There are several posibilities why it took Sr. this long to win the 500; however in my opion the best drivers to ever in history get behind the wheel of a race car is and always will be David Pearson and Dale Earnhardt Sr. Also, they drove very similar.
Dale Earnhardt who had won SEVEN Champianships had nothing to prove he did it all.When most drivers are not lucky enough to win a champianship Dale won SEVEN. Daytona was the iceing on the cake for him. DALE WAS ONE IN A LIFETIME. Katherine Hayden
it might have taken 20yrs but it was worth it to see the #3 come across that line–to many great drivers have passed davey allison,earnhart,benny parsons and many more–one heck of a race going on in heaven with the great ones up there
I remember watching that race like it was yesterday, I kept waiting for something to go wrong, I paced the floor, I cheered, I yelled, I closed my eyes, I sat the VCR to record because I just didn’t think I could watch. I thank God for that recording, I would give about anything to still be watching Dale create magic on the track. Dale is still and will always be “THE BEST OF THE BEST AND BETTER THAN ALL THE REST”!!! 20 years of trying only made the victory of the Daytona 500 even sweeter. We miss you Dale “FOREVER THE MAN”

The N#1 reason should have been Richard Childress finally got a illegal car with a 1000 horsepower thru inspection!
