A while back we asked you the question “Why Are You a NASCAR Fan?” That post has been one of the most popular articles here on RacingWin – generating over 140 responses so far.

It proves just how passionate you NASCAR fans are about your sport, whether you’ve been a fan for 50 years or you just got into NASCAR this year.

Here’s what some of you had to say:

“I am 48 years old and have been a fan for 42 years, mostly because my dad and grandfather were fans. We used to listen to the races on the radio every Sunday.”  ~ Tim

“Back in the late 50’s my daddy took me to a race at Asheville-Weaverville Speedway, I was in high school. I have loved racing ever since.” ~ Betty

“I became a NASCAR fan when I married my wonderful husband 24 years ago and we both enjoy all the excitement, we also love the dedication the drivers show to the sport and us fans.” ~ Fannie

“I have watched NASCAR since the 70’s and will keep watching till I die. I cheered for Dale Sr. and now cheer for Dale Jr.” ~ Ray

“My boyfriend got me hooked on NASCAR. He was watching a race on TV and I thought I would watch it with him.” ~ Kim

  2. YES I AM A NASCAR FAN BUT I WILL HAVE TO SAY THAT MY INTREST IS SLOWLY GOING AWAY. THE COST OF GOING TO THE RACES HAS GOTTEN WAY OUT OF HAND. THE RACING IS NO LONGER AS EXCITING WITH WITH THIS NEW CAR. YOU CANT RUB OR LEAN AND YOU HAD BETTER NOT BUMP ANYONE. IT IS REALLY KINDA BORING. AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE I HAVE A SPEEDWAY CLUB MEMBERSHIP AT LOWES AND HAVE GONE TO BOTH RACES THERE FOR THE LAST 12 OR SO YEARS UNTILL THIS YEAR. I HAVE NOT GONE AT ALL.AND WONT UNTILL SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT THE FLEECING OF THE FANS. I REALLY DONT EVEN BREAK MY NECK TO WATCH IT ON TV LIKE BEFORE. ONLY THE LAST 30 OR SO LAPS. I WOULD RATHER GO TO THE LOCAL TRACKS WHERE THEY ARE ALLOWED TO RACE. I KNOW THAT NASCAR AINT MISSED MY MONEY HOWEVER IF THEY DONT DO SOMETHING TO GET THE FANS BACK THEY WILL START TO MISS US ALL.WHEN I DO WATCH IT ON TV I SEE ALOT OF EMPTY SEATS.JUST A THOUGHT NASCAR BUT MAYBE YOU COULD DO SOMETHING FOR THE FANS FOR A CHANGE AND NOT WORRY SO MUCH ABOUT COUNTING YOUR MONEY. I WILL BET YOU THAT IF YOU MAKE IT AFFORDABLE FOR THE AVERAGE FAN YOUR SEATS WILL BE FULL AGAIN. I MEAN FROM THE TICKET PRICES TO THE FOOD TO THE PARKING AND EVEN THE MOTELS ON WHAT THE CHARGE AND PLEASE DONT TELL ME THAT NASCAR DOESNT PULL ANY WEIGHT ON WHAT MOTELS CHARGE. THEY CAN AND SHOULD!

  4. Regan is right, things have gotten out of hand, why should I pay $129 a night (with a 3 night minimum)to go see a race when I can stay at the same hotel on a off racing weekend for $79 ? With the cost of tickets, food and hotel a weekend for 2 runs $700 to $800. I went to the Coca Cola 600 for 8 years before I wised up and bought a 57 inch HD, now if I want to watch the race in my Fruit of the Looms there is no problem, and I don’t have to drive 16 hours round trip. The only thing I miss is the Pre-Memorial Show,, and that was always awesome,,, I still go down once a year to RCR, Childress Vineyards, DEI and JRM but I am spending $79 a night and having a good time..

I had the race on my car radio when Richard Brickhouse won Talledega. After that I became more and more interested, cheering for Harry Gant, Dale, Sr. and now Dale, Jr. I’ve been goingto Darlington every year, but this was the last year. Races have gotten boring and motel rooms are ridiculously high. I can now sit in the comfort of my living room and sleep through most of the race.

