifying and lock down of the cars so that teams can redo their setups and give them an equal chance to win !!
as for the 48 oh well, how conveinant that they stayed in the back all day and all of a sudden after the wrecks they advance up from 25 to 6 in 3 laps !!! hummmmmmmmmm???
both wrecks were on the straight ways not in the corners ,so so much for the no bumpdrafting in the corners and now with the newer smaller restrictor plates . we now have more cars bunched up together -=– what were the drivers supposed to do there wasn’t enought space for them to race all bunched up so if they didnt want to draft , where were they going to move to?
Yes, i agree the cot cars are seemly safer and there is always the chance that someday someone may not walk away from the wrecks , lets let the drivers race and trust their jugement i’m sure that none of them want to die and will not take stupid chances and deliberating wreck some one and cause a fatality to themselves and others ! they have been racing all their lives and know what their doing! as far as me going to anymore races ,i’m holding off until i begin to see racing ,not a line of cars just hanging out!
it’s too expensive for the motels who jack up the prices 100% plus and cost of race tickets as well as finding a cheap place to park at daytona , so i guess i’ll be either sitting out the next years races at daytona, pocono, homestead, dover, etc and if this
race is the begining of more boring races i’ll stop watching it on tv.

  142. Bruton Smith,
You reading this? ALL THIS? You might want to stepup if your truely interested in keeping Stock Car Racing alive and well! It’s dying and I mean FAST! Time for you or someone like you to step up and take it back to what it was when Dale Sr. was making laps and giving the FANS a SHOW@!! This was the WORSE race I have ever seen in my 30 years of watching racing on tv or even local short tracks here in Texas. I’m so disgusted with Nascar, I’m not going to the Texas Race to watch another parade!

  143. Stormy on
  144. Well, I got a much needed nap today thanks to Nascar screwing things up. Worse race yet.

  145. racerdon2 on
  146. Well, let me start by saying: THIS RACE WAS THE WORSE TELLADAGA RACE I HAVE EVEN SEEN,NO! THE WORSE RACE I HAVE SEEN ,except a few excitiing insedents, thank GOD nobody got hurt. I was telling the room of racer that hang with each other, we all drive more exciting in freeway traffic through L.A.ca. NO drafting, no bumping,no racing below yellow line, 1/64 th of an inch spoiler higher or lower! people didn’t like I.R.O.C. that was a loser. so why is NASCAR,going back to everyone having the same car? BORING! is there really a differance in the type of car that is running today in NASCAR? No who is to say chevy, ford chrysler, toyota is the best when they all have to run the same airodynamics. Nascar MR>FRANCE you are ruining Nascar!!!!! yes Bill YOU ARE RUINING NASCAR from what it use to be

  147. John on
  148. JJ showed his non champion self today at Talladega Superspeedway. Hung out in the back and didn’t race at all. Just conserned about points and not racing. He needs 3 DNFs the next 3 races. A true champion gets in the mix and races with the rest of the race drivers whether at Daytona, Talladega, or any other race track.

  149. Jean-Guy Proulx on
  150. Nascar destroke thoses engines to 250 CI. and let the guys drive them wide open.

  152. thank u john i could’nt have said it better!

i had a good laugh! but unfortunatly it was at the drivers, teams expense! i cant imagine how they felt today at the drivers meeting and then having to get into their cars and parade around the track this afternoon! they must be really disgusted with all the rules! all they want to do is race!

  153. sharon on
  154. I agree with John Gee 100% and what Ryan Newman went threw today should make Nascar realize that. If they don’t change things Nascar will get the racers to keep on racing. Today was boring and very scarry for Ryan Newman and Mark Martin and other drivers, they new something bad would come out of that new rule today, thats not racing, that is control. Let the drivers race the way they use to. Ryan Newman, I hope you are really ok and not in too much pain.

