Elliott Sadler Replaced by Allmendinger at GEM

Elliott Sadler has been released by Gillett Evernham Motorsports from the No. 19 Sprint Cup Dodge for 2009. Sadler will be replaced by AJ Allmendinger.elliott

Elliott Sadler released by GEM

Allmendinger was hired by GEM to finish the final 5 races in the 2008 season replacing Patrick Carpentier in the No. 10 Dodge. He was able to improve the No. 10 cars performance, though he never scored a top 10 finish in those 5 races.

“They asked AJ to do a job, and he exceeded their expectations,” said Tara Ragan, Allmendinger’s business manager.

I knew that Allmendinger would find a ride — he’s an extremely talented driver. I’m just disappointed that it came at Elliott Sadler’s expense.

  8. If Elliott Sadler does not find a ride for 2009, that will surely be ashame, but if he can’t, I think he would be a great talk show host for Nascar if and when the decide to have their own network.

  20. I really like Elliott Sadler. He is very fan friendly and especially takes time to really “care” about each young person whom he meets. I have had the chance to get his autograph a few times, and he has always been a complete gentleman and a great all around person. I hope that another team has seen the great potential in Elliott and that he gets a great ride for the upcoming seasons. And yes, I’m going through NASCAR withdrawl! LOL

  26. Aw Man!!!! A.J. over Elliott!?! I Ain’t believing this! I really don’t think you made the right move GEM. Yeah I like A.J. But Elliott is an all around better driver. Maybe it wasn’t the Driver there Bud. Maybe it was what ya’ll put under Him.

  28. Elliott should have done better but he was in a Dodge so what else can be said? AJ is hungry and crazy enough so he will probably do better than Elliott. Sometimes people get too comfortable with the things they are doing and don’t do good enough. Maybe this will open up his eyes and he will find that ride somewhere that will bring him back around. Who knows??

  32. AJ only knows how to wreck other drivers. At least Elliott had top 5’s and top 10’s. Can’t say that for AJ. And if AJ drives no. 19, who is planned for no. 10? Just don’t mess with my guy, Kasey. He’s good and doesn’t wreck anyone most of the time. Just put good equipment under him and you’ll see more wins.

  34. I too like both Elliott and A J. Yet I agree with many of the posts above.

I’m more concerned with the ‘retire’s’. OUT!!!
Mark Martin and Bill Elliott. You ‘ran your race’ for years.
In Canada to retire = quit!!!!!!Don’t come back!

Talk about causing accidents then how about Cope, Mr. “Bow” Bush….oh you know the regulars without me continuing.

I think after the new year, by next week, we will begin to hear a lot of bad news.

Any tracks lower the ticket prices???? NOT!!!

  38. Sanders, it seems to me like you don’t watch much Nascar. If you did you would know that Elliot is a Fan Friendly Driver who cares for the underdog. Someone said, maybe it was what he had under him, I agree. Check back to the day when he drove for Yates, what ya say about that. I wish him good luck and to find a ride soon. Some people should keep their Opinion to themselves if they don’t know what they are talking about.

  40. That is bad news…Elliot Sadler is a good driver. I used to think the world of Evernham…met him once…GEM screwed up this time! Did Red Bull buy AJ the ride?

  42. I am disappointed with GEM releasing Elliott. He is a fine fellow but unfortunately he just seemed to be unable to get top finishes? I do not totally blame him, but GEM has to do something to get some wins and Elliott is likely the poor guy paying the price? It’s too bad times are so tough. If it’s possible I believe Elliott will end up in a good position one way or the other. Good Luck Elliott. Bite your tongue & hold your head high. There are better things ahead for you!

  46. I,M A 79 year old NASCAR FAN, HAVING KNOWN THE FOUNDERS ( BIG BILL FRANCE & OTHERS )BACK AS FAR AS 1947. I AM A FAN OF SEVERAL TEAMS, AND SEVERAL DRIVERS TOO: OF COURSE I HAVE MY FAVORITES, BUT IN ALL FAIRNESS TO THE SPORT, HOW-IN-THE-HELL CAN NASCAR DO THE THINGS TEY ARE NOW DOING TO NOT ONLY THE TEAMS, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE FANS!!!
IF THEY DON’T RAIN-IN THEIR GREED FOR THE ALLMIGHTY $$$$, THEY WILL SURELY TAKE A SEVER NOSE DIVE… JUST YESTEDAY I WAS BY THE DAYTONA TRACK, AND IT FILL ME WITH FOND MEMORIES AND BROUGHT TEARS TO MY EYES!

YEP, GEM HAS REALLY SCREWED UP THIS TIME! I FEEL SO SORRY FOR ELLIOT, CAUSE HE IS A FINE DRIVER ( WHO HASN’T HAD THE EQUIPMENT UNDER HIS BUTT TO WIN )>>>I REMEMBER THE YEATES DAYS, AND FEEL SORRY FOR THEM ALSO…

BUT, WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND!!!

  52. Elliot Sadler should have been fired years ago. He can’t drive and he tends to take out “real” drivers everytime he puts himself in the wall. AJ doesn’t have to work hard to race better than Sadler.
