How does Dale Earnhardt Jr feel about heading to Talladega for the AMP Energy 500?

“Having your sponsor headline the race does add a little pressure because they’re anticipating for you to do well,” said Earnhardt. “It adds a little pressure. Every time people add pressure it always helps me. It’s good for me — people pushing me. It motivates a little bit.”

Junior will be driving a car with a special AMP Energy paint scheme. 70,000 fans signed up for a special AMP promotion, and they will all have their manes on the car. That’s right - 70,000 names on the No. 88 this weekend.

What more could Jr Nation fans in Alabama want - besides a little gasoline. The Birmingham News reports that some gas stations, especially those east of Talladega heading into Anniston and on onto Atlanta are short on gas. I hope everyone gets to the race and back okay. Be sure and get gas every chance you get.

Dale Jr said he has seen his share of gas shortages at home in North Carolina. “It’s been pretty bad in Mooresville. I think the average is five stations before you find gas,” Dale Jr said. Let’s just hope he doesn’t have that much trouble finding gas on Sunday.

So what makes Dale Jr so good at restrictor plate racing? “My dad was a real good plate racer. So I loved going to the plate tracks to watch and to be a part of his success,” said Junior.” It’s about the guy who’s making the right moves and teaming up with the right team.”

Tony Eury Jr knows why Dale Jr is so good at Talladega. “He’s very smart as far as anticipating things happening,” said Eury. “He knows where the momentum is going just because of the other drivers’ reactions. It’s a pleasure to watch him race because he’s probably one of the best out there.”

What’s the key to winning at Talladega? “Well, the most important thing is coming out of that last pit stop, you need to be in the lead,” said Dale Jr. “If not, you need to find yourself into the top two or three in that first lap after the restart. It becomes nearly impossible to breach into that top five that late in the race. So you need to be there coming off of pit road for that final restart. That’s one of the most important things.”
