I heard on NASCAR NOW today that Mike Helton’s reaction to Jr’s comments was that “Jr. is saying these things because he is having a bad year.” That is a cop-out Mr. Helton. Jr. is not the only driver to be dissatisfied with the COT; he is simply the only one with enough courage to speak out about it. Fans, too, dislike the car Mr. Helton. It’s time you open your eyes and realize that. Racing is and has been boring from the inception of this car. If not for loyalty to Dale Jr., I wouldn’t even watch races any more.

I recall the day that Sr. told nascar they had best take out the seats at Daytona and replace them with cots so peple could sleep. That was over a bad aero package that we never saw again.

I’am tired watching the cup races.It’s follow the leader if you can. That’s not racing in my book.
Any way i follow the Nationwide races now, follow the other 88 car.
There has been some very good racing in the Nationwide series.
It’s a shame the second tier series is better than the cup series. So i agree 100% with JR. believe me he no’s what he is talking about.

Jr. is 100% right. this car has been awful from the statrt and Mr. Helton and all of nascar know this. They are loosing sponsors and fans because of this. I was really looking forward to going to Charlotte in May for the race. Okay, it rained and it sucked, but what racing there was was not that exciting. The double file restarts have helped. You put a COT in front of everyone else with clean air and nobody can catch it. Boring!!! Maybe that’s why Kyle won so many races last year, doesn’t seem to be doing as good this year having to race someone to the finish. I too think Dale is right and some changes need to be made. He is not the only one not running well (Burton, Edwards, Biffle, Truex and alot of the other top drivers. Change needs to be made and soon. From articles I’ve read and some of the comments of drivers that I’ve heard, it doesn’t seem like it would take expensive major changes either.

I think NASCAR is looking more and more like Indy car racing everyday, if not for the decals you could’t tell a Ford from a Chevy or a Dodge much less a Toyota, and I’m sick and tired of hearing about points racing and gas mileage races I used to have regular seats at Bristol ,Charlotte and Michigan, now I wouldn’t go if you gave me the tickets. Glad Jr. had the balls to speak up, I really miss his dad but now that he’s starting to talk like him I think he’s headed in the right direction ! 2/18/2001 The day that Racin’died !

I would sure like to see Helton and the other so-called decision makers drive a race in in the COT. They shouldn’t be making decisions if they don’t have hands-on experience. The COT looks like a big heavy box that is difficult to manuever. I hope all the other drivers come forward and join Jr. Like some of you other people, if Jr. isn’t driving I don’t watch. I’m watching Nationwide more than I did in the past. But what happens when they implement the COT in Nationwide!!! NASCAR is going down hill fast.

As for Mike Helton – - He knows that Jr. has had a lot of bad luck. He is not making waves about the COT just because he is not winning. He knows Jr. is not that type of person. Quite frankly, I believe Jr. has been too nice about the whole thing. He has played the game their way – now it is time to try something better and different. We all know it’s about money but Mr. Helton better wake up fast.

It’s time to change things around and get more people to the track. It’s a way to help the economy.

Jr. is justified in his complaints. I am 70 years old and have been a fan of NASCAR and it’s predecessors since I was a teenager. Junior tells it like it is. The COT doesn’t even look like a car, I thought NASCAR was suppose to be like cars on the street. Have you ever seen a Ford Tauras with 2 doors, I don’t think so. The car is safer but you can also make a car that is safe and it looks and run better than this so called COT. No wonder the attendance is off so bad, they can’t blame it all on the economy, people don’t like this thing and we’re part of them. Like Patrick said, we are proud of Jr., he has the courage to say what he thinks, his dad would be very proud of him, as we fans are very very proud of Junior for who he is and what he stands for and for what he has done. I would like to express my opinions as “food for thought”: Start and Park drivers – have to complete a minimum number of laps to receive any money (unless, according to Nascar, they have a mechanical failure); When qualifying is rained out and drivers are lined up according to points, then they should ‘draw’ for pit stalls; when a driver is on the pole because qualifying is rained out, they should not get points for the ‘pole’ position – they earn that only when they race and have the fastest time. A driver should be eligible for the ‘lucky dog’ only once in a race. JJ was credited for completing 200 laps at PA 500 but actually only completed 197, right? Not fair!