  158. well Nascar i sure hope that you pay back those tickets that the fans came to see a race. and got a 189mph parade, you advertised a
RACE not PARADE, pay those tickets Back. another t6ing is that we had 6 laps to go when the last flip and a red flag should have been called then NOT 3 laps later any idiot knows that it was going to go red.the there was a accident BEFORE the white flag was taken Nascar shouldd have froze the field and restarted the last 3 laps again, VERY UNFAIR to the fans and the racers some others could have ,sorry France, we call RACING TO THE FINISH, NOT GIVING IT SOME ONE BECAUSE YOU WERE BORED ALSO. NASCAR IS GETTING REALLY FU….;UP

  160. It was the most boring race i have seen in 55yrs and if being a champion racer is following behind the rest of the cars and not racing tells me he’s not a champion. I think nascar made the rule change at the last minute to protect the little boy afraid somebody would touch him no telling what it cost them but i think it cost nascar a lot fans and money in the long run. I for one will not go to another race or watch on t.v. till it gets back to racing like it use to be years ago nascar get a life wake up before it’s too LATE.

  164. I THINK ALL THE DRIVERS SHOULD SHOW NASCAR THERE FRUSTRATION NEXT WEEK AT TEXAS!!!! WHEN THEY ARE GIVE THE COMMAND TO START THERE ENGINES THEY SHOULD ALL IGNORE THE COMMAND AND JUST SIT IN THERE CARS AND DO NOTHING. SINCE NASCAR WONT ALLOW THEM TO DO ANYTHING THAT MAKES RACING EXCITING THEN ALL THE DRIVERS SHOULD STICK TOGETHER AND SHOW THERE FEELINGS ON THIS MATTER. WHAT WILL NASCAR DO THEN PENALIZE ALL THE DRIVERS???

  166. I agree with everyone that commented on this race it was very boring, come on nascar let the guys drive like they use to.Jr. you did great today, glad to see you getting back to the front.Maybe they will seen some of these emails to them, but don’t think it will do any good.So glad that Ryan and Mark are both okay,WAKE UP NASCAR.

  167. Marilyn on
  168. Hey John, I could not have said it better, what a description, I am still laughing thru my tears of anger and sorrow. You know I also have been watching Nascar at least since the 60′s, I was so proud today to have my name on Jr’s car, and was so proud to see him out front like a race driver and champion is supposed to be, not hiding in the back afraid he might get a dent in his #48. And Bev, good idea, I think the guys should get together and park their cars on the track, when they throw the green flag next week in protest. Something has got to wake up Nascar before it is to late. And then there is Ryan, and Mark Martin, they were both in the thick of the race, and I am sure Martin want’s to win the race and championship more than anyone, maybe he should ride around in the back with JJ you think??Makes me sick. Sorry I am very upset with this whole mess. And yes!! Ryan and Mark, hope you are both ok !!!!!!!!!!!

  169. AZomah on
  170. Wasn’t is Dale Sr. that once said “my fans, someone elses fans we’re here to put on a show for the fans.”
And if you didn’t have Ricard Petty’s autograph, it was because you did’t try. NASCAR you folks have really screwd up. JJ is an embarassment to racing, especially when comparing him to the drivers I mentioned above.

They cannot take of the restrictor plates because of the aerodynamics of these vehicles. By taking the plates off accidents like the one Carl Edwards had in the Spring, or Newman had on Sunday would pale in comparison to what could happen if you take the plates off.

Many fans come to see the races because of the accidents, and want to see the BIG ONE and feel cheated if they don’t. What I also find funny is that the drivers complained about driving in a pac at both Talladega and Daytona. So NASCAR listened to the complaints about bump drafting and made a change and the drivers are unhappy.

I honestly think the single file racing was collusion by the drivers to send a message to nascar, and to show their displeasure towards the new rule.

  171. Resa on
  172. I agree with you. I hate the “chase”. It should be whoever has the most points at the end wins the championship. But I am happy my guy, McMurray won a race; it’s about time.

  174. Agree with all the comments made. This was the most boring NASCAR race I’ve seen ever! Didn’t like JJ’s tactics one bit – not the mark of a champion! Happy to see Jr. race well & have a good finish. Hope NASCAR wakes up soon!

