44 Reasons For Honda To Come To NASCAR

Honda has a powerful force in NASCAR despite never turning a lap in a race.

44 Honda dealerships in the United States are owned by NASCAR team owners, speedway owners and former drivers.

Honda has always been very sharp when it comes to automotive marketing.

Bruton Smith’s Sonic Automotive owns 15 Honda dealerships. Bruton is the Chairman and CEO of Speedway Motorsports which owns 7 NASCAR tracks including Lowes Motor Speedway, Texas, Bristol, Atlanta, Infineon, Las Vegas, and New Hampshire. They also own PRN Radio which airs the races on radio.

Roger Penske’s dealership group, Penske Automotive, owns 17 US Honda dealerships. Penske owns Penske Racing South which fields the No. 12, No. 2, and No. 77 in the Sprint Cup series.

Hendrick Automotive Group, headed by Rick Hendrick, owns 8 Honda dealerships. Hendrick Motorsports fields 4 cars in Sprint Cup including those driven by Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earhnardt, Jr.

There are also 3 former NASCAR drivers – with 4 championships between them – who are Honda dealers. Here’s the list. Is one of them near you?

  2. If the Honda is assembled and sold in the US it should be allowed to run in NASCAR and do away with the NASCAR brand COT cars..we talked about that happening back in the 60’s where the France family would pull something like the COT car where they mandate a identical car for each team with the only difference be the decals and they did it. Doing away with COT would be ideal if the manufacturer entry is also sold in the show room..that too is something that went away long ago.. I am still waiting for the two door Taurus! And the manufacturers also should have to run a front wheel drive if they don’t produce a rear wheel drive..and that would remove the restrictor plates..and make racing fun to watch again.

  4. Tom,

If Honda comes to NASCAR it will be a race car like all the rest.

The current car isn’t going anywhere. They’re not going to run front wheel drive, and they’re not doing away with restrictor plates.

  6. You guy’s just are not any fun at all.
    Check this out.Same car’s
First– 30 car field (1-1/2 mile tracks)
    Second–3 heats-10 car’s each-100 miles each
    (Quick fix anything except engine
    with-in 20 min after heat)
    Third–No restrictor plates.
Last—Top 6 cars each heat for 125 miles

This would be a better Race, Safer,Faster, and without the big one.
    AND BRING THE HONDA’S ON

  10. I was a Honda dealer for 50 years and if Honda decides to get in NASCAR they will kick everyones butt like they have done in everything else. Rear wheel drive is no problem. First let them market there hydrogen car. How about a hybrid and hydrogen car race sincerely Tommy Wages

  14. Yeah! Let Honda in! Let Nissan in! Let Audi in! Let Mercedes in! Let BMW in! Let Ferrari in!
    Shucks let em all in!
Get rid of Ford and GM and Dodge, they’re bad examples for our kids anyway.
Add a bunch of drivers with foreign accents.
Whoa! Wait a minute. That’s not NASCAR.

NASCAR crap’s been goin on so long now you can hardly recognize it as NASCAR anyway.

SCRAP THE WHOLE DEAL AND START OVER!

  20. well what started off as a sport evenly matched between chevy, ford, dodge and pontiac then we let the “interloopers” in with toyota which might i say has performed fairly well but you start bringing in all the rest well that’s not what the guys like Earnhart,Waltrup, the Allison brothers and son,Parsons,Yarbrough and the rest of the great drivers had in mind-so let’s get back to the basics and just race–now that’s fun

  24. I think Nascar has ruined the sport, granted the cars are much safer, but the cars are all alike except for the decals. They need to come off the show room floor with allowable modifications to the motors, exhaust and suspension like the old days. Chevy,Pontiac,Buick,Ford. Like they used to say, what wins on Sunday, sells on Monday. Muscle cars are making a come back, let them go racing. They can put the new safety devices in them, just keep Nascar with their gear rules and the such out of it. Let’s see the Cubic Inch back on the hoods again. When Dodge came out with the big wing on the back of their cars and the drivers said the cars would straighten themselves out, Nascar outlawed it, why? The way Nascar has it now, cars get bunched up, they can’t pass unless someone goes with them and you can almost always expect the “big one” as they call it where maybe 15 or so cars may be collected in one wreck. Some people may enjoy watching wrecks like that, but I enjoy watching good racing and jockeying for position, I just enjoy watching racing.

It’s people like you who are sinking our economy further. Please don’t let honda into nascar. Only american cars for american races. Toyota should go home as well.

  28. If you watched the congressional testimony of the big 3 last year, you would realize that the US auto industry has dug a huge pit for themselves that they cannot climb out of. Go ahead and call ‘em “Japs” and call their superior cars “rice burners” – everyone else will eventually be calling you “losers” and perhaps “Morons” when Nascar becomes a big joke because it has nothing to offer the country other than fake patriotism. By then you have lost your jobs and won’t be able to find parts for your American jalopies. Honda makes better engines and that’s a fact. Learn to work that or become obsolete.

  32. Should Honda be in Nascar? Take a look at the % of the cars where they are built , It looks like Honda is more American then Chevy or Ford. And it only takes a 5lb bag of rice to complete a race because they get terific gas mileage