Well I for one am glad that Jr spoke up I just hope that the Nascar officials pay attention to what he is saying. Lets put the racing back into the Nascar Sprint series. We have taken to watching the Nationwide series because it is far more exciting. A great auto race. So don’t let Nascar give them a COT because that will be the end of Nascar all together! There are a lot of drivers out there that are having problems (great drivers Jeff Burton,Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick,Martin Truex Jr.even Greg Biffle, Jamie MCMurry that have always been a big part of the Nascar races. Now all you hear about is what is Kyle doing today how is his car, how many people is he going to force out of the race with his wild driving. Mark Martin is great as well as Jimmy and Jeff but even Jeff Gordon is having major problems ” Why Nascar” Could it be the COT? Car Of Tomorrow? Take a Look Nascar. I’ve been following this conversation between Junior and NASCAR for the past week and I’m sure that Mike Helton is nothing more than a mouthpiece for Brian France. For him to make such a statement that Junior is having a bad year is only half true as there are drivers who were in the chase last year and are in the same siuation as Jr. with NO wins and lower in points also. This has nothing to do with his having a bad year. Both Jeff Gordon and Kurt Busch have complained and agree with Jr. and they are having a great year.

Junior speaks the truth and I’m sure his father taught him well that if you know something is right, then stand up for what you know to be truth.

If NASCAR has half a brain they should listen to the drivers who pay their salaries and make the changes needed to bring back racing as we know it was and can be again. Take off the blinders and listen to the fans as well. We spend our hard earned money to fill up those seats and are tired of watching the cats chase the mouse around the track. Get rid of that piece of junk…..Safe? Yes…..Cookie cutter cars…..Yes.

Brian France needs to trade in his Bentley and drive a COT and see if he could drive it for hours on end and enjoy the ride…….

Dale Sr. & Dale Jr are #1 both. Sr knew racing in and out and he taught Jr the same. Jr you just keep standing up to them they way your Farther did and taught you. Also ask them what NASCAR stands for. What ever happen to the SC(stock car)in it. Those cars all look the same and in no way look like any stock car you buy on the lot or even close to it. Helton and France have always been about the “money”. As a Stock car race fan since the early 60′s I have seen much change since cars were pulled off the showroom and raced. But it is only since the inception of the COT has this motor sport fallen through it’s a_s. It is so easy to fall asleep watching races because of boredom. Jr is totally right, it may be safer but the setup of the car is next to impossible causing the driver to run the cars in a more unsafe manner to compete. What makes me want to puke is the fact that the idoits now want to ruin the Nationwide series with the COT.

I agree with Jr and I’m glad he had the courage to speak out. I’m glad for the safety of the car but with all the cars basically the same the racing isn’t as good as it used to be. Hard to race when the cars are running around the track 5 seconds or more apart.

Also think Nascar needs to let the cup drivers drive in the nationwide races but not content for the trophey. They graduated to cup so let the natonwide full time racers get the trophey!

Jr is 100% right. We don`t go to the Races to watch a Parade, That`s what it`s come to, I don`t like wrecks, I love good racing. The Cot Car needs parked.The Drivers need real Racing Cars.I would not go to the race if Jr wasn`t in there driving. I live here in Daytona Beach, The Best Track and the most important Race of the Season, Nascar give us fans the thrill of being at the race tracks with new Race cars. Listen to Jr and the Drivers that have the guts to speak up. I believe you won`t see all those empty seats.

I’m tired of NASCAR designating all the rules. yes, they are looking for better safety, which if fine of course, but, there has to be a way to get both, safety & better racing. Jr. said it, but then again who else has the guts to stand up to Nascar? This should be a wake up call to every other driver. Jr. Nation stands behind their driver because he has guts and can drive and win if given a true chance. Racing is about who has the best car and can drive that car the best.
Nascar and this cot reminds me of the “we no longer keep score at our kids baseball games, we don’t want to hurt the loosing kids fellings”. That’s life, so times you win and sometimes you loose.
I’ve heard Jr. has lost his ability to race, “NOT”. Jr. has to follow some rather stupid guidelines set up by a bunch of suit wearing men in and a/c’ed room.
Then there is this “drivers must be nice” crap. Back in the day when I raced I did what ever I needed to do to win. If I had t clip you rear bumper to move you, did it. My dad said that you can do one of two things and that was “WIN OR LOOSE”. Then he told me to go out and do which ever I wanted. Since my dad built the best cars for me I felt it was up to me to drive that car to win. If I did that today I’d be fined and suspended, heck, I would of never driven after the first few races each year.
It’s time that Jr. Nation let Nascar know how we feel. Everyone is right, if Jr. Nation isn’t at the tracks every race day it would look like a ghost town for sure.
We’ll see who our “chicken” drivers are now for sure.