  176. Everybody That wrote in most of them were right in the fact that it was not even a race it was a giant parking lot going around the track. I also have been watching NASCAR since Richard Petty was racing, then in 1979 I became an Earnhardt fan, and this is the worst racing we have ever had to watch. I still say they have turned it in to IROC racing and is very boring, NASCAR better do something soon or you will run it into the ground!!!!!!!!!!!!

  178. When a driver askes for no dose, well you tell me? I couldn’t believe the single file parade that we saw so much of the race. Okay NASCAR, you tried something different and it wasn’t all that exciting. I understand that everything can’t always be a hit, so drop it and let’s race!

  179. Jimmie Perkins on
  180. Nascar is on the way out. You might as well give the drivers a joy stick and let them race
each other on video games. the commentator’s
can’t give you a discription of the race because there’s nothing happening but a long line of cars. They try to make it interesting but i love racing not talking. Now Nascar must try to find trash on the track so the cars can be grouped back together which wouldn’t have happened if the drivers and owners were able to race…
Nascar is trying to be like the government, trying to control everything and just like government, screwing it all up…wake up you multi-millionares and lets race agai before you loose evrything. The tracks are now having hard times filling the seats….certainly you can’t wonder why.

When is Nascar going to take their finger out of their ass and listen to the fans and drivers. LEAVE THE RACING ALONE !!!!!!!!! You know it’s bad when drivers need something to “keep them awake”. Sunday’s race was boring as hell, until the end. Thank God Newman didn’t get hurt worse than he did. Nascar officals need to sit their ass in a car for a couple of races and see what it’s like from a driver’s point of view. Like sooo many of my commrades said, If Nascar don’t start listening to the fans, Nascar as we know/knew it will cease to exist.

HE IS A GREAT DRIVER, BUT I’M REALLY SICK OF HOW GREAT HE AND CHAD ARE!! HOW DO THEY THINK THE OTHER DRIVERS FEEL WHEN ALL THE HEAR IS JJ AND CHAD. I THINK THEY ALL OUGHT TO GO ON STRIKE AND SEE HOW HELTON FEELS THEN. SO GLAD RYAN AND MARK ARE OKAY. RYAN HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD IN HIS POST RACE INTERVIEW. HE DOESN’T OFTEN HAVE A NEGATIVE WORD TO SAY. GO 14-30-11-AND 20. DENNY, SORRY YOU WRECKED BECAUSE I THINK YOU HAD TO CAR TO BEAT TODAY AND YOU WERE ACTUALLY RACING. GOOD JOB.

  200. Well, being a seasoned 40+ year Nascar fan I have to congratulate Brian France and Mike Helton for putting on the first ever Talladega Ballet. With all the ridiculous rule changes there was very little racing. Look what Johnson did to win the champoinship, if you can call it that, he just rode around at the end of the pack. That is pathetic for someone earning a Championship trophy. For Helton to make rule changes and he has on a monthly basis, to stop the “Big One” was a joke. There were still two more cars that normal do total flips. Its time for the drivers and team owners to revolt. Lets face it without them there is no Nascar. Its time to get Nascar away from the France family and time to dump the asinine chase (fastest and best driver should win the title) stop with the yellow line rules, remember the great pass through the grass and bring the sport back before its to late to make a come back. Just think race fans now they are going to test the damn COT for use in the Nationwde series. That has be more exciting than the Cup lately.

  208. Nascar should have shortened the race to 25 laps and told the drivers anything goes and saved everyone alot of money. If this keeps up there will be lots of left over tickets for every race next year. As for Dale jr. doing so good there wasn’t a race for him to have to show up for yesterday.