  6. I became a fan of racing when the old PEACH BOWL was in Atlanta, T.C. Hunt, Billy Leach, Jack Jackson and them. It then started at Atlanta International Raceway, which is now Atlanta Motor Speedway. My husband use to work the resque squad and I got to meet Darrell Waltrip when he first started racing, and lot of the others, including Bobby Allison, Dale,Sr. several times, it was always fun and I’ll never forget how kind and nice Dale, Sr. was. We use to go every weekend all over the southeast to races, Darling, Charlotte, Talladega, Nashville, Bristol and etc. Now we usually go to Vegas to that race and sometimes Atlanta and Bristol but that’s about it. Things have gotten so expensive it’s hard to do it. We watch each and every week both the Nationwide and Cup races and sometimes the truck race. We alaways cheer for the Hendrick cars, especially Jr. and Tony Stewart too, my husband likes Kyle for his doing but I don’t, I’ve about hushed him up and he doesn’t say much about Kyle anymore. Just hope Hendrick’s organization gets Jr. straighten out, our friends and us think Jr. will come out of the stable strong in 2010, we hope so. Love that Junior!!!!!

  8. My sons have been Nascar fans for quite some time and I would, upon request, tape races for them when they were too busy to watch. I would tune into the race, but was not real interested. Then in 2005 I had the opportunity to attend the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte and thought, why not. I figured it would be so boring to watch cars go around and around for several hours, but I figured I could go shopping if it got that bad. When I got to the track it was so exciting. It’s hard to describe the feeling of actually being at a race, with the noise, crowds, smells, wrecks and total excitement. I have been totally hooked since then. I went back to Charlotte in 2006 for the All-Star Race and the Coke 600. I watch on TV now, but I plan my weekend around Nascar. I’m 71 and retired now and racing is the reason I love weekends. I’m a Tony Stewart fan.

  12. Love NASCAR but the cost has gotten out of control. Been to LAS and ONT but have to enjoy races on TV cause you’all have jacked the prices out of reach. Have a lovely Motor Home but the 3 day parking cost is beyond my $50k retirement income. Look around and check out the empty seats………..

I started watching racing in ’88 and seen that black #3 and picked him because it was black and #3 and a Chevy of course he was and always will be the GREAT AS DRIVER AND I REALLY MISS HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do not like racing as much now I DO NOT LIKE THE COT’s It is suppose to me Chevy’s, Ford’s and etc but now they are all a like. I go to the Texas race both of them to smell and hear the engines. I now go for Tony (Glad he back in a Chevy),Jimmie, and Mark I hope one of them win this year. Jr needs to make up with his step mother and get back to DEI and win a championship in the number 8 instead of the 88. GO TONY JIMMIE MARK

  18. Live in Wy. don’t get to races. Years ago raced on a local track. Haved watched races on TV since they started putting them on. “Talking about maybe four good races a year”. I’m still watching but the next time somebody tells a racer to back off. just because he “or she” isn’t a big boy in the chase it will be time to start rethinking my weekends. A RACER IS OUT THERE TO RACE. Does France own the franchise or the owners and the drivers. The drivers ought to get toghether and tell him who is raceing and let him know who should make the “RULES”. Like raceing but not when one man says who is going to win. Thanks for hearing me out.

  20. i’m losing interrest in the races, to long and getting to be borring. if they are going to race the last 50 laps, lets have 50 lap races. not fuel , pit stops and all this high teck junk. why does drivers like the dirt tracks and short races? real racing and drivers who can drive, not just left left turn for most of the day.

  26. When my wife and I started watching NASCAR races, we noticed the anger between drivers, just to see the anger replaced by concern fro each other when the BIG ONE come along and bites some one on the a… . I see in no other sport where the competition may be so willing to share ones helmet as a driver goes by and is concerned about the same driver at the next race when an accident puts that same guy in a hurting accident.
You ask why I like NASCAR, no words express why.
