It looks like the
Texas Motor
Speedway billboards featuring Dale Earnhardt Jr are
coming down. It seems that Kelley Earnhardt Elledge had
a discussion with Eddie Gossage, the President of TMS,
and the speedway agreed to change the Dale Jr signs.
The
new billboards will still feature Earnhardt Jr – but
will read “Reason #88: New Car Smell,” instead of
“Reason #88: Step-mom.”
The billboards featuring Tony
Stewart, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon will remain
unchanged.
At least the signs got some
attention, and likely sold more than a few tickets for
Texas Motor Speedway.
Since Dale Earnhardt Jr announced
that he was leaving his stepmother’s company to drive
for Hendrick Motorsports starting in 2008 there has been
much public criticism of Teresa Earnhardt. First because
she wouldn’t give Junior 51% ownership in DEI, and later
when she refused to give up Dale Jr’s No. 8.
It looks like this billboard was
the equivalent of throwing gasoline on a campfire – it
stirred up the controversy all over again.
There are also some intriguing
billboards featuring
Tony Stewart ,
Jimmie Johnson and
Jeff Gordon.
Those aren't set to change.
You can’t blame the Earnhardt’s for
wanting to move on. Maybe it’s time to put all this
behind us and move on – at least until the next time.
You never know what will come up next.