  210. Carolyn The Answer, he will get all that money for nothing for not being Honest. This is the answer to the # 48 , Jimmy was winning all the Races, which he and Chad, plus Jeff Gordon knew that. there was something on the very edge of the motor of the #48 car that made it faster Legal or not. Because Chad is getting Nervous, I noticed that after all the Fans noticed something was going on. Now the truth has came out for the fans to see, the last two weeks Jimmy has lost, #48 wasn`t out front to win to win the race. more than likely they will manage to let him win the Championship. But it won`t be a Honest win. There will be some Fans that won`t agree, But I`ve lived in Daytona and followed the Races for a long time. I was looking forward to the Dega Race, I`m thankful no one got hurt. Really that wasn`t real Racing. Nascar`s Rules yesterday was proving wrong. The Chase is what causes the Bad Wrecks, That should be deleted, Let each Driver race to win the Championship. It`s time to go back to the Basics, Do Away with the Chase before one of the Drivers loses his life.

  222. Well I agree with everyone on the race! I do belive that we need safer cars to protect the drivers but come on, what we don’t need is to watch 43 cars going around and around side by side (DUMB) I don’t like to see the wrecks but a little fender bending is ok. You know racing is about who has the best equiptment and the best driver/team. With everybody having the same thing is really boring. It’s like watching the small kids at the carnival in the little race cars tethered togther, no one being able to pass, just riding around till it stops. How boring ech! With everone being bunched up someone has itchy feet and doin’t care about taking chances, let them run (thats what racing is all about isn’t it). I just want to know what’s going to happen when people STOP going to the tracks and STOP watching on TV? It could happen!

  223. PW on
  224. Number One is that they should remove the word Stock from their name. Number Two someone should start a Stock Car racing Group. Number Three – I think one improvement to the current NASCAR Cup Series would be to eliminate the championship and just let everyone race every week for the money. Everyone would be all in every week and no one would be cruising just to avoid a DNF (ergo point racing). Those are my ideas FWIW.

  225. Jackie from Daytona Beach on
  226. Dale Jr. I was very proud of you at Dega, You did wonderful, I feel every thing is turning around for you. I am very Thankful and I know you are. My name was on your Car, I couldn`t find it but I`m sure it was there.

I look forward to this track and plan on going with my son in the fall next year. Single file racing can be boring and we needed to see more 3-4 wide racing. The drivers were being conservative so they wouldnt be penalized! Come on Nascar, these are good drivers that respect for each other so let them race!

  258. AMEN to Jackie from Daytona about going back to the basics and doing away with the stupid chase. They need to do something about the cars for Daytona and Talladega before someone gets killed. However, I do not agree about the things she said about JJ and Chad. I just think they are that much better than everyone else right now, and JJ is just the best driver out there now. Well at least we will not have to watch any more plate races till Daytona. Maybe they will have come up with a solution by then.

  260. Amen…usually Dega is an “edge of your seat” race, this time it was a “go do something else for half an hour and then check back in and see if there is any actual racing going on” afternoon.

  261. Doowah on
  262. Debbie, I guess that you don’t know anything about CART and IRL or you wouldn’t be talking about someone starting a new raceing association. Check up on that and you will see what will most likely happen.

  264. I thought the race was boring most of the time. It’s a shame a car has to get turned upside down to provide us with something to watch. Not what I like to see. Good to see Jr up front and leading. Jimmy Johnson was a disgrace as a driver, just hanging back and then because he always seems to have all the luck (he must have got Jrs luck too) ends up near the front as usual. It doesn’t seem to matter what he does he ends up in a good position.

I saw on another site that Brad Kesalowski was getting the blame for the last wreck. I heard the announcers say that Brian Vickers was pushing him. I didn’t see a replay so am not sure what happened.

  268. The race was so boring that I fell asleep. I just don’t understand NASCAR’S need to be so restrictive. They are taking the fun and joy out of racing not only for the fans but for the drivers too. I realize the need for safety is a big motivator but at what point do you stop before the sport fades away?

  269. Max on
  270. Does anyone know how to order Jrs. signature car???

  272. Not a bad idea BEV. Can’t hurt anything.

Look at the grandstands, how many seats did you see EMPTY? This race at Talladega along with Daytona are the super speedway big draws for fans. I have noticed ALL year EMPTY seats. That was Never the case before!!! Sure we are in bad times no doubt, but why are the seats not filling up?

