In April 2006 Dale Earnhardt Jr
returned the famous black paint scheme his father made
famous to competition at Talladega.
Although the car carried the No. 8,
it looked identical to the No. 3 that Dale Earnhardt won
7 championships with.
The special paint scheme was in
honor of what would have been Earnhardt, Sr’s 55th
birthday, and was also the weekend the Intimidator was
inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame
at Talladega.
"I got pretty excited when I saw
the car," Earnhardt Jr. said. "I think it looks good.
It'll be a lot of fun to be behind the wheel. I hope the
fans will appreciate it."
"It would have been a big deal to
my dad," Earnhardt Jr. said. "That's a great shrine they
have there. It's one of the biggest honors in the sport.
I'll be one of the first ones through the gate that
night."
The special paint scheme has been
released to collectors as a limited edition diecast, and
is seeing very high demand.
