Has Kyle Busch Earned Your Respect?

Does Kyle Busch deserve more respect from NASCAR, it’s fans, and it’s drivers?

Kyle Busch may never have as many fans as Dale Earnhardt Jr or Jeff Gordon. But after his sweep of Bristol this weekend he has earned the respect of a few of them.

“It’s so cool to be here three nights on this weekend,” said Kyle Busch of his sweep at Bristol.

With his victory in the Irwin Tools Night Race Kyle Busch capped off a sweep of all three of this week’s NASCAR National Touring series races at Bristol becoming the first driver in history to do so. He went to Victory Lane in the Camping World Truck Series, the Nationwide Series and the Sprint Cup series.

“It was pretty special,” said Busch. “This team has worked so much through the past few weeks to try to get ourselves back on track. Coming to Bristol you could say, yeah, well, we’re supposed to run well here. But still, it’s cool to be able to put it all together in a complete weekend, with the truck, with the Nationwide car and with the Cup car.”

But with Kyle being Kyle he doesn’t always do things to help his standing with the fans. After winning the Nationwide race Kyle climbed from his car to a chorus of boos raining down on him from the grandstands. In response Kyle wrung his eyes in mock tears just to taunt the booers a little more. But, that is just Kyle.

“I saw it, but I passed it.” Kyle Busch on Keselowski’s car

Brad Keselowski called Kyle Busch “an  ass” during driver introductions prior to the Saturday Night Sprint Cup race and nearly brought the house down. But that would not deter Busch.

When asked about Brad Keselowski’s declaration after the race Busch responded blankly, “who?”

“Brad Keselowski,” the reporter repeated.

“Yeah, I don’t know who you’re talking about,” Busch insisted.

“He drives the No. 12 car,” the reporter said in a bewildered tone.

“I saw it, but I passed it,” Kyle responded with a sly grin.

Still, there were more cheers than boos when Kyle took his victory lap after the race.

“I just come out here to do my job,” said Busch. I do what I’m supposed to do, and to win races is my job and what that entails.  The fans are what drives this sport and what makes us go round and get us here every week. So it’s cool to have them here, and they’re passionate about who they like and who they don’t like.”

Yet what Kyle Busch pulled off is a remarkable feat. It is hard enough just to win a race in any NASCAR series. It is hard enough to win a race at Bristol. Kyle Busch went 3 for 3 in 3 completely different race cars and trucks. One was fielded by his own race shop, and the other 2 by Joe Gibbs Racing. In the truck race Kyle even started from the back of the field to take the win.

He deserves just a little bit of respect for that. Like him or not.

I think he is one of the best right now and once he changes his attitude a little he will be more liked. Send Jimmy spencer down for a little talk with him, it worked for Kurt

  8. Kyle is a very talented driver but that is the only good thing I can say about him.

He is a person who lacks character, has no respect for the sport of racing and very little respect for his fellow drivers. He loves being hated, that is sick. There is something mentally lacking to be that way.

He will do anything to win, to the point of putting someones life in danger.

NASCAR gave him a sweet candy by allowing him to wreck Brad out with out any fine. Kyle proudly admitted it was intentional and NASCAR will do nothing.

When my favorite driver retires I will no longer watch any NASCAR racing.

  12. I know Kyle is a great driver especially when he’s mad but he still acts like a little kid when something doesn’t go his way. I know all of the drivers get mad and complain, that’s not what I’m talking about, what I’m talking about is getting out of the car at the end and storming away like a 5 year old that just got told they can’t have the toy. He did get better this season but it’s almost like starting at the All Star race he went back to his old self. So to me I think he didn’t change, he basically tried to cover it up but then it came back out. Someone said Jimmy Spencer should sit down and have a talk with him, I think Tony Stewart should. I don’t hate Kyle, just he needs an attitude adjustment to actually take things like a man instead of a 5 year old throwing a temper tantrum. When he grows up he’ll get my full respect, he has my respect as a driver but not as a person.

  14. I have always had respect for Kyle Busch. I loved his comments after the first COT race at Bristol , a race he won. Who better to honestly say what he thought of the car? Natuurally any comment from 2nd place or lower can be dismissed as sour grapes. His honesty, his talent and his love of racing are highly respect-worthy. As a Dale Jr fan, his tactics and behavior are silly but rarely discourages my feelings. Spinning or “dumping” a competitor is something I would compare to Clemens throwing at Piazza’s head. If he’s so super-talented, why not truly out race someone? His impatience and immaturity are still standing in the way of him being championship material. Don’t be so urgent, Kyle. You can win a lot and not alienate people.