I do not think It’s that people can’t afford it. Even in hard times people will save up and treat themselves to something exciting! I have been out of work, Thanksgiving eve will be 1 year. I scraped the $ together to go to the Z-Max Dragway across the street from LMS. I wanted action!!! I didn’t go to the NASCAR races cause the “POWERS” that be have got their greasy hands into the punch bowl so deep that it’s not punch anymore. Just like “too many cooks in the kitchen, spoils the broth”. Just like all the czars, obammas old lady has 26 handlers. Don’t start on that or I will really go off!!!!!!!!!!!

The point is, people are not watching the race because the ACTION has gone away!!! I watch football, click to the race to see where Jr. is. It isn’t so much the “Big One”, as much as the racing, door handle to door handle, their would always be a couple of cars that had more power others who could drive better would still be able to win with skill even if they were not the fastest car.

Before these rules to slow the cars down, and the COT, you were on the edge of your seat, waited till pit stops or a caution to go the “head”, get a beer & a hot dog. The restarts were awesome too.

NASCAR, let these boys lose and let them RUN. This is no different than “affirmative action”, passing someone that could not read or write so they would not suffer emotional trauma. Good grief, Does everything have to be POLITICALY CORRECT?

  273. peterredbike on
  274. well nascar seems to be doing its best to make sure thay loose all their fans , first letting toyota become their favoret manufacturer and now let’s see how many rules we can make to ruin what got us all these fans, well withthe way they are heade it will take about two more seasons befor they join irl with no folloing and lots more empty seats , did any one notice the last two races wioth about half the seats empty

If I had been the drivers I would have put the metal to the pedal, and let Nascar penilize them all, and then see what Nascar would have done. Boring race I have ever seen!

  277. Greg on
  278. As long as NASCAR tried to fix these problem with people that don’t have a clue what is going on it will get no better. I doubt they could drive one of the cars much less tell someone else how to. What a joke. The drivers are the one out there on the track trying to race under rules someone else is making. Come on people get real. Talk to the drivers. Let someone help you that knows what is going on. THE DRIVERS! NASCAR, if you keep going the way you are at this point none of us will have to worry, you won’t be around anyway. That would be a sad day

  279. Helen Johnson on
  280. My dear friends no chase, no plates, lets race

    Helen

ABSOLUTELY THE MOST BORING RACE I’VE EVER WATCHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NASCAR is destroying the sport. Have to say I loved watching JR race again though!!! Between the “reality show” CHASE, and all of the trumped up rules, there’s no racing left. Then, let’s mention the 3 hours of commercials and the 1 hour of “racing”. Thank GOD, I DVR the races and they only take 1-1 1/2 hours to watch!

    GOOOOOOOOOOO JRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!

  281. Marilynn on
  282. I agree with John Gee. Get rid of the Chase and let all 43 cars race for the championship. If the last 10 races only count for the top 12 drivers, why do the rest of the drivers even show up. Like John said, let them race and the guy with the most points at the end of the season is the winner. Tired of seeing Jimmy Johnson win every year. It seems to be geared towards what Jimmy and Chad can do on any given race day. Double file restarts have helped, but not enough.

  283. Andy on
  284. I gave up last year going to the races, just got way too expensive, now with the crap races, don’t even watch them on tv, my just tune in at the end to catch the last few laps other wise forget it NASCAR is dead. As for JR he isn’t going anywhere just another come as you are racer. Don’t see his contract being renewed when its up either. Rode daddy’s name for too long now can’t produce. They will all be looking for real jobs pretty soon.

  285. KHRIS on
  286. Yesterday was not a race it was do what Simon says…how boring!!! I would just about bet if Dale Earndhart was still alive he would have had said hell let us race and he would have…I got up and walked out when Ryan Newman wrecked on a personal note for me I would never miss watching a race or going to a race my first track was Dega-but now for the past couple of years I have become a NFL fan.NASCAR be careful don’t go changing a lot of things you won’t have any fans.