Maybe what we need is for Mr. Smith to buy a few more tracks and drop nascar and start REALCAR racing. Maybe the thought or posibility would open some eyes in nascar.
I wonder how long nascar could stay in business if the Hendrick drivers fans didn’t show up on race day?
If things don’t change soon no matter who your favorite driver is you will get sick enough of follow the leader racing and stop watching, and if thats your kind of racing your not a race fan anyway.

My friends & I all used to get together on every Sunday afternoon & the occasional Saturday night shootout to watch NASCAR. Those days are long gone now. We don’t even enjoy the racing anymore. From the COT to identical templates all the way to that huge hunk of crap on the back of the car called the rear wing. You can’t see, you cant drive. I want to know what happened to “Run What You Brung”? I completely understand the concearns NASCAR does have about saftey, but are headed in the wrong direction. The COT is only good if your driving style allows you to be competitive. The driver & the team have very little say so anymore. The cars only look different because of the shape & position of the decals. Carl Edwards proved the car was not the problem when he nearly went through the fence in the tri-oval @ Talladega. The foam padding is great, as well as the double file restart. If you can’t race to the line then the Lucky Dog is perfect. You used to be able to go to your local dealership & drive a car that looked like the one on the track, no matter the make & model. Bring the old car back, make it a little wider for foam padding, & lower the rear bumper a little & let the guys run. No matter what you do, cars will still fly through the air & the sport will always be dangerous. I want my weekend cookout back, but I don’t want to keep waiting til football season.

Ya Mr. Hilton Nascar is like the Federal Government to much clout and not enough brains. It’s guys like you who will put Nascar in the ground because you don’t want to listen to the drivers you want all the control. You don’t drive the car so how do you know what the car needs? I think the drivers know a hell of a lot more than you do as to what the cars need. Until you start listening to the drivers and taking what they have to say to heart Nascar is going to continue to go on the down hill slide until Nascar is no more. You want total control over the car and the crew chiefs have none. When you put the car back into the crew chiefs hands then there might be some better racing. The temp plates are a bunch of crap. You don’t allow any leeway of any kind and it’s a bunch of crap. LISTEN TO THE DRIVERS AND TAKE IT TO HEART AND DO SOMETHING BEFORE YOU DISTROY NASCAR INTIRELY. We can’t all be wrong when we say Racing has become boring. I for one have to agree with Jr. and Kyle when he says the COT car sucks.

Mr. Helton I have had season tickets to Texas Moter Soeedway for the last 8 years and since the COT the races are boring. We are thinking about spending our money somewhere else. Something has to be done. I understand that the car is safer for the drivers and that is great but we (the fans) pay the bills. ie. sponsers. Let’s not forget where NASCAR started. There were not any imports. It was all AMERICAN musell. The men and women we wanted to see race were driving the cars we could go and buy. I havent seen a COT on a showroom yet.

I love Jr. and will stand by him through all, and I hope the drivers stand by him too! We know Jr. Nation will, and all of Nascar fans will probably too!

I wish NASCAR would listen to the drivers and especially Dale, Jr. Who knows better than the drivers that have to “herd” the cars. What happened to the races – did they go out with the No. 3? Dale,Sr. is watching from up above and he is telling his son what needs to be done. Dale, Jr. is listening, he is a smart guy, knows his stuff. Like others, I am a 100% fan of Dale, Jr., and I watch the races for that reason. Keep on doing your best Dale, Jr. All the other guys deserve to be noticed,too. They all put their lives on the line to race and put on a good race for the fans, let’s be fair to all of them NASCAR!! I am and always will be a Dale, Jr. fan.

Not watching racing like before the COT came into beeing. Its not at all the same as before. I couuld write a book about all the falts, like way too many commercials interruptions, showing only front runners first 5-10 most of the time. Jr. complaint’s are right; The COT is not for stockcar racing, it’s NASCAR’S racing car where they can controlall the races and “winners”. Come on NASCAR do away with the COT.

THings got to change, as for when i watch a race on tv, its so boreing i fall to sleep in my recliner, them cars of tommorow are pure junk, i would not take one if it was given to me,
if they dont listen to dale jr soon, they might as well park all the race cars and close the tracks,
i only wish i could attend a race, but i would not be able to sit that long, as i would probly fall to sleep in the stands, i am in a wheel chair and would need to sit in a special place to see the race, but as it goes, whats the use of going, the only cars that are running good are the number 18 and number 20, none of the other cars can run with them.