Most all the drivers have attitudes. But thats what makes them GO. I can’t stand Harvick but there are fans that thnk he is awesome. So I guess we all have our gripes. AWESOME WEEKEND OF RACING

  20. I doubt that Kyle Busch will ever earn my respect. He’s 25 years old and acts 5 years old with all his tantrums. If he had won the three races cleanly I might have seen it as a feat but it was spoiled by his taking out other drivers to gain position He deliberately took out Brad Keselowski but Brad wasn’t the only one although the other might not have been deliberate. Brad is in a position where he can’t retaliate and Kyles future actions could cause Brad to lose the championship. Kyle knows Brad is on probation and can’t do anything about it. So if it happens again and Nascar doesn’t step in who knows what will happen. Anyway Kyle’s action put a blight on his weekend wins.

I was never an Earnhardt fan either, but that man had my respect. Competitors on the track is one thing, Kyle’s actions both on and around the track are childish, mean-spirited, and bad for NASCAR as a whole.

He absolutely has incredible talent behind the wheel, but his character, lack of respect, for his fellow competitors, fans, NASCAR, media, that has gone on unchecked this whole time, means I will never respect him.

I’m not a Hendrick fan either, but even for him, there is more to racing than winning races, Kyle appears to be TOXIC to all those around him, and Rick made the right decision.

I suspect that the Coach has had his talks with Kyle, and someday soon he too will realize that JGR is better off without Kyle.

My dad did not like Dale Earnhardt Sr when he was a live, on the other hand I adored, and admired Dale Earnhardt for everything he stood for on and off the track.
After Dale Earnhardt Sr passed away my dad finally realize what a great man Dale Earnhardt was and what all he did. Kyle Busch does not have Dale Earnhardt’s blood running down his veins, Kyle Busch does on and off the track for people one day people will come to realize Kyle Busch is one big hearted, caring individual too. It is your lost you don’t like him or should I say Jealous of the young man. Yes Sr. got boos at time but NASCAR listened to him and he helped make the sport what it is today. Now TV’s go off everywhere when Kyle is up front or wins, not good for NASCAR, but his day will come, everyone has a good year or two and then they fall off. How many have done it – ten, a hundred, a thousand? Also, as others said, I’d consider it more of an accomplishment if he hadn’t wrecked the driver who was probably going to beat him in the NNS race. I admire Kyle Busch and really enjoy watching him race but he disappoints me at times. For instance, taking poor Brad Keselowski out like he did was entirely all uncalled for and so very wrong. Montoya took Jimmie Johnson out on Sunday and Jimmie said he didn’t think it was intentional………………same hit as Brad to Kyle and Kyle decided to wipe Brad out……….that was evil! I enjoy watching Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski race and if neither is in the race, I will not go or watch it. Cup, I like all the regulars like……..Dale Jr., Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kane, Denny Hamlin and the greatest racer of today, Kyle Busch. Everyone should notice how Kyle Busch has changed. I think it was Rusty Wallace (who only talks about when “he” drove) say on the prerace show that Kyle was a clean driver and he would never have bumped Brad in order to win. Obviously he has been watching different races than the rest of us with a whole other group of drivers. Ask Brian Vickers if he thinks Kyle is a clean racer, Carl Edwards, and just about any other driver out there. They even show highligts of Kyle running into the back end of someone. Now that is clean racing? He never has been and never will be a clean racer. The only way he can win most of the time is to punt someone out of the race. I will be so glad when ESPN’s races are over and we don’t have to listen to Rusty Wallace anymore! Hey Rusty! You don’t drive any more and the cars are totally different today then in “your day”. Coach and JD why are you not calming his smartelecness down, you always sat on Tony Stewart when he said or did something. Get Kyle under control. 130. Kyle Bush is a disgrace to racing, There is nothing he could do now to earn my respect. Nascar should have their A$$ kicked for allowing this piece of S**** to continue racing with all the people he intentionally wrecks and braggs about it after the race. Any company who sponsors Bush I do not buy their products period.

  132. No, it’s more like that sign should say, “Kyle Busch SUCKS, DEAL WITH IT!!” I have always felt this way about him ever since he smashed the guitar in the Nashville Superspeedway Victory Lane a couple of years or so back.

  134. !8 is right up there in every race. I guess when you crash the best cars in the field intentionally the 18 knowing the 99 had a far superior car and did not want Carl there, as he was Saturday, at the end of the race. The first oppurtuinity he got he crashed the 99. Anyone can be up at the top at the end of the race with that strategy. Look at the 24 at the end when as Daryl put it “WAS SHORT TRACK RACING. I am not a 24 fan but that was racing. 24 didn’t wreck him though. Something needs to be done THIS WEEK about the 18.