  287. aj on
  288. If nascar does not change,I will not spend another dime on it! That race was terible and nascar will get one of these drivers killed if they keep doing the same old tired 200 mph pack’s it really sux!!I Sure hope that our drivers do not get killed in the great big nascar show that is getting really bad every week!!!!

  289. Dean on
  290. Get rid of the plates, give back the 22 gallon fuel cells a tire that will last 100 laps instead of getting 4 new ones every pit stop and race instead of pit stop getting you to the front.

  291. Betty on
  292. Since the race has to be cut back to “boring” why not just take it out of the whole race setup for 2010 – the cars have to changed so much for safety (and I do want my drivers safe!) but c’monm, they are the best in the world. Either let them drive Talledega or leave it off and race somewhere that is “safer” for the spectators!!!

  293. AZomah on
  294. Not a bad idea. Wonder what would happen if all the fans stayed out in the parking lot? Would anyone with nascar notice?

  295. Patrick Smith on
  296. I have been a fan of NASCAR since the fifties. I well remember Tim and Fonty Flock. This is the first race that I have ever fallen to sleep while trying to watch. The COT is safer car for the drivers, but there is no longer any competition between the crews. They are hamstrung and cannot use their brains to out think and compete with the other teams. NASCAR, give us back our true competition and let the drivers truly compete. I am damn tired of the taxi cab merry-go-round.

  297. Deborah on
  298. I was at the race and Jrs crew chief came on the scanner and ask him how he was doing and Jr said to be honest I am bored. Nascar also wanted to see daylight between the cars when they were in the turns. When are they going to let them go back to racing instead of taking a Sunday drive? Was glad Ryan was not hurt and it was sooooooo good to see Jr up in the front several times also. Most exciting part of race was when Jr lead.

  299. Chris on
  300. Amen Donna, glad to see Jr riding up front, best part of the race!

  301. vicki on
  302. I was just glad to see Dale Jr. make through without getting messed up. i was great to see him lead and have a decent finish. he will get em next season.

  303. Dave on
  304. The powers that be in Nascar, or the morons that are ruining it, which ever way you want to look at them, are ruining the sport. The car of tomorrow is a joke, restrictor plates are a joke. We watched nothing more than a freight train for 180 laps on Sunday. When the end of the race is near and the drivers have to do something, we see 2 cars upside down. Ryan Newman probably would have liked to say more in his post upside down interview, but new a fine would have been forth coming. Well, you cannot fine me Nascar, so I’ll say what Ryan probably wanted to say; with all you’re idiotic tinkering, the sport is really starting to suck!

  305. CWS3 on
  306. During his in-car pre-race interview, I think Junior had it nailed when he said regarding the new drafting rule, “This is like the NFL changing from tackle to flag football”…well said Junior, what is NASCAR thinking??? RacingWin has it right when they say this race was a “long stretch of boredom interrupted occasionally by sheer terror”, I totally agree!!!

  307. Fran on
  308. The dega race was very boring. I always watch the races on TV and go to Ks.. I went and mowed the yard. The races are getting to political and NASCAR thinking about their profits. Before long they won’t have to worry about their dollars. I thought Jr. had a good idea to give them a smaller engine instead of the plate. It just might put racing backinto dega instead of follow the leader. WORST RACE I HAVE WATCHED

  309. Joyce on
  310. Sure does not seem like racing when someone can just ride around in the back all day to keep from getting involved in a “possible” wreck and then go for the front on the last three laps. What would happen if all the drivers used that same theory. I guess that is one way to make sure you win the championship, if he can call that racing.

  311. charlotte on
  312. nascar better do something quick! or they will have no fans! the talladega race was very boring!the only good part was when dale jr was leading!wish dale sr. was still here! he would bring fans back to the races! he had something that noone else has. he knew how to make it exciting for fans! but there’s noone else out there like him,and never will be.so nascar has to come up with their own plan.good luck getting the fans back! go junebug! we love you!

