Why does Teresa want to sell now?

A little over a year ago Tony Stewart said that “If Dale Earnhardt Jr leaves DEI the place will be nothing more than a museum.” Now it seems that Teresa Earnhardt may have to sell DEI to avoid that fate.

According to Sirius Radio’s Dave Moody – a respected MRN announcer who calls the Sprint Cup races — Teresa is looking for a buyer, or at the very least an investor for the family business.

If Teresa really wanted to sell why didn’t she do it when she had a willing buyer? Dale Jr was willing to invest his own money in 51% percent of the company last year.

DEI has gone downhill fast since losing NASCAR’s most popular driver to Hendrick Motorsports. It looks like Martin Truex Jr is ready to walk out the door, taking his Bass Pro Shops sponsorship with him. Mark Martin is due to leave at the end of this year to head to Hendrick with Junior, and the Army sponsorship is not locked in for next year, either.

That leaves Paul Menard, Aric Almirola and Regan Smith to carry the flag for DEI. Menards sponsor seems to be locked in, but Almirola has been driving the Army car. The company is searching for a sponsor for the No. 01 driven Smith, and has indicated that the car may be shut down is sponsorship isn’t found.

Does Dale Jr still have an interest in buying DEI? I don’t know, but I hope the price has dropped since his last offer was declined.

What do you think will happen to DEI?