  313. Deborah on
  314. Yes the racing is getting bad but I will watch it as long as Jr is in the race. If something happens that he gets out of the race then I will change my channel.

  315. REGAN on
  316. TALLADEGA IS NOT A GOOD RACE ANYMORE. NASCAR HAS SCREWED IT ALL UP WITH THIS BS COT! ALOT OF EMPMTY SEATS. GET RID OF THE GREEN WHITE CHECKER AND LET THEM PIT FOR TIRES AND GAS THEN LINE THEM UP THE WAY THEY WERE WHEN THE YELLOW CAME OUT AND DO A 10 LAP SHOOTOUT. NOT GOOD FOR THE FANS TO SEE IT END UNDER CAUTION.CAN WE FIRE MIKE HELTON AS WELL? WHEN WILL WE GO BACK TO THE BASICS AND SEE SOME REAL RACING? NASCAR SUCKS RIGHT NOW!

  317. Greg on
  318. Talladega is the new Beltway!! I felt like I was watching rush hour instead of a race. The whole race was anticipating the last 10 laps!! NASCAR needs to go a different direction and bring RACING back to this track. One way of making the cars slow a bit without the plates would be to put an inside curve on the straightaways to make them lift a little. Any change in the shape of the oval track could help slow them a bit naturally.

  319. Doug on
  320. To answer the question, NO it is not exciting. What ever happened to STOCK CAR RACING. You can’t tell the difference between A Ford, Chevy, Dodge, or Toyota. They all look alike, I wish they would go back to driving something that at least looks like a STOCK car and do away with the restrictor plates. Nascar needs to find something different than the R plates. The plate races is just a matter of luck, where you are and if you have a pusher. I got so bored with the DEGA race I raked leaves instead of watching and I HATE raking leaves.

  321. stang on
  322. I think that nascar want jimmy j to win another championship that y they took it easy sunday it seen like it been set up in hell yeah that was a suck ass race dam i going to start watching the nationwide series there new car look a heel alot better the cup cars does

  323. shannon volek on
  324. Do you work for NASCAR??? I believe the drivers want to race and NASCAR is not allowing them to do that with all the restrictions they are putting on them. I also watched the race and usually love Talledaga, but I was so bored with the long train of cars that I too fell asleep. I woke up just to see the end. NASCAR needs to do something, and I don’t have that answer, but what they are doing now is not entertaining to the fans, and the drivers are not happy. Maybe they just need to take Talledaga off the circuit, that would solve all the problems! I don’t want that to happen because like I said I usually like the Dega race, but not this weekend. I would rather see them race somewhere else where they are actually racing then ride around all day like a big train!

  325. Jim on
  326. I agree 100 percent! But youknow nascar will decide WHO wins the “championship”. NASCAR will change the rule to get the “champion” they want!!

  327. Ron on
  328. NASCAR should give all the drivers Prius’s with booster batteries and hard rubber tires so they won’t even have to pit. They can just parade around for 500 miles in their shorts and tee shirts! RACING BULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  329. Jared on
  330. Nascar is taking the racing out of Nascar getting will bored with all of retrictions on the bump draft and the green/white checkered flag. Many of may friends have stopped watching Nascar all together. So depressing.

  332. I agree with Ron

  335. Max on
  336. Andy you must not listen to the announcers. I don’t agree with a lot some of them say. But when Dale Jarrett talks I listen. He said “I don’t ever want to hear another person say Dale Jr. can’t drive a race car, that boy is good”. Dale Jarrett raced with him, he should know…not some recliner driver with nothing better to do than run down drivers, and to say he came in on his Daddys coat tails is shows your ignorance.

  337. Marie on
  338. Didn’t see the entire race as I was out of town visiting, but did see the latter part, including Ryan Newman’s wreck. But, to answer the question, no, it isn’t exciting when they just drive around, following one another, not racing, and especially with some hanging back on purpose just waiting to try to get to the front at the end. No that it definitely not racing. Nationwide racing is much more exciting than Cup. But they’ll be going to a new car and then they’ll get boring too. Z-z-z-z-z-z-z-zm might as well take a snooze.

The race was very boring and I bet their rating took a nose dive mid way through. Single file racing, smaller plates, many people fell asleep or changed the channel on this years dega race.

  340. Nascar sure messed up great racing at a great track. Im finished with nascar i can do with out this boredom.. Mike Helton i used to think he was smart. let the drivers race. control the cars.

  344. Take Mike Helton out of NASCAR, NOW!!!!!!
The people who race for a living are there to RACE! Racing means going fast. I used to love NASCAR, but now i dread to hear the new rules at the start of every race. I pray that no driver, crew member, offical or fan is injured before during of after the race, but the officals are doing their best to take the joy out of racing. LET THEM RACE!!! TAKE MIKE HELTON OUT OF NASCAR!!!!

  345. kevin on
  346. well,I for one certainly hope NASCAR got the message.

  347. shirley on
  348. yes and no….the race is not a race it is whomever is in the lead at the finish line wins…no talent there at all…let me in the car if i am left at the end i could win….if this track requires a restrictor plate to race make the track smaller….and i really hope NO ONE ever gets hurt or worse because of the way nascar has changed so much through the years….the drivers say they don’t like to race these tracks here’s a thought….DON’T…

  349. Angel for Jr 88 on
  350. I would LOVE to see what the idiots would do if the drivers didn’t start their engines at the command. It would be great. I sincerely doubt that ANYONE from NASCAR would even notice that the fans were in the parking lot!!! They are too busy with their head up their asses, they have NO CLUE. And to comment on a few others comments regarding the reason of why there are so many empty seats, I totally agree, it IS NOT the economy by no means. It DEFINITELY is because of the idiots running NASCAR. PLEASE JUST LET THE GUYS RACE LIKE THEY GET PAID TO DO AND LIKE THEY WANT TO DO.

  351. Angel for Jr 88 on
  352. AMEN FOR THAT, MIMIGRAN!!!!

  353. DAVE BALLARD on
  354. VERY BORING. I AGREE WITH MAJORITY OF ABOVE COMMENTS. LET RACERS..RACE. AS NOTED EARLIER, WE ARE AN AVID NASCAR AND INDY FAMILY, GOING BACK TO MY FATHER AND GD’FATHER, BUT NASCAR HAS BECOME BORING IN MANY RESPECTS. NASCAR HAS GREAT RACERS.TURN THEM LOOSE, IF NOT, THINK WE WILL STICK TO INDY.
I AGREE WITH ABOVE COMMENT…. LET’S RACE THE FULL SEASON FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP. IF NASCAR CAN’T DECIDE WHAT TO DO, CALL WASHINGTON!!! JUST KIDDING.

  355. REGAN on
  356. WAS THAT A RACE? WHAT I SAW WAS A VERY FAST PARADE LAP AND THEN A WRECK FEST!!!! YOU GO NASCAR!!!!

lets get back to old school rubbing is racing these are race cars let them race so be it if they go 200plus mhp and bump draft thats what we the fans want to see let them race (they are race cars right)are let the fans bring there cars out and run 80mph and see how you nascar will fill the stands then.

thats right give jra fast race car and he can drive hell slow as they go now teresa dumb ass could drive we love you jr

    hell yea

    lets hope so go jr

i have had teckets to the fall race at dega for years not buying any more until they go back to real racing nascar you need to step back and look at this thing keep the fans in mind are you want have us to pay you your pay checks nsacar you suck big time

  357. Mike mcginnis on
  358. Do you think if Jr. was in the points lead he would be in the back are would do what Sr. would do. Is there anybody willing to sept up. I liked Sr. very much and he was the man was he the only one? Somebody needs to sept up and be the leader. Too much money and none will put there neck out.. Sooo sad… If the drivers won’t do it well I guess it’s just a matter of time and it’s over. The drivers are the ones who have the voice..We the people are not getting anywere with NASCAR….. Somebody save the sport I love. I think they have too much money and just don’t care…. They have there’s…….
